Hi Lester - Wow, how lucky my ears were to hear the sounds your night greets you with. I grew up with that as a child, but have forgotten how interesting it can be to stand out in nature at night and discover the many sounds of nature's ‘second shifters,’ when they arrive at work. Raccoons and owls call back and forth to their young. Crickets and insects take over where the daytime Robins and songbirds leave off. On evenings, ponds are filled with the deep and loud calls of spring croakers looking for a mate and hidden within the dark night, are tiny peepers, who look out from their hiding places to sing their nighttime songs. I didn’t realize just how much I missed the lovely and yes, loud too, that night sounds can be...Thank you for reminding me....☺️💕

What a difference a year makes. Last year(later in the year) you were pumping water into the lake. Now you have so much rain….you are having to pump water out of the lake because it’s been raining so much! And on top of that you have had so much rain that your damn his breaking down worse. But even after all of this and what could happen with pond(hopefully not) Do you not just feel blessed beyond measure because you have two other properties beside ISS. You and Jami were able to help all the family members and members and get your long horns situated before that and now the horses moved before the dam can possible be replaced. We have to count our blessings everyday!! I guarantee if we are serving Our Lord and His will be done and not our will… blessings after blessings! We serve an Amazing God! I love those big old birds.....they look so dumb sometimes though. I'm so glad the pigs have had such a good move! That is great for your soil...loosens the clay....add some compost and smooth it back out with your tractor....take a rake and make some grooves, throw out grass seed and it will shoot up.

You may say it's loud at night, but that is music to my ears. I literally go to sleep almost every night to that sound. I have a little alarm clock that has that feature, and I turn it on, and I'm not lying, probably within 15 minutes, I'm out like a light. Thanks for sharing. I love that sound and I dont liive in the country. I grew up in WV where we had woods surrounding us in several places that we lived and I would go to sleep hearing that sound......at the time we didnt have AC ( my dad is a retired preacher so we moved alot). I now live in FL and hear that sound after it rains and it's so comforting to hear.
i love Lester and Trudy being reunited! Also that is exactly how Louisiana sounds you don't even need to go way down south... Louisiana is loud - it took me for ever to sleep with those dang tree frog but when I turned them in for sirens all hours of the night in Ny I missed those dang frogs!

I LOVE the sounds of frogs chirping at night. It's the sounds of summer. We have that here in Washington state. It also is a sign of a healthy Ecosystem. When it's unhealthy the frogs dying off is the first sign.

You need to have a concrete steps put in at the ends so the water will drain off from your pond spillway down to the driveway , as long as the water cannot carry the dirt away! Glad you are alright!
Just a suggestion for the spillway. You might try planting a deep rooted grass on the backside. That will help with erosion. Also bigger stone or rip rap as we call it will help from washing away. Lester my paws property sounds like that. In outback bush Queensland, Australia. Then it goes dead silent when the thunderstorms start. My uncles have to drive the over 180 head of cattle all over his station. Hundreds of kilometres. Then camp out with the horses and cattle. To keep them safe.
You do not need any pump, just let gravity do the work A siphon is a hose or pipe that can move liquid from a reservoir via a higher point into a lower . The assumption is that the higher part of the pipe is already filled with liquid. The normal way to start a siphon is to suck on the bottom end of the siphon. An alternative way to start, if you do not want to suck in the liquid, is to fill the entire hose with (another) liquid first. Just search it here on YT, there are plenty instructions on how to do it.

One summer, I was camping near Mammoth Cave in Kentucky. The first night it stormed and a tornado went over. You could hear all the insects and frogs and every time there was a lightning strike and thunder they would get deadly quiet. Then the noise would come back just as loud as it had been before. To me those sounds are relaxing.
If you know any construction workers that builds highways and bridges, and knows how to lay the concrete under the bridge and on the sides of the bridge, maybe they could help you or give you ideas about the spill well. I thought you said that Uncle Dan works on the roads. Maybe he could lead you in the right direction. Just a thought I had. So happy to see the pigs being pigs. They are supposed to be with y'all.

I love those big old birds.....they look so dumb sometimes though.
I'm so glad the pigs have had such a good move! That is great for your soil...loosens the clay....add some compost and smooth it back out with your tractor....take a rake and make some grooves, throw out grass seed and it will shoot up.
I bet the horses will be glad to be away from the swamp noises. I know I would!😮

You may say it's loud at night, but that is music to my ears. I literally go to sleep almost every night to that sound. I have a little alarm clock that has that feature, and I turn it on, and I'm not lying, probably within 15 minutes, I'm out like a light.

I love that sound and I dont liive in the country. I grew up in WV where we had woods surrounding us in several places that we lived and I would go to sleep hearing that sound......at the time we didnt have AC ( my dad is a retired preacher so we moved alot). I now live in FL and hear that sound after it rains and it's so comforting to hear.

i love Lester and Trudy being reunited! Also that is exactly how Louisiana sounds you don't even need to go way down south... Louisiana is loud - it took me for ever to sleep with those dang tree frog but when I turned them in for sirens all hours of the night in Ny I missed those dang frogs!

I LOVE the sounds of frogs chirping at night. It's the sounds of summer. We have that here in Washington state. It also is a sign of a healthy Ecosystem. When it's unhealthy the frogs dying off is the first sign.
There having a root a Palosa lol , I love that sound I was born in Louisiana move to Texas when I was a baby , we hear the night creatures here in the woods in Texas also

You need to have a concrete steps put in at the ends so the water will drain off from your pond spillway down to the driveway , as long as the water cannot carry the dirt away! Glad you are alright!

Just a suggestion for the spillway. You might try planting a deep rooted grass on the backside. That will help with erosion. Also bigger stone or rip rap as we call it will help from washing away. Lester my paws property sounds like that. In outback bush Queensland, Australia. Then it goes dead silent when the thunderstorms start. My uncles have to drive the over 180 head of cattle all over his station. Hundreds of kilometres. Then camp out with the horses and cattle. To keep them safe.
You do not need any pump, just let gravity do the work A siphon is a hose or pipe that can move liquid from a reservoir via a higher point into a lower . The assumption is that the higher part of the pipe is already filled with liquid. The normal way to start a siphon is to suck on the bottom end of the siphon. An alternative way to start, if you do not want to suck in the liquid, is to fill the entire hose with (another) liquid first. Just search it here on YT, there are plenty instructions on how to do it.

One summer, I was camping near Mammoth Cave in Kentucky. The first night it stormed and a tornado went over. You could hear all the insects and frogs and every time there was a lightning strike and thunder they would get deadly quiet. Then the noise would come back just as loud as it had been before. To me those sounds are relaxing.

If you know any construction workers that builds highways and bridges, and knows how to lay the concrete under the bridge and on the sides of the bridge, maybe they could help you or give you ideas about the spill well. I thought you said that Uncle Dan works on the roads. Maybe he could lead you in the right direction. Just a thought I had. So happy to see the pigs being pigs. They are supposed to be with y'all.
