    I can't tell you how thrilled I am to have finally found a booktuber that reviews historical fiction and thoroughly and eloquently at that ♥. I've got two recommendations for you. They're not recent titles but worth your time, I promise: The Coffin Path by Katherine Clements and The Fair Fight by Anna Freeman.

    I adore Asia-based historical fiction and this year have loved Pachinko (Min Jin Lee), The Island Of Sea Women (Lisa See), and The Library of Legends (Janie Chang)

    Historical fiction is my favourite genre. Totally agree with Stacey Halls in terms of cozy escapism. Definitely adding The Silence of Scheherazade. Sounds wonderful. I've just reserved The Mad Women's Ball by Victoria Mas from the library. Translated from the French. Being made for Amazon Prime (subtitled). Not sure what to expect but heard good things about it so giving it a try. Great video.

    I love historical fiction, up there with japanese literature and fantasy as one of my favorite types of books, but I am SO behind!
    Thank you for this great video to really help me figure out some of my most pressing gaps in the genre! Laura Purcell definitely high on my priority list, and The Silence of Scheherazade I have never heard of and it sounds like something I would absolutely love.

    Have you read The House Of Whispers or The Poison Thread also by Laura Purcell? I recently discovered her writing and adore it-- Daphne du Maurier is my favorite author and I love that Purcell's novels evoke the same feelings as Du Maurier's novels (at least for me).

      I just checked and it looks like The Poison Thread is The Corset and House of Whispers is Bone China. They must be the US versions? So yes, I have! And you're right, she has filled a gap left by authors like Du Maurier and Shirley Jackson.

      @@WillowTalksBooks Silly me!! I hadn't even noticed that!! Well, that makes it confusing, to be honest. That saved me money seeing as I was about to order the two 🤣. If I would have read the synopsis of the books, I would have come to the same conclusion as you did-- thanks for clearing that up for me!!

    It would be wonderful to know

      I have been thinking about doing that! I've got some great articles about short story collections (from Japan, the Middle East, and by Black authors) but I'll put a video together at some point!

    Lovely video. Besides east Asian fiction, British Historical fiction by women writers are my absolute fav reads. Currently reading Mrs England and enjoying like a warm cup of tea on a rainy day. If you haven't read Wakenhyrst, would love to recommend it ⚘

      I have read Wakenhyrst and really enjoyed it! It's set in an area very close to where I am right now, which added to the spook factor a little bit.

      Someone else asked this as well so I did some research. Turns out The House of Whispers is the US name for Bone China.

    In my mind I’m a little confused by historical fiction. I’ve always thought of historical fiction as a fictional story about an actual event as opposed to a story that takes place in a previous time or era. I’ve never cared much about fiction based on true events but I do enjoy stories that take place in another era or time. What Is a general definition of historical fiction

    • @WillowTalksBooks
      @WillowTalksBooks  2 роки тому +1

      It's exactly what you said: fiction that takes place in a previous time or era.
