Chris, is it ok to use well water (sprinkler) to water mangoes or will they end up tasting gross? I hand water (city or rain) my container mangoes, but my Sweet Tart is in the ground. The first fruit I tasted from the ST was awful. Was grainy and had a horrible taste. Not mango-like. I have about 30 growing this year, and am hoping they will taste much better, but since it’s been dry this season, it’s been watered mainly when I have the sprinklers on (well water). It is very acidic with high iron and some sulfur smell.

It should be fine, but you may want to have the well water tested so you know exactly what is in it and in what quantities. Most often than not, well water is better for plants than city water.

How big can sweet tart tree grow?

    • @TrulyTropical

Sweet Tart is a vigorous grower. We try to keep our 'Sweet Tart' trees at 10-12 feet tall, but that is with regular pruning. If left alone, the tree would get big.

I cant decide between a sweet tart or an m4. Please tell me what you think? Space is limited, i will be growing it i a 25g pot for a while before putting in the ground. We live in suburban orange county, california, zone 10a.

Darn it. Seems like the only solution for me is to buy a larger property or tear out many of the natives & corresponding habitat plants I planted & I also so dearly love....for another fruiting tree. And I thought I bought a large enough property many yrs ago. Thx a lot !!!! (jk--keep 'em coming ! :) )

You could graft multiple varieties on one tree....

That is tempting, though have done it seldom. I like the purity of varieties...maybe I can have "one" Frankenstein mango variety :) Thx for the terrific videos again !
