Watch 'Pipeline' Moe Norman own his golf swing in this can’t-miss ball-striking demo from a video originally produced in 1995. You'll witness one of Moe’s most entertaining exhibitions where he calls his golf shots, teaches his master move and leaves spectators laughing.
The simple golf swing mechanics of Moe Norman's Single Plane golf swing-similar to that of Bryson DeChambeau's swing-has led PGA Tour Legends like Tiger Woods, Lee Trevino, Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, Tom Watson, and others to call Moe the 'World's Greatest Ball-Striker"-as someone who truly owned his swing. As the legacy of Moe Norman becomes more widely known, he continues to inspire golfers worldwide to play with his one plane golf swing for a bio-mechanically correct motion that relieves stress on the back, making solid impact for increased distance off the tee, and helping golfers experience what Moe called the "Feeling of Greatness."

the sound of impact is virtually identical ball after ball after ball.. It’s just beautiful
A genius practicing his craft and showing it to the world!
To be able to strike a golf ball right in the sweet spot over and over again had to be pure joy to Moe. I can see why he hit 4 million balls over his life time as he never hit a bad one. Who the hell gave this a thumbs down man you got some nerve!!
God bless Titleist for helping this man out. Extraordinary person and story.
@@dr6124 they gave him 5 grand a month as a retainer... for being him.
@@KKSuited I believe they paid him and called him a "brand ambassador"..
Yes, I agree. It makes me respect the Titleist people for doing that.
One of my Fave Moe videos ever . He is so jovial here . I bought this on VHS years ago . Pipe line Moe .
Moe was the real deal I know I've tried the single plane golf swing I'm trying to change from my old swing I'm 69and hope to play for 10 more the swing is for seniors effortless I think
This is the best sounding Moe video by far. The sound of the ball striking and people's reaction to it is incredible. This also has his best commentary and insight into what he was doing. When the lady asks him to tell them where he's hitting before he swings is truly amazing.
"I didn't come out here to hit the tee, I came to hit the golfball" 😂😂😂 Savage, and completely correct!!
How about the lady told Him to hit over the red flag. He smashes it and says “now be quiet”. Lmao
I've owned a copy of this footage for years and can comfortably say that of all of the recordings out there of Moe hitting golf balls this is my absolute favorite. It's a "loop" of him, in perfect form, knocking the poop put of every single ball AND giving a running commentary that is so funny/playful/revealing. Todd G has mentioned the 'sound' of Moe's ball/club face contact as being distinctive to no others - I couldn't agree more. Really good stuff. It never gets old.
8:45 is a sound I've heard in a different context. Yet, totally understandable and appropriate in this situation as well.
Complete & utter genius...
That sound of impact!! Wow!!
Amazing amount of speed with hardly any takeaway is simply impressive. Moe "The Machine" Norman could make his arms simply spring velocity through impact. Just goes to show you, you don't need all this stuff taught today to strike a golf ball well. Another great video from the Graves team and one I had not seen. Many thanks!
Exactly easy swing which people can learn and have fun, eliminating a lot of so called instructors lol
@@salagro5423 Just Pull hard like Moe.
He is still creating excellent clubhead speed. So his technique is still getting a tremendous loading up of power, then a very smooth transition/weight shift.
I owe Moe Norman a huge thanks that without his fantastic golf swing videos, I would never understand how the legendary golf greats of old and new schools played golf with ease and consistency! Moe Norman inspired me to never let up to unveil his “secret” he brought into his grave, of which “secret” he just had shown but without telling it! Huge thanks indeed to Moe Norman that now I treasure his golf legacy I shared with Lydia Ko, Charley Hull and some others who are now golfing better than their old rookie amateur complex swings even bringing them back to the winner’s circle ⭕️! Lydia Ko got back to No. 1, Charley Hull regained back her winning streak, Lucy Li and Lilia Vu join the race to make more LPGA titles 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
Do you know those players or did I miss understand?
Anyway, if you would describe the most important parts if Moe's golf swing secrets, as you have understood them, what would that be?
I would be very interested in what you think.
Kind regards, S
Worlds greatest ball striker of all time. Hands down.
The sound of these strikes is outstanding…
I jus recently started golf found this guy and cant stop going down this rabbithole this is just wild
What a unique man. Definitely full of confidence!
This is my favorite video of Moe. It shows the shots goin down range, straight as an arrow. Incredible! That sound too
Every time I watch Moe I realize all over again what a genius he was..unbelievable talent. Thank you Todd Graves for sharing Moe with the world..
