Solos in Slayer are meant to be chaotic. Both guitar players do solos, Hanneman and King, usually they duel in songs. I love solos from both of them, fit the "Slayer style" perfectly.
And they were pretty influential, just listen to Rick Rozz in Massacre and Death or the Hoffman brothers in Deicide
Man Rick Rozz's solos in Death sucked lol. But that's because he was up against masters of their craft (Paul Masvidal, the almighty James Murphy and Chuck Schuldiner himself).
I remember reading in a interview with Brian Hoffman that he referred to his whammy bar dives as
Rick Rozz screams
@@Walamonga1313 + Evil Chuck?
Slayer solos suck. Some of the songs.
Angel of Death - Slayer
We need that reaction ASAP!!
Would be as interesting as their Silent Scream reaction
Duuuuuudeeee yessssssss
THIS.
Angel of Death is by far one of the best songs Slayer has ever recorded. i can't believe that not one reaction channel has done it yet.
shaitanlavey cuz these idiots all prefer to hear every reaction channel do raining blood instead.
I'm not religious, but I hope you guys understand that Slayer's basic point is to illustrate the problem of evil; they're not actually Satanists or any similar nonsense. They never were.
Tom's even a Catholic.
I know
yeah, its like Hitler never was a Nazi, he just spoke about the problem of naziism XD
@@Sim-903 that is in no way comparable.
Recording albums and play metal shows or the holocaust.
I think what Slayer does so well is show how the church and religion is bullshit.
@@scotthandler3314 nailed it!
Old school Slayer was a big influence on death and black metal that came in the late 80s and early 90s. They were really ahead in terms of extreme music.
This is probably their most influential album on extreme metal.
/mu/ck nah. Slayer may have hugely influenced the next generations of bands that started going black and death, but as a band, and as extreme as it once was, never went beyond thrash metal. Early Kreator, on the other hand, had already broken that boundarie, so could be considered proto-death metal as you said, mainly because of the harsh vocals and ultra high tempo beats.
Show no mercy album is total venom influence
@@heldertiago124 Those later bands are good, and I've even seen the later death metal bands live like Morbid Angel, Obituary and Deicide, and the newer Behemoth was great live too. They are great bands to this day. But I like Slayer's version of "evil" better than any of the later bands. At there best moments, and the intro to this song is one of them, they are unbeatable to me. The beginning of Angel of Death, Chemical Warfare, Piece By Piece, Raining Blood, Evil Has No Boundaries, Metal Storm/Face the Slayer, Haunting The Chapel title song etc. give me that animal feeling I don't get from the other bands that are supposedly more extreme. But to each their own. This is just my opinion, I don't pretend like everyone should agree only with me.
@@ChicagoTRS Absolute bullshit. Reign in Blood had WAY more influence than Hell Awaits. And most bands site Sabbath or Celtic Frost along with Slayer.
And Venom was the most influential band for Black Metal.
You're just talking out of your ass.
"Like I was watching a horror film" is the entire intent of Slayer. Always keep that in mind when listening.
Hell awaits is not much different than watchinga scary movie. -just entertainment
Chilean Tomas Antonio Araya says in an interview that he is catholic... So his music is only a way to see the dark side of human condition, that is what it is... just art, in the same way a movie of demons, and satan is just art and entertainment. Just like The number of the beast is a song about a nightmare.
Tjat song takes me to 1985 when I was 15 and go crazy listen Salyer, by the way this one was the firat song I heard from Slayer.
The verse in the beginning is actually a reverse that played reverse says "join us... join us join us Welcome back"
I dont think Slayer has ever been satanic. To me its more like.. "Well, society is demanding that I be christian, and pray for the angels, etc... You know what Im gonna talk about? Demons and satan, etc.." Its like non-conformity on what society demands.
exactly
Araya is literally catholic so they were just doing songs, they were not serious
@@waltuh11121 Yep, some black metal musicians are indeed satanists, rapists, killers and racists but that doesn't diminish their art any more than what the regular joes doing the same style produce.
It's not different than watching a horror movie or reading a horror novel, it's entertainment for some unknown reason because it's music apparently the artist is bound by his imagination and must worship and promote the message simply because it's a creative outlet.. BIGOTRY AND PREJUDICE IN IT'S PUREST FORM ALL HAIL SLAYER..
cool format though at least the guy is cool about it all.
