Heyyy friend! So it actually depends. On average, I suction anywhere between three to five times during the day, and once or twice overnight. Any more than that is usually a sign that I am developing pneumonia or some other infection. I also monitor the color of my secretions as well. My breathing is very minimal during suctioning, which is why we try not to stay down in my lungs for too long. Sometimes, if I need a break, I will signal to whoever is suctioning me to stop for a few minutes. It was much more difficult to tolerate in the beginning, but over the years, I’ve grown more accustomed to it, and I have been able to handle longer periods of suctioning. This was a great question.