Love all of Moe’s videos. A mix of Moe Norman and Moe Howard. Can’t beat the display of expert ball striking mixed in with the comedic humor.
I saw Moe do an exhibition at our Golf Course in 1990 he put a rope down the driveing range and proceeded to hit drivers at it.
Every Drive was either on the Rope or an inch or two to the side it was absolutely incredible you wouldn't think it was even possible
I could watch all night. Brilliant
A genuine people person. MUCH LOVE MOE.
Thanks Todd for running this for us
I love the way Moe 'sings' when he talks. When asked what his magic move was he replied, 'My vertical drop, horizontal tug....a feeling of greatness', as he says in another one of the videos of Moe.
Autistic
Nice to finally see the full version of this clip. Thanks!
What a happy man!
Thanks for posting this exhibition. His swing beginning at around interval 11:53 was especially edifying in that it palpably depicts what I call Moe's "melody"...his one-of-a-kind combination of grace, efficiency, power, sequence, etc. It really can't be adequately described but it can be pursued and at least occasionally experienced. And when I say swing, it includes how he sets up to the ball, which I'm finding to be critical in pursuing his melody. For example, watch the way he gently and rhythmically extends his left arm just before takeaway in a faint rocking motion. This move sets the tone for the left arm's (the "rod's") key lever-like role in the takeaway, during the "horizontal tug," and on through impact. His exquisite melody allows him to simply lash or "pipeline" through the ball with the back of his left forearm and hand. I believe Moe had the best two-handed back hand in all of sports.
and Moe was left handed, which likely helped with this.
God bless this gentle soul. Many have missed what Moe gave to golf. 50's 60's 70's & 80's....we missed so much. 41 course records? Those who ridiculed him must be so proud, he didn't quite fit the mold, shameful. Super Mex said Moe would have cleaned up on the tour if someone had taken him under their wing. :( No one did. He returned home. (to setting pins). Perfect example of how KINDNESS wins every single time, every time..... 'boing'...he could hit it 280 on a rope, in his sleep. No one close.
what a massive powerful strike at 6:00 when asked to hit hard. He used heavy clubs, but with a light modern driver, he would have hit it long, really very long.
Just stunning...
The one and only Moe I can watch this over and over again just love it the classic case keep it simple
I have this video on VHS . Ha ha . Had to go out and buy a VHS player to watch it .
I think the real secret to moes consistent swing is what I've actually never heard him mention (at least in the videos I've seen of him) is the tucked right elbow throughout the swing, him and Hogan do it virtually identical to each other
This is my favorite Moe video.. he was really having fun with his audience!
what an inspiring legend. we need a graves golf in every state!
you got it with this video ichabod.
I’ve heard Moe in several exhibitions talk about betting on holes or specific shots. Not sure if he went high stakes or not. (With that cash roll in his pocket).
But talk about the ultimate hustler. Lol all he had to do is shank a couple on purpose, start running his mouth and then “Boing”. Lol I love these videos
Moe Norman was not a high stakes golf gambler. Read Tim O' Connors book and do some research.
6:45 - Just listen to the sound of these 2 shots in row. He is putting a hurtin' on those balls!
When you watch the slowed down drive... you can actually see he and hogan are in the same ball park of model swing and striking the ball. Its the same relative motion of the legs leading letting them get behind the ball and maximizing that drive thru. It's really amazing to watch.
TOO BAD HE'S NOT ON TOUR TODAY. GOD BLESS HIM
Shot routine:
1. Look at target
2. Place club-face and lead foot
3. Place trail foot
4. Look at target and waggle
5. Execute perfect golf swing
6. BOING! 0:18
Number 5 is the magic.
6. funny comment after the shot
@@varuukmusic Boing!
@@rimcountryoutfitters 😆
Best who has ever held a club, no one close.
He is 65 and smashing it like pro on tour today . listen to the impact .
Right, only how many on Tour hit it 350 straight? Not very many at all, and None are 65 that do hit it even close to 350! Not to mention the technology of todays clubs vs what moe used in his days! There's no comparisons today! Only 1 comes close is Bryson Dechambeau...coincidence he swings on single plane too!
SurprizedDaily when moe says 350 he ain’t actually hitting anywhere near 350
@@danielkirkland3366 Moe used to hit his driver 220 to 250 in his later years. But I think it is the purity of the strike, hitting the ball dead centre and head on strike which produces the sound rather than sheer clubhead speed.
