I own Sony’s 85mm 1.8 and I’ve noticed that my copy likes to hunt between faces in a frame with AF-C wide on my A7C (mark 1) . That doesn’t happen to my other Tamron 28-75mm G2. Weird behavior, maybe it’s just my copy of the lens, or maybe a shallow DOF 😑 It works great when I select narrow areas of focus with the touchpad though .

That's not a lens issue mate! When you are on wide focus mode, Camera can't prioritize multiple faces in the scene, you either have to decrease the focus Responsiveness or use the face register option in the menu settings to select your desired face, Good luck.
