Alpha Dream never made the transition into 3D games. They had other projects that fell through, including one by ForwardWorks. AD fell into debt and had to shutter. Nintendo didn't do anything
Nintendo only Cares about itself. All they care about is control and hurting those who are not as powerful as they are. It’s truly a waste of potential because there games are art.

Nintendo definitely has a role bcuz they didn’t gatekeep other devs despite their patents so that games would grow as a whole. But whats the point when you could play the original on the same system. There are some changes I liked like changing the setting of Peach's Castle and making it darker although the original has it's charm and Fawful has a boss theme but also it changes the title's menu into a worse one.
The truth is the game isn’t bad. Its bowsers inside story and everyone loves that game and the Bowser Junior side mode is a really nice addition. The problem is that the game was very unnecessary and it was the final nail in the coffin for alpha dream
I don't think it was unnecessary. It was given love into this remake, and AlphaDream was already in a bad state even before the BiS remake, also it was the first time I played Bowser Inside Story and I like this version alot more than the DS one.
@@gabeznl3591 It was a remake on a console that you could already play the game on. That’s the definition of unnecessary. I’m not saying they didn’t put in any effort, but as someone who already owned the original, I couldn’t see any legitimate reason to buy it again.
There was certainly a precedent for this remake. The games after BiS (Dream Team and Paper Jam) did not sell nearly as well, so that motivated Alphadream to just remake their older games as a last resort. They probably decided to go with BiS rather than PiT because it was their most popular game, but unfortunately it flopped in sales for the reasons you stated in this video. Considering Nintendo still has the IP for the M&L franchise, it could very well return in the future. Personally I'm very upset about Alphadream's bankruptcy, because the original reason given for Paper Mario's radical change was that Nintendo didn't want 2 different Mario JRPG franchises, but now we're left with none...
@@sempre8135 Maybe because it's a very old copy? I used to have Animal Crossing Wild World back when I first bought the DS Lite many years ago. That copy no longer works and I took good care of the cartridge. Before you say it, I even put the cartridge in the original case whenever I stopped playing it.
This wasn't ever about unleashing Demeech's Fury At Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's minions. It was all about unleashing it at New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe. Absolutely brilliant.
I haven't even opened up my copy of _New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe_ yet for the Nintendo Switch! If 'Demeech' destroys it, he owes me $80.00 CAD + 12% sales tax.
No matter what anyone says, my son loved this game and is his most played 3ds/2ds game. He was 6 years old when this came out and 7 a month later. He had a New 2DS at this time and I got him all the late release remakes and it really made that part of his gaming childhood great. He loves all of those games. Luigi’s Mansion, Kirby’s Epic Yarn, Super Mario Maker 3ds, Bowser’s inside story and Super Star Saga remakes. They were his first experiences and I got joy watching him enjoy them so much and talk to me about them and show me things. I always remember that Bowser Jr.s Journey music because he played that part of it so much. He would fall asleep in the car and I would hear that music play from the driver seat. The New 2DS was perfect for him at that time. He didn’t need a Switch at that age nor would I want to hand a kid that young a piece of tech that expensive. I had the Switch and we would play that together. That New 2DS Xl was his system and those were his games. It made him feel he had an exclusive piece of the game room and his own little collection.
I like how we got the remake of BIS on 3DS. At first, I thought it was dumb to remake this game for a console that can already play the original game on and the fact that there isn't any 3D (which I still really don't like or understand), but honestly... BIS is such a unique game in the sense that in basically needs to be on a DS to be what it is. If we received a Switch version, it wouldn't be the same. Furthermore, it's nice to have a modern version of a game that is so beloved! It is so beautiful! This remake is probably going to be the last traditional styled Mario RPG game we will see for a good while, so I am glad we got this in the end over nothing! Let me also say that the Bowser Jr. mode is extremely cool because it's the only time we have ever had Bowser Jr. become a main protagonist! Very fitting considering this is a Bowser game as well! They gave the koopalings a personality and purpose. The new story is just so great, and they made some major improvements from Bowser's Minions! Sure, a PiT remake is more needed because that game could really be enhanced in so many ways. For instance, I feel like they didn’t do enough with the time travel idea and there weren’t many characters. Plus, some combat improvements would be appreciated, like BP and etc. Also, some more DS-like ideas would be cool too. Regardless. Since they weren’t changing much to the stories of BiS’s or SS’s remake, the BiS remake is probably a better route. I feel like BiS is more of a direct sequel to SS, because both games feature Fawful, so I can see what they were trying to do there. It’s cool to have a connected story like that! We even see some references to Bowser’s Minion’s too! This was really a rare opportunity for AlphaDream to capitalize on! I wish we had more Mario RPGs that felt like telling a continuous story. The first three Paper Mario games felt connected! Couldn't have been better except for a few things. Demeech has a point that the marketing and circumstances really harmed this game and the company in the end. Sure, it's partially Alpha Dream's fault for releasing this game at the end of the 3DS' life, but Nintendo made no effort to market it and only really harmed it and Alpha Dream simply wanted to end the 3DS off with a high note before they couldn't anymore. In the end, it's sad what happened, but at least this is a great game, and I am so happy we got it and on 3DS too!
