Great work Ian. One of my favourite boat building channels. Very informative and I will certainly refer to your channel when the day comes to build my own wooden boat. (I've been told that I need to finish the house first.)
Nice work. Your method produces a very clean and well built boat. I really enjoyed your video. One of the places I was fortunate enough to apprentice at was in Bolinas Ca. Babe Lamerdin built a 50' MC Guinness schooner named Elizabeth Muir. Also, every Saturday and Sunday his friend John Lindeman came out to help. John is the best boatbuilder I have ever seen. He and Babe are great builders. I was in boatbuilding school and signed on to help John with the planking. They asked for 3-4 months. I stayed 31/2 years! For a long time my job was hanging planks. One Saturday John was getting clamps, ect. He said " you make them and I'll hang them " But John would not take them off even once! I never had to take any of the planks John made down to tune it up so the pressure was on! I became very good planker!
This some great work Ian, I'm really enjoying your videos. I've got a mate in ozz, you probably know him his names Andy, say hello next time you see him. All the best from Scotland.
Most of the painted areas will be inside lockers or behind furniture when finished. The hull planking and ribs will be varnished where normally visible. Thanks for your interest, keep watching!
Unfortunately they stopped trading recently, Ulladulla Sawmills. I haven’t yet needed to find another. Small amounts at higher prices can be found at Anagote Timbers, Marrickville.
Gonna be a beautiful boat, she is. She coming along quite nicely. As this is your "returement project" will she be your last build? Is that the plan? Just sit back, relax and sail? Or will you write more books and maybe consider more builds or teaching in the future?
Superb, very clear, dense and informative

Great video, Ian. Very clearly explained. Loved the reference to Cherub.
Incredible! You make it sound so simple. You had me at lock step scarf! Beautiful work.
Beautiful, just beautiful. 3 years in the making- the patience on you scare me!

Thanks Waterboy, I’ve got a mate named Gavin in Scotland, say hi to him too. Cheers.
@@SmithysBoatshed hey! I just him, what's chances? He says hi right back atcha Ian
Amazing work. Such a boat has its price, if we consider that the hull costs only 20% of the finished boat!
Very nice work! Though Iguess there’s no need for screws and a traditional scarf when using epoxy
Is there a way to paint/prime the interior of this hull with a clear material rather than covering up all this beautiful wood and copper work?

Hi ! Can tell me your timber supplier that you get your spotted gum from?
Unfortunately they stopped trading recently, Ulladulla Sawmills. I haven’t yet needed to find another. Small amounts at higher prices can be found at Anagote Timbers, Marrickville.
@@SmithysBoatshed thank you so much! Appreciate that🙏🏼

There will always be a project.
Do you do classes ?
Not anymore I'm afraid, we ran classes from 1989 to 2005 but the School only operates these days as a website.
@@SmithysBoatshed That's to bad can I have a link to your website, do you know anyone who conducts boatbuilding courses in Sydney ?
@Giaus Caesar Not aware of any these days. Website is www.sydneywoodenboatschool.com.au
@@SmithysBoatshed Thank you Ian I have to make sure I buy your books as well.
Do you expect Canadian money?
If you’re referring to buying my book the figures on the website are in Australian dollars. PayPal will convert it for you. Cheers.