@@waltuh11121he said they’re just words. Whether or not Kerry and Jeff believe them, Tom didn’t and just wanted to put on a crazy show.
Slayer - Angel of Death
Death - Spiritual Healing
Both over rated songs
Try At Dawn They Sleep, same album. It's about Dracula and his bloodsucking minions.
ᕼᑌᗰᗩᑎ ᖴᗴᒪᒪᗩ Crypts of Eternity is another food song. Unfortunately they never play it. Maybe it's too technically complicated? But they played it in 1985.
i always thought At dawn they sleep fit with Evil Dead 1
Rest in peace brother Jeff, the one who brought the pace.
Back in my Senior year of High School, I used to drive to church blasting this album. I was a bad Christian.
:-))))
I wore Slayer shirts to our church youth gatherings every Thursday.
Nah, Slayer music is pretty much horror story time. Tom Araya has always been a devout catholic. He is an horror artist, that doesn't mean he believes in what he writes and sings, same way Stephen King doesn't go around killing people left and right.
Don't read too much into the lyrics. Much like Venom, it was purely for entertainment and a gimmick in the early days and still is on some level. For them it was all about how fast and heavy they could get within the boundaries of thrash metal
exactly. slayer were always going for shock value, and they quickly abandoned the overtly satanic stuff in favor of wwii, serial killers, and generic anti-christian themes because it just got old and lame. by the end of 90s they had a song about friggin' rugby for pete's sake
What song about rugby?
scrum
Exactly, Slayer didn't give a fuck
Tom Araya who writes the lyrics is actually a practicing catholic, anyways.
So awesome, that you've done so many reactions this week. Appreciate it
Hell Awaits is my favorite Slayer album.
Mine too!!!
Me three...shit is dope!
I’ve always wondered why people flocked to Reign in Blood first before listening to this.
When I was young I was so scared when I heard this track
@@BadEconomyOfficial Because the production on Reign in Blood is pristine by Rick Rubin. He polished up Slayer and made the best thrash album in history.
Kerry King just solo’s for the sake of soloing. His solo’s never go with the song...haha! I still love Slayer though!
Their solos were fire in their first album though
Gotta love his last solo on war ensemble !!
@@gauravbrahmankar6871 + I never thought Kerry King was any good. But I love Slayer.
Except his solos on Seasons in the Abyss. He said he took music theory or something along those lines and it showed. I wish he kept taking them.
I strongly disagree
They are perfect, pure creepy chaos
The riff that begins at 4:04 is a typical black metal riff that would eventually become a staple in 90's Norwegian Black Metal. Everything, from the guitar tone to the picking style and the selection of notes, it's all black metal sounding.
it's weird how rarely hell awaits is brought up as a fundamental influence on black metal especially given how many bands have ripped it off
True.
Slayer was influenced by Venom. Show no Mercy is an example.
Bathory sounded more bm before them
celtic frost come around the same time
OG Slayer releases up until Seasons just can't be fucked with. Pure art
The riffs, the lyrics, the drumming, the imagery and the atmosphere is just legendary.
I saw the original lineup at least 5 or 6 times before Hanneman passed. Even met them all a few times. One of the greats forever man
Venom - At War With Satan
ChicagoTRS this
Greatttt!!! Suggestion! Tht long ass sàtanic song is sooo evil
You guys really did my request
I would recommend you two react to Bathory - One rode to asa bay. A different twist. By the way, you are awesome! :)
you´re the king for suggesting this
hopefully they use the music video^^
or Bloodied Shores
Crosstitution would be more fitting I think 😜
if anything from the requiem album, then it has to be war machine
Glad to see someone request Quorthon. Bathory was a catalyst in the black metal crossover from purely Satanic to the "my father's gods" movement.
Dimmu Borgir - Serpentine Offering
Me and that man (any song)
Demon Hunter - Storm the Gates of Hell
Impending doom - Death. ascension. resurrection
Johnathan Davis - What it is
Devin Townsend - Stormbending
King 810 - Trauma Model
Fun Fact: Lead singer of Slayer is a devout Christian
Chinmoy Sarma Catholic....but that could be considered splitting hairs.
lol @ devout Christian - show some devout Christian a Slayer concert, point at Araya and say "Look! Another devout Christinan, just like you!" I am sure there will 100% understanding between the two of you at that point...