The loss of 3D in the later 3DS games like this one was really a huge loss. I think it really takes away a key characteristic of what makes 3DS games 3DS games. I know most games using the 3D at that point tuned it down a ton since the earlier 3DS days so the effect almost becomes unnoticeable after a while, but even a minimal 3D effect would've been really nice for the 3DS diehards who were also the most likely people to still be playing it that late into the lifecycle. I wonder if any hacks can get it working on the New 3DS, especially since it already dropped the frame rate in half. I'd trade 60fps for 3D, but not having either sucks (like most of the Pokemon 3DS games). I feel for this game. It's unfortunate what happened to it and Alpha Dream. But considering it was the 4th Mario and Luigi game on the console, maybe they just burned out their audience and potential growth. Definitely mismanaged til the end, but they seem to have been truly passionate about this series they created
I'm not trying to say it is nintendos fault for not marketing it but the final 3DS games were probably in development either before the switch launched or very early into the switches life. Since it takes time to make a game. Warioware Gold, Kirby extra epic yarn and BiS didn't get like any marketing. I think Warioware Gold got the most marketing but then Nintendo probably realized that the 3DS was a lost cause and thay the Switch essentially rendered it useless.
I really dont like this remake but I gotta say, the story of bowser jr journey is the best story we got last decade from any mario rpg including dream team, it explores jr. and the koopalings characters in ways we had never seen before, and the way he goes through an arc to discover that he was dickhead to them is just so cool, we havnt had an arc like that in the mario rpgs for a while now
I know right! The story of Bowser Junior‘s journey is literally the best Mario story we’ve gotten since super paper Mario or at the very least in years and it sucks because barely anyone talks about it
They said Link's Awakening on Switch was originally a 3DS title. But after Bowser's Inside Story, the plans changed to release Link's Awakening on Switch.
I’ll be one to regard Mario & Luigi Bowser's Inside Story as one of the greatest RPGs of all time, and even though I have the original and still do prefer it more, I did pick up the remake and had a lot of fun with it thanks to there being enough small changes that add up to make them feeling like two different experiences. It’s such a brilliantly executed, absurd, and heartrich game that you can’t find any RPG quite like it. That’s what still makes the remake worth double dipping on in my opinion. Lightning can’t strike the same place twice, but this is about as close as it can. I want to give a shout out to the overhauled gear system in the remake in particular. Mario & Luigi Bowser’s Inside Story is the series entry that introduced the three slot gear system which would allow customization beyond simple stat increases, and in the remake, the gear selection has been updated significantly with tons of new gear with even more perks and quirks that will have an impact remixing the combat gameplay more than in any other Mario & Luigi title. It’s something that seems small that ultimately goes a long way for how you experience each game differently. On one hand, it is a bummer that the cards were dealt the way they were, since there were even talks about Alphadream expanding even further as a company at the time of this remake's release. On the other hand, if Alphadream had to eventually die one day, the one thing I would have wished for as an ultimate send off would have been a new way to experience Mario & Luigi Bowser’s Inside Story one more time, and that’s exactly what ended up happening. You either die a hero or live long enough to be a Pokémon Company. For the several top of the crop, innovative, passionate experiences that Alphadream was able to create, I consider that they went out as heroes. They knew how to redefine the structure of RPGs in order to adapt them into the modern era to make them enjoyable and respectable. That’s a feat that not many RPG developers today even manage to accomplish. - Noah
how did they killed it when people did not want to support it at all? is more the case of the consumers part where it failed and tiny bit on nintendos part for not just buying alpha dream when they had the chance
Alphadream themselves wanted to make it for 3DS because they have never made a game in HD and it was probably faster, easier and cheaper to release BiS on the 3DS. AlphaDrwam not being bought is like Rare. They're both a former shell of their glory and Nintendo didn't wanna buy a company that wouldn't really benefit them. Rare hasn't produced anything worthwhile as of late and Alphadream probably has the worst selling Mario game. I don't really see why it is Nintendos fault for not wanting to buy a developer who doesn't even have the skills to produce a game on switch.
I mean, Sonic Spinball, Sonic CD, and Sonic Chaos released in North America on the same day. But those were actually marketed together. And the Genesis, Sega CD, and Game Gear were still relevant.
I haven't played the remake, but I think I prefer the original's soundtrack over the remake. The background effects in Bowser's body do look nice though. The original game was actually my first RPG (I got it for Christmas one year and it took me a decade or so to actually beat it because, put simply, I couldn't get past the button mashing segments). I'm still going to hold the original in high regard, and I hope that some day an improvement/difficulty hack is released for it. If they announced a new Mario & Luigi, I'd be on it immediately. If not, I'd love to see the series get a spiritual successor in some form. Or, at the very least, put Fawful as a boss in the inevitable Mario & Sonic at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
There is already a built-in difficulty mod in the original though: the challenge medal, which increases the HP of all bosses and enemies by 50% and doubles the damage they do (if I can remember correctly, it might have also been a 50% increase but I think it was double) whenever you have it equipped.
Who said there are not gonna be more mario and luigi games? Just because alphadream doesn’t exist anymore it doesn’t mean that the series is not dead, remember that nintendo still owns the series.
