I'm in a good shape and I try to balance my life and my passion for fitness and healthy nutrition. So if I have to choose between a biscuit or wine I choose wine because it gives me more joy! I think that if you are in track 80% of your time (90 in mine) a 10% of indulgence it's not so bad! It's a balanced life!
It’s balance with breaks for me. Each to there own, have lost 16 lbs over the past 10 months and did not cut out alcohol just planned it in like I did food. Great vlog xx🙏
Alcohol has become a real weakness for me, I drink daily, and I know it where my weight gain has come from. I find it so hard to cut it out, but this video has given me some good inspo. Even if I start by cutting it out for a time then reintroduce it in a healthier and more balanced way. Thanks, I needed this today. 💗
I love wine but don’t always love how it makes me sleep and feel the next day. I started drinking sparkling water in a wine glass. I don’t even miss the wine now. Cheers!
That's what I started doing since I started dry January and beyond. I rather do that than spend more money for those non alcoholic wines. I was a heavy drinking from my late teens through my early 30s. I decrease my alcohol intake tremendously once I married and started a family. I was no longer in a heavy drinking environment. Although I only drank on my off days and other occasions more recently, I really didn't like the disturbed sleep, dehydration and the anxiety I felt the day after.
I’m so happy that I never enjoyed drinking alcohol. I used to “cheat” at social events by leaving my glass around and drinking water instead, which felt so much better! Now I don’t care about what everyone else thinks: I want water, I drink water 😁
Cori I quit alcohol nearly 10 years ago for all of the reasons that you stated. Although I always realised that my drinking was doing me no good, it was my decision to begin serious fitness training that ultimately led me to quit. I was about 6 months into my training and going well but hit a wall due to my drinking.........I quit and got fit really quickly and have never looked back. Thank you for your always informative and inspiring videos. :)
Not to mention, NPR came out with a report that alcohol companies funded the studies that said red wine was good for you. Always follow the money and be sceptical when someone tells you poison is good for you.
It's crazy how many studies have been done by companies to validate their products that became accepted as truths...like breakfast being the most important meal of the day. Thanks Kellogg's haha
Let's not forget the dairy industry telling us that milk does a body good... or that 2011 study where the Nat'l Confectionor's Assoc (think Snickers, Skittles, etc) tried to tell us that children that ate sweets weighed less 😂😂
I mean, alcohol has some benefits compared to other alcohol options. But yes it's still a poison. Toxic that's what being drunk is. But yolo I'm getting litty this weekend
Good video. I've been sober for almost 2 years. The profound benefits this has offered to my running & training efforts are nothing short of astounding. I'm running distances and times like I was 10 years ago. I don't think I'll go back to drinking.
I don’t keep alcohol in the house. If I feel like a glass of wine I’ll buy a bottle on a Saturday and have a couple of glasses. I finish the remainder on Sunday. It’s balance for me. Different strokes for different folkes…
I've not commented for a little while, but I want to say I appreciate how you take the most current true science ( and not opinion) and show/explain how to put it into practice to achieve our goals. Everything is A+++. It's up to us to use it or dismiss it. I rarely drink. The workouts help me deal with stress in a better way than alcohol, and I don't need it on social occasions to have a good time. Thanks!
Great video! I've noticed that as I increase in age that my tolerance is much lower. I went to a party last night and had one small glass of bubbles (and tried to stay hydrated with water the rest of the time) and I woke up this morning not feeling so great. This video was posted at the right time for me!
Thanks for the video. In France, a glass of wine is culture when you meet up with families and friends. I had this guilty feeling that I had to really cut it off. Actually, as long as you know what you are doing and that it remains reasonable, it is fine.
Now I'm sitting here wondering if one of the reasons I had such quick results for any fitness program I did while breastfeeding or pregnant was because I wasn't drinking (as well as the additional calorie expenditure)
@@redefiningstrengthOC I've committed to taking the long view. I'm not dieting but committing to a new lifestyle... that includes alcohol from time to time. Slow and steady wins the fat loss race.
This video has given me a lot of information about how to start a sustainable weight loss because I have another health problem that requires alcohol. Thank you so much for this valuable information.
I drink only twice a week, and only on the weekends. Like from Friday nights to Sunday nights. But within my sport seasons I only do it from Saturday nights to Sunday nights.
Been teetotal for nearly 2 years now, the best thing I ever did, apart from giving up smoking!! Wouldn't say I wouldn't drink again but for now it suits not to. Plus, I've dropped 3 size on my trousers, so I'll think twice before I do start again...
Great video and one I needed to see. I'm in the middle of a one month challenge I gave myself to only drink alcohol outside my home. I started to question myself...do I really need to drink wine while sitting around at night watching tv? So here I am nearly three weeks gone and only drank on two social occasions outside and one drink at home because I forgot! 😂 Feeling good and thinking I'll keep it up for another month 😊
I'm not a drinker, but I use it in cooking. I have a small amount of what I use for cooking to see how it tasted. Thanks for telling the truth about using alcohol and weight and how it affects working out.