Thts a fucking lie!!
Whats a lie? Tom really is a Catholic
JD Cantu ,who fucking cares .alott of south american pple have catholic back grounds.tht does not mean the same thng as "born again"catholics arw not necessarily christian.quit sayn tht bout tom arya
Great song and album, love the reviews, keep up the great content
How TF did I miss this reaction!!?? Its pure gold! From start to finish.. wow.bravo! .. ps. Their reactions are priceless
My second favorite is Seasons in the Abyss.
Fun fact: Tom Araya (slayer's singer) is actually christian
Léviathan catholic actually
But similar
Irishmenz- "Similar"? Roman Catholicism is a Christian sect.
Son of Sparda - all Catholics are Christians, but not all Christians are Catholic. One does not equal the other.
Bullshit!! Wat the fuck is actually a roman catholic.there priests are sick ass pedophiles
shaitanlavey- No shit.
I was today years old when I found out the intro says "Join Us" (backwards) & not "Psychic Heart" like I've thought the last 20+ Yrs.
Welcome back!
Alestorm - Drink 🍻
I used to love the tabboo feeling listening to this
Good stuff...this is awesome
Blessed with a Kerry King solo...awesome!! Almost spit my beer all over with that comment.
Slayerrrrr!!! \m/
yay...I am excited! Early Slayer...
OMFG!!! I never clicked so fast!! My FAVE album of theirs by far.. Though when I was growing up it was all about Reign in Blood but now that I'm older I love Hell Awaits, more :D
Possibly their best song, and their best album
You guys should listen to some Burzum, I suggest the song Dunkelhiet
Definately.

WELCOME BACK!!!
I fall asleep listening to this song every night. When I die I don't want any hymns sung at my funeral just a few Slayer songs played with this being one of them.
Slayer- Angel of Death, it's a must listen!
raining blood wasnt a solo...
Its just chaotic sounds
Dont be so close minded
Your thoughts literally just cant be changed
I agree as well. But! Outside Show No Mercy, the amount of decent solos from Slayer is very scarce..
MetalForTheMasses The solos on Seasons were all very good.
Just relistened to Seasons, and I gotta hand it to you. The solos are definitely equal to Show No Mercy! Haven't heard most post-Reign In Blood Slayer in a couple of years tbh, so I forgot :)
Kerry King's solos do suck. He can riff crazy fast but he's not much of a lead player. Hanneman was much better but still not great. Just never felt Slayer were even close to the same level as a lot of the other great metal bands. They're great, don't get me wrong, I enjoy them greatly but they're more just trying to play hyper fast and shock people. Would much rather listen to Suicidal Tendencies, Megadeth, or Pantera.
MetalForTheMasses Slayer has never been one to pump out amazing solos but their best were in Seasons In The Abyss.
great reaction for a hot summer day
You two don't seem to be enjoying this too much lol...HELL AWAITS!!!!
If you want more Slayer I'd say Angel of Death, or South of Heaven
Melkor Odensson agreed!!
Nah... I would say Necrophiliac, Postmortem, at dawn they sleep or death skin mask...
Such good tracks dude
Piece By Piece, Criminally Insane, Reborn, Kill Again, Hardening Of The Arteries, Ghosts Of War, Hallowed Point, Aggressive Perfector, I could go on....
Want a twisted slayer song? Payback
sori is stylin with those earrings. looks beautiful.
Love this song
Hell awaits y show no mercy son los mejores discos de slayer
Carach angren - when crows tick on windows pleeeease
Rammstein - Mein herz brennt alsooooo😂😂😂
Carach Angren is the fucking shit.
I purposely didn't watch this. You guys are new. Technique. Transitions. Metal always comes out Golden.
No one and i mean no one can not want to move their head during this song !
Seasons in the Abyss would be Slayer at their peak
Johnny Nonuts yes
I agree with mook. Some good songs on Seasons, but signs of lyrics that don't fit the music, and over-the-top wordy lyrics at times.
Reign in Blood is the peak
SLLLAAAAAYYYYYYYEEERRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!
