Excellent video, great views of the waves. It's a shame that so many piers are fenced off now but your video shows exactly why it's necessary, now that common sense is no longer standard issue!
Just to say a massive thanks for shooting this video and providing a completely different viewpoint to what I have been used to over the past 55 years (standing on the promenades at Seaburn and Roker during high spring tides combined with huge waves, marvelling at the amazing spectacle of nature). I've never seen Roker Pier and the South Pier so close-up like that during a storm. It also provides a record of the storms and the damage done by them.
Thank you so much for such a lovely comment. It made us feel quite emotional that yourself, a local resident, have got pleasure from our video. This was our families first visit to Sunderland and Roker Beach, we weren’t disappointed. The waves were so big, yet on the beach it wasn’t windy at all.
@@grantsissons You're most welcome. Did you travel to Sunderland from afar? Over the years I have witnessed many spectacular high tides - I specifically go down when the winds are strong from the north or east which whip up very large waves and when there are cycles of very high spring tides every month when the water level is also much higher and the waves crashing along the sea front incredible - in Jan 2017 for example the water actually spilled onto the main road by Seaburn Hotel and touched the roundabout (and I don't mean the spray - the actual water). There was quite a spectacular event yesterday, Sun 11 Feb 2024 (some videos have already started to filter through) although I have seen it quite a bit higher than that over the years. Keep those drone videos coming! They are amazing. :)
Thank you so much. We travelled a fair distance (Nottinghamshire) but used Sunderland as a stop off overnight on our way to Edinburgh for a short holiday. We really enjoyed our time at Sunderland and look forward to returning. Thank you for the insight into the local events too. ❤

Wow, those waves were massive! Great video.... What drone have you got as it seemed to manage excellently in the windy conditions? Well done 😊 👍🏻 👏🏻
It was surprisingly not that windy. It’s a DJI Mavic 3 Pro. Skilful piloting I say😎
Indeed... Indeed! 😎 👍🏻
Really good viewing
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.