@@danielkirkland3366 Hes hitting around 280 when he unleashes but they can go slightly astray . Hes hitting 240 normally which is probably just below tour average . For context today . Bryon was beaten by Bernhard Langer . Bryson out drove him by 100 yards evey time . Its more about accuracy than distance and Moe had that .
“The companies would all go broke. Nobody would have a driver.” Greatest golf quote ever.
I have watched mo for a long time and have thought alot about his swing... I think it was great muscle memory and a bet mo was darn strong.
That sound! 🥰
Thanks for sharing this Todd, I am quite simply in awe. If he got half the pleasure hitting that I get watching him then he was a lucky man. But it’s ruined it for me watching PGA golf on TV - boring now.
15:00 Old Lady: “Hit it over that red one monkey”
Moe: Rolls eyes, bangs it on the red flag 🚩. “There… Now be quite”
😆 love this guy. Last of a generation. Best of his time. If not all of time. 🙏
My opinion on the toughest club question answer is this. Believe he was referring to toughest to master as you can produce so many shots from one club. Obviously a full 4 iron for the average golfer is harder to hit for a amateur golfer and you can play it down or high, draw or fade. Second thought is Moe often stated the wedge is the club that reduces your score if hit properly. ie, bogeys into pars, pars into birdies. If average golfers worked on wedge shots from 100 and in and 5 foot putts they would turn into very good amateurs.
Grip pressure thumb and forefinger, not choking with other 3 fingers, push down the clubshaft towards the club head face, pushing power,
“God bless Titleist for helping this man out.”
A lovely comment. By coincidence l use Titleist
balls all the time in the world where all top-quality balls are much the same. It is for this single, simple reason that I use this company’s balls……see above.
what a great man he was rip mo.
People say Adam Scott has the most asthetically looking swing.. I say Moe does. Todd is genius to bring this swing to the public. Much thanks to you!
Let’s be clear about something...Todd Graves is a great instructor who brought the genius of Moe Norman to the “American” public. In Moe’s native Canada, he was highly regarded as one of golf’s GREATEST ball strikers for decades before Americans had even heard of him. RIP Mr. Norman...
What a lovely man.
What i've noticed from Moes' swing compared to every modern golfer and how it's taught now is just how far his hands are reaching out toward the golf ball whereas modern day teachings are to let your hands fall underneath your shoulders.
This really is as simple as Mo says it is. I'm one million balls into my mastery of it and now playing off 18.
Absolute machine.
Yeah but bat shit crazy 😄😄
@@eddiestevens3220 nah. Probably top 1 % of Sanity , especially compared to today humans.
Great very interesting good video.
I am yet surprised he plays the club so far away from the body?
And in another video from another angle that I just saw, he seemed to go 'a little back and forth' with his body during the swing (looked a bit strange to me). Also he does unusually short swings? Certainly different from Ben Hogan swing (especially with the club and arms that far away from the body).
But whatever he is doing, it seems to work! And amazing (and unusual) sound every time he hits the ball!
Just that sweet thwack sound...🔥🔥👍
Funny his feel vs. real, but I could listen to those solid strikes for hours.
The secret of his swing is straight back and straight down the line. No turning inside . He follows railroads track Concept.
No, he says inside to inside
@@og3og80 it’s not a concept...
Sorry but no you are incorrect. Golf is a side on game, there is no such thing as straight back straight through.
No words
At no point is all of Moe Norman's arms in a single plane. At the start during the swing setup, only his forearm is in-plane with the golf club. His arms are about as straight as can be achieved given how you're hands must grip the club.
The remainder of his swing motion is shallow on the backswing and only finally in-plane on the downswing just prior to striking the ball. It follows a thin looping motion backwards and then forwards.
Admittedly, his swing setup is as flat or flatter and in-plane than any swing yet devised, but it cannot be said to be truly in-plane like a robot golfing machine. His clubs intersect his chest while his arms are in a different plane, (slightly angled at about +25°) relative to the club.
There are several videos where his clubs are traced with a marker and they clearly show a varied multi-plane motion different from the backswing thru to the downswing.
Great
Love the comments from crowd. You can tell they are amazed.
Moe's swing is like the robot, just back and through. Amazing how straight those balls come off of the club face.
If all the pros use Moe's single plane swing, tournament rounds would be cut down by an hour. Just get up there to the ball and whack it straight.