I have a rollercoaster relationship with alcohol. One time when I was really focusing on fitness I cut it out completely and lost 10 lbs in one month without counting calories to make sure I was in a deficit. I was only exercising 30 mins most day of the week without cardio, just some body weight stuff. Didn’t even miss my wine. Other times I have a drink almost every day. I’m torn between quitting completely, just like a did with coffee (I don’t miss it, I love my green tea), or going for a sustained balance.
There really is no right or wrong answer other than finding the balance that makes us feel best! And I think it's knowing that creating a "lifestyle" also does mean things will change over time. You may cut it out for a time...then decide you want to test out a drink once a week. Or you may decide you love never drinking and never go back. But the key is being ok with our lifestyle also adjusting as our needs and goals change!
Same boat as you as far as the debate to quit. I only drink on the weekends, then I sometime binge. A book I'm reading is really interesting. Its called Quit Like A Woman. So good. Good luck to you!
There is a great book called: Quit LIke a Woman: by Holly Whitaker. It puts some of our drinking habits in perspective. Some of the book is a bit too much for me, but many of the points made are things that are helping me cut way back before I decide if I am ready to give it up all together.
Mixers are diet killers (sugar) and wine or whatever your headache-inducing alcohol is; wine is high in sulfides I think it’s called and people with migraines next day def won’t feel good, like she said. Of course many people who have chronic migraines might work out to alleviate the possible symptoms. I use cardio as a way to alleviate stress/tension headaches.
I consume 2 bottles of wine a week. All of it happens Fri-Sun. During that time I am still in a deficit as those are by running days so I burn more calories. I am in a slight deficit the rest of the week also, ~200 calories. I feel that I am in pretty good shape for being 50 and even though I might not be gaining as much muscle as those wine calories should be replaced with protein calories, for example, my mind and body are in a happy place. I am about 5-8 and 170 pounds with a body fat of about 15% or so. Nice video as usual and thank you.
I prefer a nice, lower alcohol glass of wine (red or white). Though I am not a big drinker anyway, so it isn’t a big issue for me to just have a glass or two when out with friends. Many times I choose to be the designated driver, so it helps to not drink or, at the most, have 1-2 glasses of wine.
I've lost 90 pounds on keto over the last 4.5 months. I have kept everything the same, but experimented by having weeks with and without alcohol. I showed absolutely no difference in my weight loss. That's at no more than 2-3 drinks per day max. I will say this...if I drink after 8-9 pm, that makes a difference in my sleep and alertness the next day.
It really depends. If you're an athlete then yeah you wanna take an aware decision on how you intake alcohol at a certain point and time. Many of my friends drink beer but forget to eat or beer and food are not really good friends for some people causing to lessen your eating frequency. My grandpa was a whisky and he managed to keep low weight and he ate a lot. I've noticed drinking affect your eating frequency it depends on your socializing lifestyle like my folks. Thanks for the info.
I love this. Unfortunately I love wine so now I can’t bring a bottle home. What’s helped me is a single kombucha beer at only 3 grams of natural occurring sugar. NOVA is the best.
I like seltzers, I use a flavored non sweetened sparkling low sodium soda and gin or vodka. I drink on my non workout days but still get in my steps and a light stretch. I count it as 7 cals per gm under fats. I can lose or maintain as long as I don't eat ultra processed or late at night.
Balance is the key......I love a beer or two with a meal (but I eat healthy). I dont drink just to drink.....plus, I have made it to 68 and life is short so your right, indulge a little! Blessings
I have a weakness for beer. Good beer, not industrial standardized dishwater, you know, the thick craft products of small breweries that do little volume but with high quality ingredients. Those tend to be very high in empty calories, and working in a pub that serves only craft beers, I'm kinda doomed. Well, I learned to balance. I allow myself only ONE pint on a saturday night, because Saturday is usually the busiest day and the owner of the pub usually holds a small staff meeting with free food and beer after closing time(most of the time I work in the kitchen, so I can make my own food too). I haven't gained a pound since I started working there. On the contrary, I'm losing weight because I'm constantly bustling around between the kitchen and the tables, taking orders and bringing food and drinks to customers. In addition, I still maintain a good workout routine split between weights and running days. Moderation is the key!
A surprisingly lovely cocktail i enjoy, light on the system and tastes fab...over ice, (i use a classic whiskey glass) a measure vodka Quater measure white vinegar 10 stevia drops Little salt Topped with mineral water, Garnish You could experiment with the vinegars and spirit. Using juice of one lemon with stevia makes a lovely sour ... lengthen it with fizzy water.
