I noticed that the impeccable yarns got softer over the years and I also love the avocado green from craftsmart. I just got it and made a beanie and it was soft! I was impressed for the price and quality! I also like Caron simply soft and big twist cotton yarn!
I think both Impeccable and Craftsmart both rebranded and came out with a new texture. Its more obvious with Craftsmart as it used to be worse than Red Heart. Super stiff and scratchy. Impeccable definitely got softer around the time they introduced the new lines.
@@CrysTvsky yes agreeed and i am so happy about it. even the caron one pound got crazy soft! i bought it last year and it was scratchy and a bit stiff.. i even returned it and this year i got it and it was so soft!! and the drape was beautiful!! i hope they continue to make that kind of blend!
I was listening to a local crochet podcast and the presenters mentioned that industrial yellow dye is slightly more acidic, so the more yellow dye used, the thinner and less squishy the yarn becomes!
i work at michaels and i love the impeccable yarn, also just an FYI michaels typically has a 20% off coupon off all regular priced items and it would work on the yarn, so if you want to save more money, look for that coupon!! :)
I'm from South East Asia so it's really hard to come across good quality yarn, but I went to the US when I was a teen and went into Michael's for the first time. Just WOW, the collection they have is AMAZING. Wish I could go back just for the yarn 😍
Love videos like this, they fulfill my yarn buying needs lol. Also that multi colour yarn is called variegated, not roving. Roving has to do with texture
impeccable yarn was my go-to but i just started using craft smart yarn from michaels and it is SO soft and fills in any missing colors somehow missing from the impeccable line !!!
i was at michael’s yesterday and was so shocked by how soft the impeccable yarn was. huge selection and amazing texture. i came home yesterday with one of their “perfect pair” yarns (fingering weight for socks) from the same manufacturer and the color mixes were so pretty. i also got a really soft rayon yarn made from bamboo that they had in earthy and pastel shades. definitely prefer michael’s over joann’s now!
Love watching these videos and looking at all the yarn! I recently tried the Caron Latte Cakes yarn and made a pair of fingerless gloves. I couldn't believe how soft it was and how pretty the colours were. You should definitely try it out :) It sheds a little bit but it's not too bad
yep softer yarns usually pill easily and are better for things you don't wear hard like ponchos or capes and more durable yarns that don't pill are better for pullovers an hoodies for sure : )
Craft smart and impeccable have changed where the yarn is made from so it is now softer. So check if it is from turkey because those are softer. I think it went from china, India and turkey. I usually find turkey yarn soft and plump depending on what yarn companies want from a specific yarn.
Not 100% sure but I think they said turkey!! I have honestly fallen in love with Craftsmart and impeccable yarns. Same quality as Lion brand for cheaper prices 💓
I'm currently using the craft smart yarn (literally crocheting with it as I watch) I find the softness can change based on the dye lot. I'm making a sweater (mens medium) and its taken me 5 balls - one of which is from a different dye lot and it is noticeably softer than the other dye lot I used. Also definitely try a sample square first! I'm using a 5.5 crochet hook and a moss stitch and it is very stiff. I should have used a bigger hook
Would you ever consider doing a "dupe yarn" type video? I always see people knitting with Knitting for Olive, Sandnes Garn, Wool in the Gang etc. but I find it to be so expensive! Are there any cheaper yarns that could substitute for the trendy expensive ones?
be sure that if you're making potholders or any make that will come into contact with high heat, please PLEASE use a natural fiber yarn like cotton or wool do not use acrylic or acrylic blends. not safe for items that come into direct contact with high heat!
hey Erin! I'm sorry I've been barely active 😭 it's exam week so I've been studying like there's no tomorrow I'm having a marathon of all the vids I missed missed you girl!
After I make a Top or whatever I wash it and I use a Softner and it always comes out Super soft even the Red Heart super savers and to me there are scratchy
CraftSmart is Michael’s name brand. They stopped getting their yarn made in China and switched to Turkey. Big Twists is JoAnn’s name brand.I bought Big Twist Living, which is supposed to be anti-pilling but it still pulled…badly 😔
This was a fun vid! Just wanted to clarify though that roving is regarding the ply on it, like if it’s not really twisted at all. Not to do with color.
omg im early, i love your videos!! is it possible to maybe do an online yarn recommendation video especially those with international shipping? where i live, it’s always so difficult to get nice yarn 😭
Hey there! I was just wondering if you recommended using the brand Truboo for sweaters? I know you mentioned it in another video, just curious if it's good for sweaters.
I don’t care for impeccable yarn very much. It works up stiff and scratchy. I much prefer I Love This Yarn from Hobby Lobby and Big Twist at Joanne’s. If I want to spend a tiny bit more, I’ll choose Lion Brand Heartland. Needless to say, I feel like most everything is better than Impeccable. Just my opinion…
The homespun yarn reminded me of the yarn I had (used it all) it was big twist (waterfall) and I found it in some old stuff after I got into crochet it was soo nice because I was running out of yarn
i also noticed the craftsmart yarn can be pretty unpredictable aha i stocked up about a month ago for making christmas gifts and i got red, white, black, green and a beige and i noticed the red was a lot scratchier than the other colours, it was a lot stiffer when i made amigurumi as well, but I don't really mind since its so cheap and its doesn't affect my creations, I probably just wouldn't use it to make any clothes.
Do you ever by yarn from otter countrys, there is no selection here in Iceland and I am thinking of buying “big twist” from Joann’s but I think the shipping is expensive?
I’ve bought yarn from Denmark/European countries and some South American countries as well! I limit how much I buy international due to shipping prices 💓

Love the video!!!💖💖💖 I'm hoping I can get to Michael's sometime soon, but I have finals next week. If anyone knows, when does the sale end? Also, unrelated to Michaels, but if anyone wants to make a blanket Joann's has Lion Brand Cover Story. It's one ball of yarn that can make a whole blanket!!! Roving is actually unspun fiber lol loosely used terminology that is actually wrong somehow became a trendy term.
I love the Caron Simply Soft, it’s so incredibly soft! It is a little pricier but if you can catch it on one of these big sales it’s worth it imo.
oh I don't it pills so bad and looks old fast! it is soft but not good for wearables.
Shawl in a ball is my #1 favorite yarn. So much more versatile than you might think, and the FOs are always stunning!
So glad to rekindle my love for shawl in a ball. The glitter is actually amazing 💓

hi!! not sure if anyone's commented this yet, but please don't make potholders with acrylic -- it can burn and cause problemssss
2:40 - I think Roving is more about the twist or structure of the yarn. It's like the untwisted wool that people felt with. :)

What does peeling mean? On yarn She mentions on the beginning on the video ?
“Pilling” is kind of when the yarn starts to ball up and create little chunks and lose its durability ✨

That's soo much yarn that side and it's beautiful

Is impeccable yarn thinner than big twist?
I would say they're about the same from my experience. Impeccable might be a touch thicker though.

Best way to describe it is when the yarn starts to ball up and create those little chunks and get super fluffy 💓