7:39 That's how the instrumental intro should make you feel, Sori. It's *_very_* dark before there are any lyrics at all. I think there are 5 different guitar riff patterns at the beginning before the lyrics start. I think the beginning of the song is comparable to how the self-titled Black Sabbath songs hits you the first time you hear it.
Hey guys greetings from Bulgaria, since tomorrow is the first of july it will be realy nice to do Uriah Heep - July Morning. Keep making us smile.
I remember buying this album back in 1985 I was only a very young 18 year old I told my uncle to put this on and I remember his reaction to this day it was so priceless but of course I was rocking out to this song
You have to do Helloween Keeper of the seven keys! I think Sori would like it 😄
Great band
Good choice. One of my favorites. I really enjoy and appreciate your viewpoint as Christian's and how you are actually open minded in your opinions when reviewing dark lyrics.
Bought it when it came out [1985] - I still love it.
While you're on Slayer - the Antichrist was a good "shock value" song that they did early on.
Another band to consider would be Mercyful Fate's early stuff with King Diamond - "The Oath" or "Come to the Sabbath" would be my favourites from that period, but there's a whole bunch of good ones there ("Desecration of Souls", "Black Funeral", "Satan's Fall", "A Dangerous Meeting", and "Into the Coven" - which was one of the songs listed by the PMRC when they were pushing for warning labels on music).
SLAAAAYEEEEER!!!
Guys, I just wanna hug you both :-)
You guys should totally do Read Between the Lies and Haunting the Chapel
Architects - Broken Cross
Classic Slayer song.. I highly recommend the band Goatwhore. It would be interesting to hear the discussion on their lyrics.
Ben Falgaust's previous band Soilent Green were way better...
Thank you
The early part of of your discussion reminded me of a line from Paradise Lost, "Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven."
Please react to necrophiliac ! By SLAYER !!! It’s a really good song ! \M/
You mean snackrophiliac 😉
Katatonia - Fall Of Hearts
Malvolio Rama Departer
Best intro to any metal song and album.
Sori's first comment nailed it. Tom Araya has said he tries to create a horror story in their songs.
Slayer always claimed it was all for shock value, Tom Araya, the vocalist, is a Christian, I believe
That intro riff.....just really kinda basic, BUT.....I'll be damned ('scuse the pun.) If it ain't just powerful a/f.
What a nice ballad huh 😁
Brilliant song with outstanding lyrics. My favourite slayer album.
Yes! My favorite record by them!
I've been hesitant to say this because I do enjoy your channel and will continue to do so but one thing that bothers me is a pattern I've noticed that in most of your videos these days the videos are roughly 30 minutes and in that time there's maybe 5 minutes of actual music reaction and the rest is discussion often barely related to the song at hand. Now I like hearing your takes on different things as you have an interesting, informed, and intelligent perspective. But I thought this was a channel about reaction to specific songs. It seems almost like a song is chosen to get us here and then the discussion is mostly about something maybe loosely related but not really all that much about the song you've chosen. Like I said I'm not going anywhere but I do wish you could focus on the songs directly a little more and what you like or don't like about them from your perspective and maybe save some of the other musings for another time and place. Sorry to be negative because I do like and appreciate what you're doing but I wanted to add my two cents on how I'm seeing the channel.
A similar complaint I have is that their song ratings are, most of the time, a reflection of what they think about the lyrics instead of the music itself. In my opinion I think they should do two ratings, one for the lyrics and another to the music.
brad bolly The LIV guys do thar also. But they focus a bit more on the music itself.
Yeah LIV is the gold standard for this kind of thing.
Making videos where you can skip over basically 85% of it isn't the best model is it?
brad bolly they need to get their asses to a Gojira show.
Slayer - Bloodline
I loooooooove this song!!!!!¡
Im 53 years old and I still fucking blare this song driving to work in the morning, goes especially well with a double expresso.Peace from Calgary.
React to Vital Remains - Dechristianize
Second best Slayer intro ever. No need to say the best.
Don't forget this is an exploration of an idea. They like to explore dark possibilities in their lyrics, and you mustn't take everything at face value. As you have noticed in other videos reviewing them, their lyrics have many layers and can be interpreted in different ways. It's best to dig deep with this band's words and not be misled by the imagery. Realize the topics they discus are in many cases not declarations of their own views, but rather describing 'What if?" situations.