We have a Mexican restaurant we go to every Thursday night. I limit myself to one margarita on rocks with no salt. That is my drinking for the week. If there is a special occasion such as a birthday or wedding, I will limit myself to one drink then too.
Love this channel! I get so many tips for my training sessions & admire your honesty. I am not a big alcohol fan I don’t like the sleepy out of control feeling or the need to devour bread or the horrendous “death” feeling the following day. I get awful hangovers & would prefer to have a few glasses of something and eat a nice meal than devour bottle of wine (yuck!) and be incoherent & lose a whole day feeling rough🤢
In the very beginning I cut out alcohol completely for a few months and that was 14 months ago. It is my birthday month and have relaxed on my calories and drinking. Since I have been drinking more I noticed that I bloat more, retain water, and my skin gets worse. This weekend will be my last drink until Christmas. I like to have a shot of tequila or vodka straight. I try to stay a way from mixed drinks since they add extra calories. My favorite all time drink is water. Balance is key for me.
Wow. The timing of this video is crazy. I have been debating quitting alcohol for some time, especially after Friday night! No.1, I don't recover well anymore. No. 2, I want to lose 10 lbs and I know I need to cut it out of my lifestyle. Thanks for the push. Also if anyone has issues with drinking, there's a great book called How to quit like a Woman. 🙏

Don't drink often (0-2 times per month) but my choice is usually a bloody Mary, wine, or a beer. A couple times a year I will have a margarita or a martini.
It does something. Sometimes seems to prevent weight loss and simulate royalty feel bloated and dehydrated from a drink. I think it is unpredictable. It’s a hard call I notice that I don’t often enjoy drinking alone and when I am around other drinkers I want a drink and when I am with people who don’t drink I generally don’t miss it. I wonder how much of drinking is just social conditioning and that social stimulation something about it produces dopamine
Would you possibly considering doing a video about losing weight while on meds like steroids? I am steroid dependent for life (Addisons disease- secondary) and even on maintenance doses weight gain is an issue. Steroids cause changes in how we break down carbs, insulin resistance, slow metabolism etc. I recently started counting macros and trying to really eat healthier especially since I can't be super active due to my health but I find myself terrified of carbs since I've been seeing that the ONLY way to lose weight on these meds is by going low carb (which I can't do. I'm trying to stick with about 125g carbs a day and no more than 1400 cals a day). Most of my carbs come from healthy foods like fruits/veg/oatmeal. I'd love to see your take on situations like these.
My main drinks are water, coffee, tea, and, sometimes, Gatorade (it was 91 degrees on the tennis court yesterday and I drank 32 ounces). I have the Asian Genetic problem where my body does not metabolize alcohol well so alcohol makes me very uncomfortable. I typically drink no more than one ounce per year. I actually don't understand why people drink alcohol.
Gave up on that years ago and it was the best call I've made. Still I agree with some benefits of alchool in small doses of course. However Cory for stress and self fulfillment I recommend meditation, it helped me a lot 😉.
Glad you found a balance. And I think it's key we remember we can find fun and fulfillment in so many things and they are all just different. I find fulfillment making these videos even :-)
are there certain alcohol that is less sugary and less calories that would be better than say a sangria which is a lot more sugar than a gin and tonic? Is vodka more recommended than say tequila?
It's just an anecdote but a dude in the locker room at yoga asked me "how do you stay so lean?" and the first thing I thought to say was " well...I don't drink". It's called a beer belly for a reason.
I love grapes - the kind you eat off a vine;) Wild ones are the best. In the summer, if you put grapes in the freezer, they become an even more refreshing treat. Yum. 🍇
I love your channel.. Are kettlebell exercises good for someone who had cervical spine herniated disc 6-7 or should I just stick with looped bands only? Thank you
I used to drink either before or after nights out. I would do leg days hung over simply to challenge myself. I probably even smelled like booze but never realized it (much more apparent to people who don't drink). I found I could train hard but saw very minimal gains. I guess I already knew much of the information in this video first-hand... but unfortunately had to learn the hardest (and stupidest) way. I've seen really good gains in my 30's especially when abstaining. Even at time where I couldn't train 100% due to lower back problems. I really regret my habits in my 20's and therefore have to preach to the younger people reading this to not repeat my mistakes! The healthy balance is key!! Abstaining for at least a few months will lower your alcohol tolerance to such an extent that you won't need to drink 15 beers to have a good time.
I like vodka with cranberry as yeasty drinks give me UTIs….the cranberry balances this out whilst no bubbles from fizzy drinks make it a nice drink. I drink a few maybe once or twice a year though 😂😂😂
I have to have my one drink of scotch every night. That’s 45 ml standard shot with club soda. If all this is true how do they suggest 2 drinks a day for men.
0:53 Was that an error? Did you mean to say "... are actually *_not_* consumed in large enough quantities through drinking to have a beneficial impact" since you were listing *_false / exaggerated claims,_* not the true benefits of alcohol consumption?