Bowser Junior's Journey was honestly the best part of this remake. Main game giant battles were improved. Bosses like Junker and Dark Star were reasonable, Skippable tutorials, skippable minigames, Dark Star and Dark Fawful feel like unique bosses with their own unique theme, etc.. all of that was the good the game brought The bad: No easy way for infinite beans, main boss theme still doesn't work when Bowser fights the boss, Dark Fawful still has that annoying as hell attack that failure to counter can nearly cause you to die, there isn't much of a challenge in the game, retry clocks are replaced by "try again with Easy Mode?", When going through the side story, Bowser Junior's Journey, it actually opens up a plothole that actually makes the Toads the villains. Had the Toads invited Bowser so they could have dealt with the disease, Both him and the bros could have worked to find a way to cure the Blorbs on both the Toads and Bowser's own minions. you eliminate Fawful from being able to manipulate everything, Bowser's Castle and Peach's Castle is never taken over we take the Bowser Junior Journey's route where with Bowser Junior's Cure, he gives it to all the citizens in the entire kingdom. Fawful's Plan falls apart, he is unable to revive the Dark Star, and then there is no climatic Dark Bowser fight.
Actually the weirdest part is the fact it released like right after Christmas in Japan, like why not like even just a few days earlier if it was already a finished game by that point?
I did have some issues: the biggest one is they nerfed some of the special attacks. In the original, Magic Window could be used infinitely if you didn’t mess up. It was a late-game, “git gud” move. Now, you will get to keep going if you mess up, and will have a finishing move as well.
I didn’t like that aspect of it at first, but I think it was a good change in retrospect. It was a really broken attack in the original and if paired with the Falling Star, it rendered every boss pretty much null and void.
@@Menacetosociety05 I mean it’s broken if you’re really really really really good at keeping up with the speed and timing of the attack (which I’m willing to bet most people wouldn’t be able to tbh lol, even as an young adult I can’t keep up at a certain point)
Luigi's Mansion was originally made with 3D in mind. Nintendo had planned a 3D screen for the GameCube, but decided not to release it as it would have been to expensive at retail. It getting ported to the 3DS was great imo.
Sad Story: I lost almost all my classic DS games because Mom gave my DS to someone else. It's because I couldn't find the remote to the TV. Good thing one of them got a remake.
I love Morton in this game so much. That one scene genuinely almost made me cry. You know the one. I can't believe there were 4 AAA in 2019 for the 3DS. That is ridiculous. Kirby's Exrra Epic Yarn, Bowser's Inside Story DX, Pokémon Crystal Virtual Console and Persona Q2.
Demeech (as Zygarde 50% Form) transformed into his Complete Form! Demeech (as Zygarde Complete Form) used Core Enforcer on New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe! It's super effective! New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe fainted!
A remake of one of my all-time favorite games performing horribly. Can't believe Alphadream had to do themselves this dirty. My hope for the Mario and Luigi franchise is for Retro Studios to revive it after MP4.
Even if AlphaDream no longer exists, the Mario & Luigi RPG series is never too far gone for a revival. I hope the aforementioned RPG series gets reassigned to another developer, like Retro Studios or Grezzo.
I played the demo and could tell it was a good version on 3DS just not many people played wanted it since well people moved on to the switch at that point.
One thing i would change in the series, is an option to disable the battle start animation so you instantly get put in the battle, like holy frick the amount of times i felt pain while grinding the mobs because of the time it takes to even defeat an underleveled mob due to the animations and the time it takes for their turn to end is insane.
19:44 I see your point. I actually liked NSMBU Deluxe (on the Switch was the first time I could play it because I didn't have the Wii U) , but finding out now that it came out the same time as a fun-looking Mario RPG talked about all over the Internet, makes my feelings about the game change altogether. I agree, that seems like a scummy business practice. If you're going to release a game in your own franchise, or remake one, try to find a good release date so it's not overshadowed by other games.
@@Demeech as a fan of the NSMB series, nsmbu is a good game and the switch port was okay and I didn’t have Wii U until now so yeah nsmbu is a good game but not the best Mario has to offer but still a good! Although I prefer nslu!! But it’s just me
I honestly love the Mario and Luigi games. The games have made a big impact on my life. I honestly really hope that a new game in this series will come next year, since it’s the series 20th Anniversary. But then again with Alphadream no more, I honestly don’t feel confident that this will happen. Even if it did, would a new game not developed by Alphadream be as good as the ones already released?
So sad to see AlphaDream gone because BiS was my first JRPG and I have fond memories with it. Of course I copped this remake for old times sake. I was devastated when I heard the news in 2019 that it was the new worst selling Mario game, even more so when AlphaDream went bankrupt.
@@liamplqys I know, I saw the direct this week and I am so hyped. From the looks of the new gameplay footage from the trailer, I'd assume that Next Level Games and/or Good-Feel are working on it. Good-Feel worked on the giant battles on the 3DS giant battles and the new art style mirrors the look and feel of those giant battles. Would not surprise me if Good-Feel is involved. I wish the former AlphaDream employees the best and they are (probably) very happy to see that the Mario & Luigi IP still lives on, even after they declared bankruptcy and aren't working on it anymore.
