A TDS (total dissolved solids) meter can be used to test the water from the tap, as well as the distilled water. Ideally, there should be zero total dissolved solids in the water though, in reality, water from my distiller has sometimes contained as much as 2 TDS. However, water from the tap contains in excess of a hundred TDS! Definitely worth getting a water distiller!

Minerals in water are very minimal,as long as you’re diet is good you will not have a problem
there are tons of good minerals found in most food as well so I don't see why i need it added into my water