Don't take Slayer ''satanic'' lyrics literaly. It's an imagery.
So how do you know when it should be taken seriously?
@@HumanXtinction As for satanic imagery, unless you believe in fairy tales, never.
Hail satan bitch
@@Hinglemcringleberrys Get a grip, you fucking lunatic 🙄
Death flattening of emotions por favor
You guys made me a Slayer fan, I was always kinda scared before.
I applaud y’all for not having the uncontrollable urge to head bang to the intro of this song lmao this is one of the hardest riffs to not head bang to
You know my ass is here! I did laugh my ass off on the "amazing Kerry King solo" part. That guy is terrible. Jeff Hanneman (RIP) created every single good Slayer riff and solo. Including this one you are listening to.
Devil'sAdvocate 100% I remember looking through the lyrics in the CDs and all my favourite songs were written by Jeff at least musically.
Iron Maiden For the Greater Good of God????
Andrew Crawford Yes! That's would be a good one reaction :D
When this came out back in 84 I thought it was the baddest thing I ever heard!!!
These early songs were so influential on the music that followed. Like others have said it’s all entertainment. As Tom Araya is a devout catholic. As for Kerry he solos just so people won’t forget about him since Jeff was the superior guitarist and song writer as he wrote all of Slayers most memorable songs! RIP to Jeff, and go SLAYER!!!! currently on their retirement tour.
Vin: "Christianity was invented...it's like literally the worst invention possible"
I mean, I'm not gonna argue with you on this one ;-)
Fun channel btw
I can think of worse. one that was invented about 700 years later actually.
I love you guys People keep getting you to listen to song to watch you freak a bit. Slayer is not satanic Dave Lombardo said in an interview that the reason they have all the satanic stuff was to quit playing garages and play clubs. If they wanted to watch you freak they would have you listen to Merciful Fate The Oath. Amazing guitar work. Keep up the great work I will enjoy your views.
I've heard this song live so amazing. 😜✊💯
I'm a Christian and my friend is a atheist and we love SLAYER and GHOST. Tom has to be my favorite member of SLAYER and he's catholic. Hell Awaits was my first SLAYER album
We can go down the line of different religions and gods the became before Christianity and we can point out oden who died on a tree who sacrificed to himself who was pierced at his side who bled water and blood. Osiris said he was the way the truth and life. Mithra died for sins. Mithra said eat and drink of his blood. Same concept of the lords supper. Christianity stole from religions and stories hundreds of years older. But yet somehow Christianity is the truth lol. The jews dont believe in a hell or satan cause the old testament makes no mention of hell or suffering after death. I mean lets be real both you to have no factual evidence to back up your gods existence no scientific evidence no nothing your belief is based on faitjmh a foolish way to live your life i say this cause i was a christian for 25 years i can assure you no man knows the truth
Any Stryper reactions soon?
Be careful: in 2018 someone may read that and before you know there will be Stryper reaction by Vin and Sori and you will be sorry...
tf that means
@Fractured Mirror: It's a puzzle to solve!
LMAO Stryper? You mean the fake ass, "Christian" hair metal shite? The so called "youth ministers" who liked to get drunk and high all the time? The guys who wore more makeup than a busload of I Love Lucy impersonators? I will give them this much - Oz Fox was a phenomenal guitarist... and then he went and married an actual prostitute... who went on to found Hookers For Jesus hahahahaha!
This song scared the hell out of me when I heard it at 14
King Diamond “Welcome Home”👍
Early, early Slayer has alot of hardcore punk influences. Especially if you listen to Tom's vocal style here you can hear (and he would later confirm this, in fact doing covers at one point) Minor Threat in alot the verses. Love the riffs in this song. Production is pretty terrible though. Vin is still going in hard with that Kerry King, Reign in Blood solo hate. I think he is gonna die on that hill at this point :D
7/10 for me.
But honestly Slayer is great and all but how about some love for the other great thrash bands to come out of that scene (arguably better musicians) Exodus and Testament? Here's two for you
Exodus-Funeral Hymn (some of the best thrash riffs of all time and a killer solo)
Testament-The New Order (insane soloing throughout and killer riffs to boot.