I grew up with the original BIS, and this game released 5 days before my birthday. I didnt get it because I didnt have a 3ds at the time because my sister broke mine, but I have a 2ds now and I got the game and I enjoyed it alot! also, I feel like the reason that this game wasn't remade on switch wasn't because of figuring out how 2 screens would work like I hear most people say, I feel like they struggled to make some touch screen controls (manly Bowser's special attacks) work in docked mode
Yeah, the mechanics in the Bowser's Inside Story remake wouldn't work well with the Nintendo Switch to begin with. Even if AlphaDream did manage to translate the mechanics to the Switch and release the remake on that system instead, it still wouldn't do them any good. Even if AlphaDream changed their minds and remade Partners in Time for both the 3DS and the Switch instead of Bowser's Inside Story, AlphaDream would still go bankrupt and shut down forever, regardless. AlphaDream's demise was just plain inevitable.
What really offed me was that the giant battles were designed exclusively for right-handers, whereas the original was designed exclusively for left-handers. Dream Team HAD BOTH💀
This might just be my single least favorite business decision from Nintendo ever. Bowser's Inside Story is a game I hold very near and dear to me, it was my very first ds game and still what I consider to be my favorite Mario game, ds game, and possibly even RPG of all time. This game used the ds hardware perfectly and has visuals and a soundtrack which absolutely still stand the test of time. The fact that Nintendo absolutely destroyed Alphadream and anything this franchise had left is just heartbreaking. I never personally bought Bowser Jr's Journey like many others because of the fact that I could already play the original on the 3ds, and while I think this game is 100% made for the DS hardware, Mario and Luigi deserved support on the switch. Who at Nintendo thought this was a good idea? I really hope the Alphadream employees are doing better now.
For real. I think if they made the remake for switch it would have sold way better. I mean lets be real by the time this game came out everyone was used to HD resolution and had no interest to play on a 3ds. Also the switchs motion controls and touchscreen would have been perfect to remake the mini games
the reason PiT didn't get remake and instead BIS was probably because at this point alphadream was already in debt and was basically in panic mode, so in a last ditch effort made a remake of their best selling game to try and stay afloat
That is true, since Alpha Dream was recovering from poor management and crunch time during the transition from the jump from the DS to the 3DS, but they accumulated a lot of debt even before the remake release in Japan on Dec 27, 2018. Say have you watched Lizardy's video on AlphaDream's Bankrupts?
This hurts Nintendo Why? You unleash a cool game on the same day as U deluxe? A game that’s worse then the original? That is so stupid! It’s such a cool game why did you treat it like this?
I've been saying that New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe was at fault since the beginning, but almost no one believed me. Releasing a Mario & Luigi game and an NSMB game on the exact same day and marketing ONLY NSMB was one of the WORST ways a game could be outshined. To add insult to injury, NSMB also got free marketing from BIG Nintendo UA-camrs (many of whom even flat out admitted they didn't like the game when playing it on their channel) who likely only got the game to cash in on the Bowsette meme while it was popular, meanwhile M&L was only covered by niche folk without nearly as many fans or views.
Oh I believe you. In fact I think the "original" NSMBU back in 2013 was a contributing factor to the Wii U's failure. They kept showing off things that were already on the Wii. Anyone who isn't a dedicated Nintendo fan would've easily mistaken it for NSMBWii.
If this isn't the most absolutely FURIOUS you've ever been in ANY video, I don't know what is. This was truly one of the most unnecessary remakes Nintendo has ever made, and the damage it did to AlphaDream, the 3DS, and the Mario & Luigi series as a whole cannot be overstated. This game absolutely BROKE the 3DS. Even a game as sordid as Sticker Star or Star Rush at least had some sort of lasting value, and I can't help but somehow feel that Nintendo deliberately released NSMBUDX on the same day just to sabotage AlphaDream and the 3DS.
I for one understand why they bothered releasing Luigi’s Mansion on 3DS in 2018. The original GameCube version was planned to be in 3D, so it only makes sense to realize that idea. Still, having a 3D and HD version out at the same time could’ve worked. Similar to how they released BOTW on both Wii U and Switch.
3DS support would have ended either way. What's most offensive about this game is the timing it was released. The system was well on it's way out and basically any given model could be cracked for piracy. It did poorly, but it did poorly due to the 3DS and not the other way around, because the 3DS was Nintendo's band-aid for almost a decade and they weren't going to just say "we're ending support" so a few throwaway remakes were perfect.
My only experience is with the original currently, but after seeing people highlight some issues with the game (such as the framerate) I ultimately decided to skip on it. The added content was nice and added some depth to characters like Bowser's Army and his son, Bowser Jr. However, I ultimately agreed they the game really didn't need that. The OG was pretty modern already and I feel as if the mechanics were well defined and mastered by the time Dream Team came out. As a result, the game felt rather redundant to me. It's not bad, but I'm sad that we now have literally no other RPG Mario games other than a Rabbits Crossover because Nintendo basically killed most of them off.
This game was a desperate attempt by AlphaDream to dig themselves out of the hole they were in and in theory it should've worked, remake one of their most popular and most sold games and remake it into 3D, but in execution there were many problems that should've been addressed beforehand but in the desperation of the whole situation were overlooked. The original was still playable on the 3DS, the 3DS already run its course, and the fact that the game didnt run 100% as smooth as the original are just a few of the many issues. Honestly I believe the downfall of AlphaDream had nothing to do with this game and it was going to happen reguardless. They were hopeful that this game would save them but sadly they were mistaken. R.I.P. AlphaDream and hopefully Nintendo can live up to the expectations set by the Golden Age of the Mario and Luigi series in their new title Mario and Luigi Brothership.
