It looks incredible, I think I will place little unified styroform cubes, cardboard or crumpled paper napkins inside the cups, to prevent the cupcakes from sinking inside the cups. One could make the inner circle ones a bit higher and stack the cupcakes from the inside out with smaller risks.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. This is a very well thought out tutorial. I personally hate American Buttercream, and only use Swiss Meringue Buttercream. I think I would have an issue with the icing getting all over the place because it will not form a "crust". 😞

You could use the same cellophane to add strips over the top after it's finished and just stick it with cellotape to the sides. However, I usually make it fresh and collection or delivery happens on the same day, so customers get it open like a bunch of real flowers would be
I only freeze unfrostes cupcakes. Once decorated, room temperature is fine (if you dont use milk in your buttercream) , or fridge if you want to. The buttercream forms a natural crust in room temperature that will make it firm.

Yes SMBC won't work as well I'm afraid. It will also be more difficult to pipe with since it's too soft.
