Skiing double black diamonds and a triple at Big Sky in Montana

- Big Sky is one of the mountains I grew up skiing, I remember when the tram opened in 1995. Big Sky has grown substantially since then and now it's the third biggest resort in North America. It features some of the most extreme terrain of any resort and on this trip I tried out the Headwaters for the first time.
Wow! This is exciting! Thanks for sharing. We have double black diamonds in Pennsylvania--but they are nothing like this (LOL!). I guess it is all relative to the terrain. I can do them in PA, but no way would I ski on these runs.
I bet you could do some of those as long as you pick the steep slopes that give you room to turn. It's the narrow shoots that are hard, I can't really do it myself.
So sick. What was the Headwaters run you did? Looks gnarly af.
@charlief8690 I think it was hellroaring. But I also think they are all similar on the right side after the hike up. I didn't have the confidence to straight line it through there that is for sure.
@@SteveDent32 I just rewatched and totally missed the very clear graphic that says "Hellroaring" haha. I can see now that you showed the descent into the run and cut straight to the choke at the bottom. That's what initially had me wondering where this was. Thanks, man!
Wow. I only do blues, but seeing you do double blacks make me realize why I am not *anywhere* near ready for that terrain. And you did one of them while holding Go Pro in one hand? Wtf.
I didn't do any of them with the go pro on the pole, I did the little catwalk then stopped. You got to take those steep slopes really seriously. But that is one reason I like the Go Pro you can attach it hit record and forget about it, thanks for watching.
@@SteveDent32 thanks for sharing. It's cool watching you advanced dudes tackle what seems impossible for us newbies. Do you actually enjoy it when you have to side slip and jump turn so much? Seems a bit of a chore.
@@vladarino I'm not even that good, really good skiers can straight line that and do it much better then me. I'm jump turning and side slipping out of necessity so I don't get going too fast and out of control. But I like it, I will say my legs were burning it was probably not the best idea to do multiple tram laps then hike up to the triple black shoots.
Dope edit. Headed to Big Sky next weekend. Hoping for great snow. Which runs are a must to hit?
Depends on your skill level I found the headwaters hike to be above mine. The Tram is cool but it costs extra, but it's an experience unlike any other. The Liberty Bowl is a single black, steep, but wide open. The tree skiing is awesome in Forbidden Forest or the Bavarian Forest, they have jump lines and terrain parks. A lot of intermediate people like the Andesite side, but it's so big that you can't ski that whole resort in one day.
Could be nicer without audio..
