I only started watching your videos a couple days ago, but it's amazing how much they have helped me. I've started to accept myself more. That talk with you and your mom about how to deal with parents that don't accept you was super helpful even though they don't technically know yet, some things my family says are pretty disrespectful, and scary, but even just hearing that I might now have to completely cut them out was really good for me. Honestly thanks for what you've done for me and I will definitely be here to watch more!

I really loved the comment you made at around 7 minutes-ish about how to not give up on your parents (unless you're forced to) because my family has always been super accepting but every once in a while they'll make a comment that I don't like and they don't do it on purpose to be mean, they typically just don't understand. Like the other day my sister made a comment about how adopted children aren't your "real kids" and I got really upset because I plan to adopt most of our kids. But I tried to just explain to them why it upset me instead of getting all angry and storming off and assuming they could never understand, and I think that's important in order to have a good relationship with family, or anyone really.
A few years back my parents flipped out and almost seemed like they legit hated me when they found out I was attracted to girls. I got scared and quickly tried to convince them I was "straight" because they ended up grounding me and completely cutting me off from any girls even if they were my bestfriends that my parents have known forever. I think in a year or so I will try to talk to them about it again...considering I'll be almost 18 and graduating. I've known for sure I've liked girls since 5th grade, so them saying the whole "it's a phase" thing isn't going to work. It's just really hard living a lie and pretending to like guys and to be this ideal daughter they want.

this is amazing cammie oh my gosh I'm not even gay but my brother is and even if I'm not this is still so necessary for people to hear not just the LGBT community but EVERYONE including most parents who have or might have gay kids to know how to deal with it better cause what you said is SO accurate, most of them blame other people's problems with it on their own kids and they don't realize how much that affects them

You are such an inspiration to me. I recently came out to my parents because I am gay and they didn't react exactly how I had hoped they would. It is really hard for them to accept and they don't really believe me. It has made me very sad. Hearing what you and your mom have said makes me really hopeful. And it is so true what your mom said about how your family is always who your blood related to. Thank you!

When I came out to my mum she struggled for a moment - telling her 'I'm still the same daughter you know and love, you just know a bit more about me now' really bridged that gap for my mum. Sometimes I think the gay kid needs to be the one to show their parents it's ok. Because we've already accepted it within ourselves - you can help your parents understand it too :)
