- The Taylor 214 is a super popular model… for good reason. Today we compare three DLX models - the 214ce DLX vs 214ce-Koa DLX vs 224ce-Koa DLX. They all feature X-bracing, the same body shapes, and very similar specs throughout. Which one would you take home?

Just picked up a ce koa Deluxe. Have a boomin spruce top already. This Koa is so full and even sounding! Neck is perfect for me. Gorgeous guitar!!
Yup, made in Mexico, just a hop across the U.S-Mexico border (6 miles on the other side), supporting Mexico labor and great craftsmanship, outstanding workmanship. If you can manage a visit to the Tecate factory they might even treat you to a Tecate!
I’ve owned all the 214ce guitars. 214ceDLX wins in my books.
I like the rosewood 214ce dlx. It's a cannon with low-end growl.
I went for the 224 K version, plays rather nice.
Perfect timing. Husband said I get a new guitar for mother's day and I've narrowed it down to the 214ce. I think I like the Koa.
Pig.
This video convinced me to buy the Taylor 214ce koa deluxe tonight.
Just bought a 2017 KOA top version DLX and according to the serial number that one is made in the USA. Taylor has a serial number decoder system that tells you a lot about your instrument. I absolutely love that instrument it is the perfect guitar for me I have smaller hands and like a guitar with a smaller body versus a dreadnought and with the cutaway and the Taylor neck system I really wouldn't want any other guitar.
Bought a 214DLX several years ago (it’s no longer in production) and have thoroughly enjoyed playing it ever since). Seems to sounds better when enjoying a tasty IPA.
Drunk bum.
You did not compare the ziricote 214ce dlx.
Thanks Paul and Quinton. Great sounding Taylor guitars. Although you sold me on the AD22E hog top and 811e LTD.
The rosewood has more midrange tone, i like that
Those all sound somewhat glassy, with a bit too much treble, the brash Taylor signature sound....best plugged....you guys are my favorite reviewers!
what model is the guitar hanging on the wall to the left?
roughly the same price as the superior-sounding yamaha red label you just reviewed. And for those who knee-jerk "yeah, but china...." I don't suppose you said that about your smart phone, amiright?
Thank you bro
Superior-sounding Yamaha…?! I’d leave that up for debate lol
We'll leave the Yamaha for you. I'll stick with the Taylor. Enjoy.
While you're playing your Yamaha, be sure to buy a $100 Yamaha piano. It will fit your guitar perfectly.
To much money for laminated guitars.
Just saying
That's literally the only reason I haven't bought the 224. It's roughly 1800$ and that's entirely too much for a laminate back and side guitar. I could get a used Gibson, or Martin for that price or even save up a little more and get an American Made Taylor. They sound good but they are RIDICULOUSLY overpriced for what they are.
That’s is true I got my 214 ce dlx sb almost brand new for 900 but I will never pay 1600 or 1800 for layered wood
4 years ago I bought a 224 non C or electronic american made for $ 375.00 in California.
Better for dry climates like Colorado. I have the 224ce-k-deluxe, and it holds up well in low humidity. If you live in Colorado or mother dry states....consider the 224.
@@talentosa57 It is worth it though....trust me.
I bought a Taylor 214 CE DLX about 3 months ago,the strings seem a little higher than I’m used to any suggestions! Thought about going to lighter strings or have a nut job done!
Have you adjusted the truss rod?
If a truss rod adjustment doesnt get you where you want to be , see if your dealer does setup work in house and has a Taylor certified tech there. Sometimes dealers do free simple setup workbon instruments they sell. Even if you pay its worth it to have someone competent do it. Then take care of them by keeping the humidity right and keep temperatures consitent, avoid big temp changes. I like 50 to 55% rh @ 70°f.
You can't hear the bass guitar and low notes, change the micropho
I could tell by your expressions that the 214 sounds significant better that the 224... but the 224 KOA is sure beautiful. I had a K22 at my house for two months... which is about $5k... but didn't care for the tone much...too muted and mellow for my taste... but I'm sure it fits certain playing styles. It seemed dead fish even to my 210e for some reason...must be the Koa wood that I love the look of but not the tone so much...who knows...
The 224 opens up beautifully in about two years. Got mine in 2018. The low end is "caramelly" warm.
@@josephmyers9843 I'm sure it has its place in the mix and for live use but I had it for a few months and never played it. And the person I got it from had it 10 years and never touched it either.
Yeah, same. Bought a 214-k-dlx 7 years ago and never liked it because of how muted it sounds. Still have it today but its been chilling in its case for some time. Since then I steer away from koa guitars.
@@richurro20 good to hear your experience with KOA too...
I like'm all
great guitar playing.... could not tell what model you were playing you were calling them .... this on and that one
Each guitar is named on the screen at the comparison at the end of the video....

The may Good meus irmãos na PAZ! Eu tinha um VIOLÃO e ai fique desempregado e muito triste e destruído quando tive que vender o my VIOLÃO para pagar dívidas. On day antes de morrer se my DEUS me der FORÇAS eu chego lá para conseguir um outro.
Estou aceitando ajuda para on day adquirir um até mesmo usado VIOLÃO yes. Love Good.
Nice enough guitars but a bit too bright for my tastes.
