Kudos for doing what you did, we saw her as quintessentially British, even though she was a Kiwi, beautiful lady, she's still around and looking on for sure.
In the early 1960s my parents had a newsagents shop in Shepherds Bush and Nyree used to come in to chat. I only have vague memories of her as I was very young but remember her gentleness.....
A lovely home to come from Napier...my aunt was such a wonderful lady and class act . You met my mum merle , her sister through Kareen or the realtor i cannot recall . Those pictures where from Nyrees childhood dreams of silver screen that she followed in her life. It's uncanny that her nieces are now crayoning the walls in london now it's in the blood . Those 2 sisters they where the real deal and 60's London was some place then i miss them so dearly. I saw and touched these with affection too, like mum and will show her nieces when they are old enough to appreciate them. A nice posting i thank you. kindest regards Ben
Nyree Dawn Porter was a wonderful actress. I had no idea she was from New Zealand, her English accent was impeccable! I've just been watching her in a classic British horror movie from 1970 opposite Christopher Lee called 'The House that Dripped Blood'. She was superb as always, such a lovely, graceful performer. Thanks to UA-cam, her other notable work can still be enjoyed, for example the Forsyte Saga and The Protectors with Robert Vaughn (there's an excellent documentary about that, link here - ua-cam.com/video/SEb9edI7BFs/v-deo.html ). Nyree Dawn Porter was clearly a gifted artist, as well as actor! Those drawings are gorgeous. It would be lovely if her pictures could be put on display where the public would enjoy them, perhaps at a dance school or in the lobby of a London Theatre like the National where she has starred. Good to see a post here from her nephew Ben, the family must be so very proud of her and her achievements in an incredibly competitive field. She clearly had great courage and self belief. Her beautiful dreams of stardom are clear to see in her art, and she made them come true. She is truly inspirational.
