ABBA - Just a Notion (Original 1978 Version Recreation - Fixed V2)

NOTE: This video is a fix of an edit I did a few months ago. A viewer pointed out that I accidentally repeated a verse, so I've fixed that. I've also polished it up a bit more overall and fixed a few small things. In addition, to make a more faithful "1978" version, I've removed the last vocal line ("I think it's more than a notion"), which was likely added later.
This video is a recreation of ABBA's 1978 version of "Just a Notion." "Just a Notion" is a song originally recorded by ABBA in 1978 during the sessions for Voulez-Vous. It was ultimately scrapped at that time. A snippet of this original version was released on the Thank You For The Music box set in 1994, but was less than 2 minutes long.
In 2021, ABBA released their album Voyage, which included a version of Just a Notion with newly-recorded instrumentals. Curious to see what a completed 1978 version would sound like, I recently created this mix. I extracted the vocals from the Voyage version and coupled them with the instrumentals from the 1978 snippet. I had to loop a few parts of the snippet since it was too short, but I think the results are quite nice. Though I still prefer the Voyage version, this is a fun look at what could've been.

I prefer the vocal blend with Frida being more pronounced here than in the Voyage version, especially in the chorus.

By the way, there is another version done by ABBA cover band "Arrival" in 1999:

The voices never reach ABBA skills, of course, but I kinda like the arrangement and I think it has a great instrumental part in the middle from minute 2:00. Maybe it would be worth a try to dub the ABBA vocals over the playback of that version, just an idea 🤔.
