I still remember going to sebastian and surfing with kelly when I was 5. Well I was boogie boarding while he would be getting filmed. Always loved saying I surfed with him. Never actually met him ,but I never say that part. Grew up 1 block from where he lived in cocoa
Incredible I think over last 6 or 8 years at least 1championship he out surfed opponents, but didn't outscore them, I love a couple of the new Brazilian crew, but not all bias or not, he should have won at least 1 more. *Admision, I'm old & hopeless grom amazed by KS skill & perception, wave selection is so important, 2020 Pipe & Maui finals high lighted this, 4 me, King 4ever
I used to surf out there with Kelly and Sean Slater and I almost got in a fight with Kelly Slater because he snake me on a wave and we were on the inside I wanted to smash him with my board but he just took off and went back out and started riding waves again and ignored me it's all good Kelly I forgive youyep I was riding out there with those guys in the lineup '80s
Should make 12 or 13, may even Olympic gold if they have 10 pro, 10 Grom, 13 Non surfing fans, if they use Skype or Zm or Duo & a 5-part score, wave 8, effort 8, style 9, duration 12 & tricks difficulty 13
Very good times! Notice the crowd. No more the kooks from this Blue Crush generation!!! There are so many people in the water nowadays!!! I miss when I was a kid!!! Everything was simpler and we spent so much time surfing! It was magic!
I was 16 when he was 13 and saw him surfing Sebastian Inlet many times. He was very good but never imagined he would win 11 world titles. I got in his way once and he called me a squid. Those were good days to be a Floridian and surfer in the early to mid 1980-s.
First saw him in 85/ 86 at the Wave Wizards contest on Singer Island , me an my freinds watched the ASP tour pros actually shaking their heads in disbelief at his abilities, they were worried for their jobs when he went pro!! He was riding a 1FT wave a fishing boat was making for the demo and RIPPING!!
That is amazing they did a contest at Singer Island. They gave up doing them up here in Stuart. I heard a girl got shot in the park right there by the dive shop like a week ago and was killed....I know the island is technically Riviera but godam I didnt know it was that bad there nkw
@@Soul-Taker yep,Martin was one of the pros watching Kelly, a sneak peak at what was coming I stil have Potters signature on a poster from meeting him that day at Fox Surfboards, best day of my surfing youth
I'd be pumping the shit out of those same waves and getting no where... while Kelly builds speed effortlessly. My whole life, he's been a world class athlete and just seems like a super cool guy too.
Quiet Flight boards were by far, the best east coast boards in the 80's. I had two during those golden years and they never let me down. I was doing the same shit Kelly was doing at the time, but not as frequent. Only 150 lbs back then...If only...
I lost respect for John John Florence when he went to the Olympics injured and surfed like shit, knowing he could have passed the spot to Kelly. Kelly would have probably won gold too because as seen in this video and unlike JJF, he can actually surf small waves.
Mine was a quiet flight 6’8” and I still have it. Matt dresser did the graphics on it and did an outstanding job. lol I guess I went a little over the top with the graphics.
Merry Christmas 2020 to u and your family Kelly, thanks for the visit, don't the girls love u, not surprising brother. I had a look the surf's shit educate the right when the let's no better if u know what I mean.
Holy shit a Quite Flight board. Haven't seen one of those in 20 years. And mine got stolen when I was 17. Best board I ever had. I was I could get my hands on the punk that did it.
Wow Steve Lenches.. Haven't heard your name or run into you in years. Great nostalgic vid. Still have a poster of that air you caught of me at boardwalk somewhere in my closet.

I know, I will upset many people, but this is not Kelly Slater. Kelly slater is bold, and always been. This is just some random kid, probably in front of green screen around, I guess 2020s, probably from Pixar or Disney.

Good buddy of mine surfed with him at outer banks late 80’s.. he said Kelly was a total prick and snaking everyone.

I’ve always wondered who the inspiration for the Surf Punks song “Shoulder Hopper” was, now I know😂
That's what I used to as well, I figured the fairest way is whoever gets to the wave first and takes off.
I would say that Kelly Slater is one of the top athletes of all time..thanks
I lived there at the time and remember watching him many times
Would love to know if U were old enough to wonder how far this kid could go,🤔✌️
his fundamnetals have been set early
so stoked to see a vintage Slater footage
of course... look at his hands every time he makes turns... gosh... still the same... so cool

Kelly the grom sitting inside snaking and ripping. 😂 Legend.
Sebastian Inlet, I use to see him there in early 90’s
This is hilarious, just watching him shred the waves, get down mid wave and then get back to it 😂

Kelly riding a QF! Wonder how many of these waves he actually remembers...
