Tudor historical fiction has been a favorite, for me, for decades.

Which ones in particular would you recommend to start with? Philippa Gregory? Would love to know!

Part 2? Yes, please! I'll be waiting with bated breath. I loved Memoirs of a Geisha and I'm somewhat tempted to watch the movie. I have recently heard about The Fountains of Silence and I ordered a copy. It's my next read. You sold me on Homegoing; can't wait to get my hands on it. I appreciate the diversity represented in your historical fiction choices. Funny thing is that I start out with a Historical Fiction and then fall down the Fiction rabbit holes pertaining to the historical event. First time watching you; pleased to meet you. I subscribed to your channel and I don't often comment but your thorough reviews are inspiring. Thanks for spreading the joy of reading.

Sparks like stars is an Afghan historical fiction that’s really good if you’re interested in that part of the world.

I loved TLofL. I was looking outside WWII also. TLoL taught me to keep digging, there are loads of topics and counties. Thanks for the mentions. Nice to see a individual thought process and not gang mentality.
    Hope you do another HFvid.

From Latinoamérica I can recomend the book “My tender matador”. There are lots of books where you can learn about the dictatorships of Latinoamérica in the XX century, but this book in particular is really dear to my heart so I really recomend it.

Love this video! Those are fantastic recs. I thoroughly enjoyed Fountains of Silence, Dreamland Burning, and Homegoing too. And I feel ya about our “education system”. As an adult historical fiction & nonfiction reader, I am constantly at awe about how much I don’t know and wasn’t taught in school!

If you like historical fiction, I would recommend reading Elif Shafak's novels "40 Rules of Love" & "The Architects Apprentice" her writing is amazing (for me). A lot of her stories take place in Turkey through the Ottoman empire.

Aztec by Gary Jennings, which I enjoyed thoroughly, takes place in historic Central/South America. There are some sequels but they are on my TBR. Gondar by Nicholas Luard, also very good, takes place in Africa. Both stories have very small traces of fantasy as I recall (e.g., sibling psychic link). Thanks for this video. I was hemming and hawing about Pachinko, but I think I'll pass now with so many others impatiently waiting for me on my TBR shelf.

The Hummingbird’s Daughter by Luis Alberto Urrea takes place in Mexico, even though that’s not quite South America it’s a good example of history in Mexico. It’s not my favorite book ever because it’s violent and sad, but again, I learned a lot

Pachinko was just so so, I feel it has been very hyped up. I like you liked the beginning, but it just flattened out into nothing.