No because it was that the amount you have to drink to stay within "moderate" consumption is under what you'd need to consume to get any antioxidant benefits based on the research anyway.
@@redefiningstrengthOC Agree, it came off as contrary to what you meant and what the truth is...I'd just debunk that whole red wine/resveratrol is good for you (excuse).

Hahahaha! You made me laugh. But seriouslyCongrats!
Your a hero!
To confirm your choice was good
A surprisingly lovely cocktail i enjoy, light on the system and tastes fab...over ice, (i use a classic whiskey glass)
a measure vodka
Quater measure white vinegar
10 stevia drops
Little salt
Topped with mineral water,
Garnish
You could experiment with the vinegars and spirit.
Using juice of one lemon with stevia makes a lovely sour ... lengthen it with fizzy water.
great video, thank you. I moderate Alco when training and take a dry January most years
We have a Mexican restaurant we go to every Thursday night.
This was so helpful, thank you!
Thank you for the book recommendation
Glad the video helped!
@@karenhoffman1876 "This Naked Mind"/alcoholexperiment.com (it's free), "The Truth About Alcohol", and "The Easy Way to Stop Drinking"(Alan Carr), are good!
California cab sauv is my fav drink! 5G of sugar or less!! Sooooo good!
Don't drink often (0-2 times per month) but my choice is usually a bloody Mary, wine, or a beer. A couple times a year I will have a margarita or a martini.
thanks needed to hear this out loud ! since i do drink and love it so yes like other toxic foods i needed this Caution signal ; (
It's finding the balance right for you!
Vodka is my preference. I mix it with a zero calorie drink and add some Jordan's Skinny Mix for a variety of flavor
Can you do a video about negative impact of weed vs training session, thanks good work, well done!! ✌😎
Great message. I'm not sure if it's age or that I eat clean now, but 2 drinks feels like what 5 used too, so I try to limit. Not worth it.
Excellent and so well presented👍👍
I can tell you: for me it absolutely affects my ability to loose weight and i have to be so moderate for sure!
Great video, per usual! Your arms are amazing by the way!
Beer (particularly a sour, saison, or something hazy) or a G&T. But not regularly :)
Great video and sage on alcohol consumption.
Michelob ultra or wine is what I may have but working on cutting it out. I am getting at the age where I need it less in my life.
Finding our balance is key!
Thanks for the info, very informative.
You have the best abs in the industry
And considering sugar can break down much like alcohol, there's a reason sugar guts look similar.
I appreciate your videos. They have helped me so much 😁
I love grapes - the kind you eat off a vine;) Wild ones are the best. In the summer, if you put grapes in the freezer, they become an even more refreshing treat. Yum. 🍇
I love your channel.. Are kettlebell exercises good for someone who had cervical spine herniated disc 6-7 or should I just stick with looped bands only? Thank you
Love your informative videos.
Another excellent and informative video. Share this
Thank you!
What about Michelob Ultra, with 95 calories and 2.6 gr of carbs? Does having one a day make that much difference?
My only alcohol is vodka once or twice a week, but I am going to cut it out for a bit and see if results change.
Awesome! It's fun to see the different results we get from self experiments!
I like vodka with cranberry as yeasty drinks give me UTIs….the cranberry balances this out whilst no bubbles from fizzy drinks make it a nice drink. I drink a few maybe once or twice a year though 😂😂😂
I like margaritas but I don’t drink all the time just when I socialize maybe once or twice month , hopefully not to bad
I wish all restaurants would offer great unsweetened flavors of iced tea, sparkling waters, and low sugar mocktails.
I can live without alcohol but not without coffee lol 😂❤️☕️
Same here
Me too
Hehe lol funny,likewise ✌😎☺
Can you recommend a macros app please?
I literally clicked on the video because the thumbnail pic has my favorite brand of margarita wine… I prefer the mango tho. 🥭
@@redefiningstrengthOC Thanks for explaining.
I never drink soda, eat snacks, so I have 2-3 drinks a week.
I needed this
I cut out alcohol 2 years ago. Best decision ive ever made. I sleep better, wake up better and ive lost over 10kgs. There are many non alcoholic options now so im really not missing out on much 😀
Great information, thanks
Haven’t had a drink in 20 months….more to do with suffering a concussion, but I’ll stick with it.
There's plenty of non alcoholic beers and wines available, organic and isotonic. And they taste delicious. No need to torture yourself.
This video is amazing!
I allow myself 1 beer a week and thoroughly enjoy it. Anything else just isn't worth the calories.
thank you
Red wine and Guinness
No, not together
And for a cheap summer drink, Old Milwaukee with fresh orange squeezed in it. A shit ton cheaper and as tasty as the exorbitantly priced apricot heffies
