She doesn't have a clue what she is talking about! I've built several of these myself and I have about 20 years experience as a machinist! If you don't get everything just right, like within less than 2 hairs thickness, you just ruined it! If you go the thickness of 3 hairs to deep when milling the trigger well, you just went clear through and ruined it! If you lack 2 hairs thickness of going deep enough, the trigger group will not function! Then you also have the width of the trigger well! If not wide enough the trigger/hammer assembly won't go in, a few hairs thickness too wide and the trigger assembly will move sideways enough as to not work reliably!
I've seen numerous lower receivers ruined by people trying to mill it out with a dremel tool! I've also seen several ruined by people trying to mill them out by hand on a drill press!!
Like I said in the beginning, she has no clue what she is talking about!!
I've never milled one out in less than an hour!

Of course you're correct, but you don't need to be that accurate if you just want a functioning gun to go commit some crimes. I've seen the confiscated p80s out of Baltimore and they look like they were done by a caveman. I wouldn't trust him at all but they function fine for a few hundred rounds. The problem is that p80 made the Jigs and kits complete so anyone with a double-digit IQ could create a functioning gun even if it won't last very long. Your level of attention in detail is of someone who cares to make an item that will last and function well. And it probably wouldn't hurt you if the kit did not come with drill bits and the rest of the parts

And, that was way back when it was possible to buy upper and lower kits. I succeeded but not quickly. Then, there's the process of range testing to failure, getting better quality replacement parts, and restoring the weapon to functionality. Why do it. Because, now years later, I have a fun, reliable range toy that I assembled myself. Much like the satisfaction of restoring an old car or motorcycle.

Not even gonna lie, the stat of 100 or 1000% increase of the ghost guns being used in crimes is crazy. Not because it may be a lie or the truth but because it leaves out the figure of serialized firearms being used in crime.
If it’s close to a 1:1 in crime decreased by normal guns to an increase by 80% then the issue is still that criminals are easily getting guns. Banning the 80% wont make the crime go down. It’ll just make it less fun for the people that genuinely have a passion of building guns.
Imagine if instead of ways that people can buy and make guns, the ATF went after the people who are making or selling firearms to people who shouldn’t have them. Instead of limiting the ability of the common person to exercise their right they focused on their actual duty of locking up criminals who forgone their rights by being a bad actor in the world.

With my Bridgeport mill equipped with a DRO (digital readout), the proper tooling and the proper jigs, I spent well over an hour on an 80% lower, and I screwed it up. I milled out the cavity before drilling the trigger holes, so the bit walked on the far-side of the cavity.
Another thing they missed is that a hobbyist also derives pleasure from the finish work, such as anodizing, Cerecoating, engraving, laser etching, researching and testing various components, etc

I was a small arms repairman in the Army for 4 years. I've disassembled and reassembled more firearms than I even care to know. I've worked as a maintenance technician since I left the Army in 2010 and have plenty of experience with power tools. My first and only P80 took a few days (i wasn't really in any kind of rush) and never functioned properly. I wouldn't even attempt another one.

I absolutely did not buy an 80% kit in order to escape restrictions on a felon prohibition from guns. But the challenge is what interested me. And the government not having a say about what I put in my hand was a big, fat bonus. And yes, it took much longer than 15 minutes and quite a bit of refinement to make a reliable tool.
