    I purchased this knife a few months ago based on the best edc knife for $60 from amazon and civivi qubit was number 1. By far its been my favorite and for EDC. Also the cool thing about it too is the pocket clip swap to left pocket carry. win win for me!

    I purchased the elementum 2 a month ago. I noticed I kept flicking my thumb as if it had a thumb stud. The reason why I got it was because of the button lock. I came across this knife yesterday my first reaction was a Celtic vibe with the green and the blade design the bottle opener comes in handy as well. this is a great knife looking forward to getting it tomorrow

      Congrats! It’s a great alternative to the Elementum!

    Agree on using as a base. They made an Elementum and Native baby with the best button lock currently going. Switch up steels, colors, and add a crossbar lock version. Will sell like crazy.

      The new WE version looks great! I think they might have been listening… 😳😱😆

    Thanks for the cool video. I really don't like the bottle opener. It may be a nit-pick but it is a deal breaker for me. I hate gimmicks like that.

    • @adoseofdrew
      @adoseofdrew  8 місяців тому

      Never used it as one. Never saw Civivi advertise it as one either.
      The only people I’ve seen advertising that a a gimmick were the knife channels.
      I’d love to see any official Civivi ads that call it out like that.
      The WE version doesn’t have it either.
      Thanks for watching! 👍🏼🙏🏼🖖🏻

    How is the toughness & corrosion resistance with Damascus? I had the chevalier with it but sold it. Wasn’t sure about it’s properties

    • @adoseofdrew
      @adoseofdrew  Рік тому +3

      This might be a long answer. I’ve found the toughness to be close to 9Cr18. No chipping even with the thinner blade and the ease of cutting helps add to wear resistance. It’s not quite 14C28N, but close to VG-10 and some other kitchen-knife steels. The oxide coating on the darkwash Damascus hasn’t let me down yet. I have at least 3 other Civivi’s with the pattern-welded stuff and no complaints. They tend to get used on food a lot (especially my Anthropos) with zero marking. The molecular barrier the oxide makes is as stout as the normal chromium oxide that makes most stainless steel “stainless”. While I’d like to see a composition change to their standard mix, it gives about 440C edge retention with 440B toughness and corrosion resistance at least on par with M390. It’s basically the steel Global knives sells in their kitchen knives. The corrosion resistance is pretty high, the thin geometry really takes advantage of the steel, and I’ve yet to experience ANY corrosion-related problems with the steel. 🙂👍🏼🙏🏼🖖🏻

    Thanks for the review. That blade is very slicey! How quickly do you think the aluminum will show wear on these? I don't mind wear but some knives seem to show up more quickly than others.

    • @adoseofdrew
      @adoseofdrew  Рік тому +1

      In my experience it takes some significant impact or abrasion. I’ve put visible, but still minor, scratches on some other aluminum handles. The anodizing seems to be of high quality. Not as forgiving as G10, but still pretty tough. Bouncing it off the sidewalk or other hard surface will mar the surface up, but that’s true of most handle materials. 👍🏼🙏🏼🖖🏻

    I think Civivi said their Damascus chemical composition is very similar to 9cr18mov, but It exhibits properties closer to 440c not 14c28n like you stated in the video.
    I wish their Damascus steel performance was closer to
    14c28n instead of 440c🤷.
    Not that 440c is bad it actually has better edge retention than 14c28n, but I prefer 14c28n for other reasons.
    I guess it really doesn't matter because anything Civivi makes is going to perform well because they do decent heat treatments unlike some other Chinese knife manufacturers.

    • @adoseofdrew
      @adoseofdrew  Рік тому +2

      The stated composition has been of 9Cr18 and something equivalent to VG-10. While testing the steels shows a significant toughness advantage for 14C28N, in practice I’ve found little a 14C28N blade can do that a 9Cr18 blade can’t. In a large blade with lots of impact or off-center loading it might be more significant, but with daily things like hitting a staple while cutting boxes, I’ve found little difference. I don’t use my pocketknives for wedging out pieces of wood or much else like that. Both steels chip if I drop them on concrete. I feel the same about wear resistance. 9Cr18 may have a slight edge (pun intended) but in real life the difference between 500mm and 650mm in a CATRA test is approximately 6 inches in real-life. That’s the same box as far as most of my chores go. With lower carbon content 9Cr18 and VG-10 have good corrosion resistance.
      I’m more interested in manufacturers using the greater toughness to have thinner blade stock and get more edge-retention from that instead of maintaining the same stock thickness and behind-the-edge thickness myself. When the steel performs so closely on standardized tests, things like heat-treatment and geometry play much bigger parts in the overall performance. I like 14C28N more for certain reasons also. Good heat-treat on 154CM is possibly my favorite “budget” steel. The toughness and wear-resistance testing data is close enough for me. I like kitchen knives out of 9Cr18 and 14C28N for a lot of reasons that are similar.
      In the end, when 14C28N is cheaper, I still think it’s very much a personal choice. I really wanted the green handle more than the damascus steel. I’m likely going to buy the 14C28N versions that match my wardrobe. It’s a great knife that really utilizes the steel properties to punch above its specs. 😎👍🏼🙏🏼🖖🏻

    Funny you compared the native to it because everything you pointed out is why I am getting a Qubit. I am a native fan, had one before, need a new knife but can't afford the new natives.