...But then their game, playing from the rough, would deteriorate since they would rarely be shooting out of the rough.
...Would also be a ton of golf teaching pros out of business. Players would not have to constantly be going back to their coach to correct flaws.
Too bad for the PGA tour that they ran him off the tour. He had the game to win majors, but they didn't want a guy with eccentricities and a gentle personality, and a guy to whom striking a golf ball was pure joy. But thankfully for Moe and the golfing world the Canadien tour accepted him and he was prolific up there.
I have recently begun to practice the SP swing, but i was wondering if my backswing is correct. When i am on top of the backswing, the buttom of my club i pointing towards the ball (or more like in the same line of the ball). Is this correct? Or is it too steep of an angle?

The Alchemist of the golf swing
Totally self-taught, he breaks every rule that golf pro's teach today. He combines single-plane and square-to-square, taking most of the variables out of the process. I have always wondered what kind of distance he got from his driver, and what he could do with the great drivers (and balls) they are selling now.

@@GravesGolf thanks for that, I am aware of them sending to our device, yet when subscribed to over 1000 channels, who has time to go watch every time a video gets posted & wants hundreds of notifications throughout the day coming into their phones? I used to religiously go through my emails when they were sent via Emails, the way youtube originally made the bell notification button to begin with! I still have videos saved neatly into folders named appropriately in my email....from 10 years ago, so I can go watch them still, anytime I like or want to! Up until August 13th, I'd get average of 3-500 emails daily from youtube alone! Does anyone know what make/model that driver is? I might try and get one if possible on eBay to replicate that sound with SPS
Moe uses M3 weighted clubs. I'm 65 with limited turn, should I?
Moe can walk the course with his head high.
How far was the house at the end of the range? Did he actually hit the house when he said he would?
There's no pre shot routine, no drenching long set up time. Easy, repeatable, consistent swing. All dead straight.
I wish we could all play at a pace like Moe and Matt Jones
Now be quite! 😂😂😂 3 hole in one's in a single round... Wow what a guy.
hands and club goes to right shoulder,,,,club is severly open coming into ball,,,,,,,,left thumb leads grip over target
Almost as impressive as his genius ball striking was his energy, he's pounding these balls out at a fierce rate, most of us would have been in a gasping mess after five minutes.
What was moe,'s distances
Moe said his swing was simple don't put too much on it
Positively simple. His one move not discussed is right there in front of you. Hogan did it also.
AT 7-48, He MOE answers a question "hitting a ball out of bounce" he replies 8 years ago.. .some guy in the back ground tells a lady 10 years ago >>>LOL
Truly said he did appear to be autistic and quite eccentric unfortunately that didn't cut it back in the fifties.
He would certainly be a welcome addition today.
Wait a minute.... is Moe saying "350" as in 350 yards? I thought he only drove the ball about 250 yards?
8:45 Grandma like.
😆
Wouldn't get it round these days. Club head speed is so slow. Basically just blocks every shot straight like a defensive cricket shot.
I once owned 7 minutes to better golf. That was Moe Norman as Moe Norman.
I've lost it in all my travels in the Military.
My only regret to this day.
Learn how to shallow that club like Moe and any swing will work.
70 holes in one!? 17! 70? No no, 17! 70!?
strong as a Bull
“Like pushing a button”
Some guy in the back ground says >>> "you ain't going to learn that swing right away"...Actually its the easiest to learn
8:16
How far was he driving i wonder?
he tells the crowd he's going to hit the 350 marker.....@ 65.....not but a few of todays Tour players hit that far & their clubs have 30+ years of "new" supposed technology in them! And only 1 out there today hits that far & Straight both....Bryson Dechambeau......who also btw, swings on a single plane! But nah, there's nothing to the single plane according to 99% of the instructors & players out here ?
350 yrds? I highly doubt that much lol
Why are these people asking him such stupid things and not taking time to just observe and learn? I guess it was entertainment for them instead of an opportunity to get better themselves.
I'm glad they're asking as it gives us a chance to hear Moe's comments, observe his attitude and confidence and sheer joy in being out there doing what he loves best and that is also part of what he is teaching
Just shows you that swing technique is total bollox. Moe is a machine of accuracy
moe's not from this realm
If you truly believed in Moe, then why would you try to steal his swing and profit from it? Why not allow anyone who wants to do so?
That’s what he’s doing. He’s posting the video for everyone to watch