Its so strange to me that people just expected or wanted phones to completely replace a completely different format in the DS and 3DS. Of course one can emulate the both of them on phones today, but it just doesn't work nearly as well as the real hardware
The only good thing that came out of this was that it was the wakeup call that the DS family had already worn out it's stay. If we were still getting games for it going into the pandemic, they would definitely have managed to find a way to sell less that 5k copies of a game worldwide.
The Mario & Luigi remakes were AlphaDream's (failed) attempt to stay afloat, by remaking their best selling games (which is why they skipped Partners in Time). AlphaDream was already in financial trouble.
My take, AlphaDream was shoot from the Superstar Saga remake. This isn't because of any one single factor, rather a combination. For me, and the few friends I have that have followed the Mario and Lugi RPG games since OG Superstar Saga unanimously agree that the art style change for Dream Team was, ehh. Not a deal breaker, but a big step down. The colors felt washed when they used to be vibrant, many small little details on the sprites actually became more sparse, or just down right harder to notice, and overall it went from an RPG that just *popped* with a single screenshot, to just: "a DS RPG" which, between DS and 3DS is a label that is incredibly common. I would later regret picking up the Paper Mario crossover and didn't really enjoy my time with it as managing 3 characters just felt kinda awkward and I never quite settled in to it, but I didn't think much of the game, was just thankful it wasn't to long. (Not a stellar opinion, but hey.) Then the remakes. Oh God, now the artstyle became a problem. Every single cutscene just felt off. The cutscenes aren't always adjusted to account for the shift in angles that the new artstyle brings. I was reminded of this in the video here when I saw Bowser interacting with some Fawful's minion and I noticed how "overhead" it looked. I ultimately didn't get the remake and just watched someone else play it, and lost all interest in Bowser's inside story as a result. If Nintendo was mis-marketing intentionally as some here in the comments, claim: then my wager is that Nintendo just cut their loses. (My first big concern as I remember with the SSaga remakes was when I saw a trailer on a Direct, where the Koopa's lining up for Bowser's ship at the start of the game, and the one Koopa who has a unique sprite (different color), had lost it. It felt like a cashgrab from day one, and I tried to find signs that wasn't the case ever since, until I saw the news of the BInside remake. That's when I got jaded.)
I find it weird how Mawful Mole was the only Fawful themed enemy to get a major redesign in the remake, since the other Fawful themed enemies have consistent designs.
11:46 I was so scared this whole thing was gonna be negative, but it seems pretty alright so far. I agree this game did an excellent job at showcasing the Koopalings' personalities further. There is one thing I wanna comment on though... 12:56 How the HECK did you come to THAT conclusion for Iggy? Some nerdy guy who wants to impress Bowser but isn't all that confident? That's completely false. Iggy is a jokester who is hardly ever serious. He has little faith and little to no respect for Bowser and Bowser Junior (seeing as he joked at Bowser's expense directly to his face AND has done it enough times that Bowser simply got silent and then directly got violent with him) and even still remained to not have any faith in Junior when the others saw him as having had matured. Morton was confused and asked a genuine question "JUNIOR WISE? MORTON NOT KNOW" and Iggy replies with "That's insightful, Morton." implying Iggy believes Morton questioning Junior being wise is an accurate and deep understanding of the whole thing, implying Iggy sees Junior as exactly the same as he did before, whom he has little respect for. Kamek describes Iggy as being "crazy like a fox" whereas Iggy IS an incredibly weird and funny guy where you don't know what to expect, but he isn't really crazy. Iggy is also so much a constant jokester who never takes anything seriously and deliberately acts stupid on purpose that when he did suggest something smart "Maybe they were, like, hypnotized or something." the other Koopalings all stared at him as he got nervous and passed it off as one of his usual jokes. Iggy literally had a Patrick Star smart moment in this game and I love every single bit of it. Other than that moment where he got nervous, Iggy seems VERY confident seeing as Iggy literally joked about Bowser being crazy directly to his face, and like I said, has clearly done it a lot more than once judging by the way Bowser reacted the moment Iggy blurted that out. "Bahaha! You're JOKING right? And people say I'M the crazy one!" Contrast Iggy to Larry who clearly lacks the self confidence and courage to stand up for himself "She's right, Roy, don't let the kid get to ya. But on the down low, I feel the same way." "Grow a spine ,Larry! He only cares about himself and will never respect us!" Roy had the confidence to bail on Junior and explain himself to Bowser with how he was being mistreated, but Larry, despite feeling the same as Roy, didn't have the confidence and waited for a moment where he had a good excuse to ditch Junior. Going to the castle upon hearing it's in danger is more than the perfect excuse. It's likely Larry didn't ditch Junior until then because he didn't wanna get yelled at by Bowser in case he DID ditch Junior the way Roy did and Bowser found out. It's been a consistent part of Larry's character that he wants to avoid being yelled at, so he does things he doesn't wanna do, such as fighting Mario. So you could say Larry "lacks a spine" in more ways than one. All the Koopalings were consistent with how they are typically portrayed in this game and others. Iggy having the confidence to make fun of Bowser is consistent, also shown in the NSMBU ending when Bowser's weight was pulling down the ship, Iggy laugh clips were playing as he had an animation facing Bowser. Before that, the other Koopalings seem to have been giving Bowser a "come here" motion whereas Iggy was giving him this weird funny motion. 13:01 That seems accurate, lol, though I would add that he also has a very big heart and is very loyal. "HERE! EAT! MORTON COOK WITH FIRE! MORTON STRONG, BUT FIRE MORE STRONG!" He is also Bowser Junior's best friend (out of the Koopalings) in this game, which was something I had predicted before this game came out, lol. 13:17 I disagree, they are simply Bowser's minions in this game, and the story for what happened and why they're no longer his kids is probably still a mystery (or a retcon). To say the Koopalings "disowned Bowser" because of Junior's behavior is a huge stretch. Especially when they stick around and still clearly work for him, so they're around Junior regardless AND most of them respect Bowser and put up with Junior FOR Bowser (though I'm pretty sure it's clear the only reason Larry did was the obvious avoid being scolded thing, while Iggy did so he could have a good laugh, but then just simply walked away when Junior told him to, because he knew it was a bad idea and thought that by going through a long solo hike through dangerous and unfamiliar territory, that it'd be funny). 13:37 I was so scared when you talked about getting your fury, and instantly relieved when you said "just kidding" like, I can't stress this enough, I absolutely LOVE Bowser Junior's Journey so much. 15:01 Dang, what a great verdict! I'm so glad you liked the remake! 16:12 I ask the same question, but I already know why. 19:03 And HERE is why Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Junior's Journey flopped. It was all NSMBU Deluxe's fault and that terrible Bowser wears the Super Crown meme and the Nintendo Switch fan elitism trying to force the 3DS to be dead. "Even Morton Koopa Junior would better at marketing" lol, true, one of the things that truly annoyed me was the fact that NSMBU Deluxe was released on the same day... when it had that awful Super Crown meme going on... 20:25 YES! THAT'S SO BASED! I, FOR THE LONGEST TIME, HAVE BEEN DESPISING NEW SUPER MARIO BROS U DELUXE FOR THE FACT IT WAS ALL THAT GAME'S FAULT FOR ALPHA DREAM GOING BANKRUPT AFTER BEING THE ONLY ONES TO ANSWER MY CALLS AND MAKE A GAME ABOUT THE KOOPALINGS THAT I'VE WANTED EVER SINCE 2009 WHEN I WAS INTRODUCED TO THEM! 21:13 SO BASED! Dang Demeech, that was a great video! I have to say I didn't expect it when I thought the NSMBW video was a bit... eh... and when you made the UA-cam short that I thought was a romhack of Mario Odyssey made on 64 DS, but instead, was just a short about Captain Toad 3DS's Odyssey stages and I got upset about it (I didn't realize you were the uploader) but man, great video!
sucks because it clearly wasn't a soulless remake, they added a lot of small details and made a lot of the areas prettier, even if the art style itself is inferior imo (Fawful's Castle immediately comes to mind) along with the boss tracks for the Dark Star and Dark Fawful
20:20 - you know... it all makes sense. The whole Peachette basically spawned the Bowsette memes, and because it was just just a port the Wii U titles [3d-world is sort of the same, but has online with its' main game], maybe if it had online multiplayer[if it does, I never played it], but unfortunately Nintendo wanted to show off Peachette, over a more developed character of Bowser Junior and the Koopalings. Doesn't help that people who hate seeing the Koopalings hate the VERY games that actually give them a personality. Mario and Luigi Paper Jam, and Paper Mario Color Splash to name a few. It's a shame Alphadream went out of business. Who knows, maybe Nintendo would... yeah no, they wouldn't revive the series. Nintendo rarely brings another series to have a new title. The Mother Series and F-Zero are stuck in Smash Bros Hell, I think Star Fox is in the same boat unless a new release is being made. Mario and Luigi is dead, and Pikmin was also in Smash Hell till the recent reveal of Pikman 4. So is it possible for a revival??? Maybe??? Yes??? No??? hard to say
I think this was basically alphadream being unable to adapt to the switch, along with the awful release day. Unlike Gamefreak however, they didn't have a sales guaranteer like pokemon and weren't at least on the new system. Alphadream held a knife to their neck and Nintendo drove it in and twisted it.
I think alphadream were caught between a rock and a hard place, after dream team it was very hard for Nintendo's third party developers to greenlight original characters, which is why paper jam resulted in being a bland mess. and as their ideas were already expended it probably resulted in them only being able to remake games with existing characters. even then superstar saga remake uses generic characters for the koopa troopas and the toads. Nintendo basically killed alphadream by stealth with this move. it's probably why paper Mario shifted to a more literal paper feel after super paper Mario adding bosses like inanimate stationary objects.
The worst part about this is that it wasn´t even a bad remaster it was actually good one. RIP AlphaDream and Mario and Luigi it was fun while it lasted
This is a cool remake, only issue is most people including me already had the original. Don't own this remake but my favorite change would probably be the after giant battle cutscenes. That train one tho, sheesh. Also prefer sprites for the characters (mainly Bowser) in the original but like backgrounds better in the remake.
Is for how much is unecesarry there a lot of factors behind it if it was launched to the switch or released before the 3DS' death it could have different reception as a whole
When I heard that this video was gonna have Demeech’s Maximum Fury, I thought you were gonna rant this game, but to my surprise, you didn’t. You actually gave a positive review on this game, and unleashed Maximum Fury on NSMBDX instead. So in the end, I gave this video a like, and I’m still subscribed to you
i definitely disagree with the visual presentation, game runs at 30 instead of 60 which is crazy since the original bowsers inside story runs at 60, and the art just lost the charm it had in the original, those sprites were so filled with life and expression, the remake they feel so much more generic and bland looking. Great video tho
To be fair to the game, it's likely the game didn't cause the end of the 3ds, when the 3ds lasted a bit longer than the usual lifespan. I think regardless if the game performed or not, Nintendo wasn't going to keep the 3ds going much longer.
Such a shame how this game sold poorly only because no one gave a damn about the 3DS months before. The 3DS was amazing and the remake was still fun to play, with all on the small screen so charming. We might have had a Partner in Time remake too which surprisingly everyone asked after the 3DS' death... this is a weird story. Thx for your coverage on this, maybe more people will play it, og or remake. Looking forward in the future if the new console (mix of switch and ds, why not) gonna have some Mario and Luigi games as well, I really enjoy these games.
They should have released the game on the switch. I don't understand why they released the remake on the same device that you already play the origonal on....
Let's face it, their mistake was skipping over Partners in Time, and releasing it on the 3DS when they had the perfect opportunity to release it on the Switch, the 3DS platform was already at its peak yet they still did it and look what happen.
But damn it really seems like Nintendo wanted to get rid of AlphaDream

Alpha Dream never made the transition into 3D games. They had other projects that fell through, including one by ForwardWorks. AD fell into debt and had to shutter. Nintendo didn't do anything

Hopefully Mario+Rabbids will fill the void.
Paper Mario change because another reasons
Oh boy, Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam.
Dream Team sell about 50% less but very good enough. Paper Jam bareky hit 1m by the end of the 3ds lifetime.

It absolutely did. That was the twist.

If it didn't have the damaging consequences, I wouldn't have minded it being on the 3DS so much. But I agree!
Fawful was also in PiT, he was just demoted to a shop merchant and I think the Shroobs were a hidden secret boss fight in BiS?
I agree (you made an essay on Mario and Luigi, impressive)
I really dont like this remake but I gotta say, the story of bowser jr journey is the best story we got last decade from any mario rpg including dream team, it explores jr. and the koopalings characters in ways we had never seen before, and the way he goes through an arc to discover that he was dickhead to them is just so cool, we havnt had an arc like that in the mario rpgs for a while now
I know right! The story of Bowser Junior‘s journey is literally the best Mario story we’ve gotten since super paper Mario or at the very least in years and it sucks because barely anyone talks about it
Agreed
They said Link's Awakening on Switch was originally a 3DS title. But after Bowser's Inside Story, the plans changed to release Link's Awakening on Switch.
That could've been true, but it was revealed only a month after this game launched
that game dodged a nuke right there
That explain the miniature Link on this one.
There’s no way that could’ve been possible given how long it takes to make a game.
- Noah
A game like this deserves fury for Nintendo itself, for basically putting it out to die, and actively trying to kill Alpha Dream.
how did they killed it when people did not want to support it at all? is more the case of the consumers part where it failed and tiny bit on nintendos part for not just buying alpha dream when they had the chance
At least it's finished.
@@Yoshizuyuner you do realize some were still buying 3ds games regardless of what the internet says
10:14 Who’s gonna tell him?
Now THAT is quite the ending comment lol.
There is already a built-in difficulty mod in the original though: the challenge medal, which increases the HP of all bosses and enemies by 50% and doubles the damage they do (if I can remember correctly, it might have also been a 50% increase but I think it was double) whenever you have it equipped.

@@sirmarcusplierthethird-sto5146 Well, I did hear rumors of M&L games are getting ported to the Switch.
Bowser Junior's Journey was honestly the best part of this remake. Main game giant battles were improved. Bosses like Junker and Dark Star were reasonable, Skippable tutorials, skippable minigames, Dark Star and Dark Fawful feel like unique bosses with their own unique theme, etc.. all of that was the good the game brought
The bad: No easy way for infinite beans, main boss theme still doesn't work when Bowser fights the boss, Dark Fawful still has that annoying as hell attack that failure to counter can nearly cause you to die, there isn't much of a challenge in the game, retry clocks are replaced by "try again with Easy Mode?", When going through the side story, Bowser Junior's Journey, it actually opens up a plothole that actually makes the Toads the villains.
Someone clearly never did the Gauntlet
Actually the weirdest part is the fact it released like right after Christmas in Japan, like why not like even just a few days earlier if it was already a finished game by that point?
I did have some issues: the biggest one is they nerfed some of the special attacks. In the original, Magic Window could be used infinitely if you didn’t mess up. It was a late-game, “git gud” move. Now, you will get to keep going if you mess up, and will have a finishing move as well.
I didn’t like that aspect of it at first, but I think it was a good change in retrospect. It was a really broken attack in the original and if paired with the Falling Star, it rendered every boss pretty much null and void.
they made the star attack easy to use now though
@@Menacetosociety05 I mean it’s broken if you’re really really really really good at keeping up with the speed and timing of the attack (which I’m willing to bet most people wouldn’t be able to tbh lol, even as an young adult I can’t keep up at a certain point)

The Mario and Luigi games are amazing I wish we could get another on the Switch
guess what
i really wish nintendo didn't screw over alphadream
i made so many memories with this series
E3 2009 is up there too
Nintendo didn't destroy anything. Alpha dream is an independent company
For real. I think if they made the remake for switch it would have sold way better. I mean lets be real by the time this game came out everyone was used to HD resolution and had no interest to play on a 3ds. Also the switchs motion controls and touchscreen would have been perfect to remake the mini games
For a maximum fury you would have thought he would at least drop the f bomb at least once
guess what they announced at the Nintendo direct
the reason PiT didn't get remake and instead BIS was probably because at this point alphadream was already in debt and was basically in panic mode, so in a last ditch effort made a remake of their best selling game to try and stay afloat
I still don’t know how Nintendo thought this was a good idea to release this game on the 3DS, a basically dead console at the time.
Gotta give Demeech huge props for giving the game credit than just being an unnecessary game.
AntDude, take notes.
All I have to say is that we need more playable Bowser.
I think it rather destroyed the entire Mario & Luigi RGP franchise. Man, I miss this series so much...
For real it’s been so long since this series returned with a new installment
It can still come back you know, have some hope!
ITS COMING BACK LETS GO
@@sirmarcusplierthethird-sto5146YOUR HOPE WAS ANSWERED
Of course one can emulate the both of them on phones today, but it just doesn't work nearly as well as the real hardware
this remake is excellent. its literally one of the best remakes they've ever done
Nintendo or AlphaDream?
@@Demeech Nintendo
this video genuinely makes this game seem like the gaming equivalent of treasure planet. it hurts, it hurts in the same way. :/

**RUNNING COMPANIES IN MERGERS**
(Not a stellar opinion, but hey.)
Then the remakes.
The OG artstyle is classic, instant quality.
18:05 everyone always forgets Yo-kai Watch 3 😞
In Japan, it was released in December 2018. The same month that Smash Ultimate released.
Demeech's Maximum Fury be like: **Constantly pressing the lower volume button**
I find it weird how Mawful Mole was the only Fawful themed enemy to get a major redesign in the remake, since the other Fawful themed enemies have consistent designs.
I saw your username and icon and want to say I have a plush of monty mole
@@bewearstar9462 Cool.
Honestly quite confused we didn't get New Super Mario Bros. Switch.
Maybe??? Yes??? No??? hard to say
Good news, now we just have to hope Brothership turns out good.
I want a Mario & Luigi on switch. Too bad it'll never happen.
This game was put out to die.
The 3D Bowser looked more like bowser than the sprite, also I prefer the bowser design from the DS version
20:10 "I have fury"
You sounded like Fawful for a moment right there
they should have bet for a Partners In Time remake instead....
When even Patrick Star can make better marketing decisions than a big-name, billion-dollar videogaming company.
If Demeech was in smash, he's final smash would be he's maximum fury
17:43 Demeech's Fury
19:13 Demeech's Maximum Fury
The worst part about this is that it wasn´t even a bad remaster it was actually good one. RIP AlphaDream and Mario and Luigi it was fun while it lasted
This is a cool remake, only issue is most people including me already had the original. Don't own this remake but my favorite change would probably be the after giant battle cutscenes. That train one tho, sheesh. Also prefer sprites for the characters (mainly Bowser) in the original but like backgrounds better in the remake.
You might wanna get it before the price skyrockets
@@Demeech I like this remake but I think you was way harsh man
I wish this came out on switch instead, at that point I was done with 3ds and wanted games for my switch
Then why is bis 3ds considered max fury if it’s not a bad game but rather the marketing?
Is for how much is unecesarry there a lot of factors behind it if it was launched to the switch or released before the 3DS' death it could have different reception as a whole
I don't care what anyone says, I still love this remake.
When I heard that this video was gonna have Demeech’s Maximum Fury, I thought you were gonna rant this game, but to my surprise, you didn’t. You actually gave a positive review on this game, and unleashed Maximum Fury on NSMBDX instead. So in the end, I gave this video a like, and I’m still subscribed to you
Every single Mario&Luigi game is good you just have to learn to appreciate them for what they are, yes even paper jam
i definitely disagree with the visual presentation, game runs at 30 instead of 60 which is crazy since the original bowsers inside story runs at 60, and the art just lost the charm it had in the original, those sprites were so filled with life and expression, the remake they feel so much more generic and bland looking. Great video tho
its pretty sad they aren’t gonna be made anymore, most likely, but it was my favorite series .
To be fair to the game, it's likely the game didn't cause the end of the 3ds, when the 3ds lasted a bit longer than the usual lifespan. I think regardless if the game performed or not, Nintendo wasn't going to keep the 3ds going much longer.
The end of alphadream, we'll miss those fuckers.
Also, at this point, each type of Demeech's fury is a stage of Super Saiyan
This video got more views then the game got sales, I bought the game but it’s a shame it flopped
