- I have two double-locking tremolo guitars and figured that I only need one. I made this sound comparison video to make a decision.
Models: ESP LTD KH-502 (2001/02) vs Ibanez RGAR42MFMT (2019)
Both guitars cost around $300 - $400 used, both have locking tremolos, and both passive pickups.
Which one do you prefer?
I ended up keeping the Ibanez, mostly because it is more versatile (5 way vs 3 way switch) and the newer locking tremolo system which was easier to maintain.

I have the KH502. The bridge is a Takeuchi, made in Japan, company also makes construction equipment. Could not get the parts to fix, so I swapped in a Floyd Rose Special, with all original Floyd parts I had laying around. Installed the Brass block and Brass Tone Claw, Noiseless springs. When I got it, The guy before me put in EMG 81/85, and I upgraded up to 18v. Complete setup. I can make this thing squeal like Dimebag, and also get smoother tones. Great guitar.
Got a RGAR42 today from guitar center for $314 including tax, and I am excited. It was MSRP at $688, they reduced it to a discount price of $499, got $165 credit for Ampeg B215 Bass cab on trade (I was so glad because it’s big and heavy and I’m not young anymore like when I bought it in 1983,) and I said “if you give me more of a discount I’ll buy it,” an the salesman said “I can give you 10% off,” and I said “sold.”
Blue Lagoon.
Amazing deal
Most guys wouldn't know the difference if you ask me. If there is some difference it's very slight but if this video was only audio I bet most wouldn't have got to know the difference between both.
I have the Ltd kh 202 and it’s awesome wouldn’t take anything for it.
Ibanez pickups sound tight and has a bit more clarity to it
Indeed, I bought a Duncan SH5 for the bridge, but after hearing them I decided to keep them… very versatile and modern
Yes but esp Ltd are made for rather heavy music
One of the reasons Metallica uses them
Sound wise the Ibanez, but the main thing for me is the feel, sound can be tinkered with plenty
Hi Pal, is this Ibanez model(rg ar41mfmt) still available in the market??
Hi, yes if you search for RGAR42MFMT you should still be able to find it ibanez.fandom.com/wiki/RGAR42MFMT
@@SpiralOutGuitar Yeah, I've seen that on Ibanez fandom long ago but was kindda disappointed that trans purple burst isn't available...did u buy that same product from this website?
@@markoadhikari8071 no, on eBay
how did you record the audio?
Boss GT100 -> USB cable -> Audacity (no post eq etc)
I wouldn't go by sound. Which neck feels better?
Both necks feel great, the LTD one is also fantastic...
Ibanez RGAR42MFMT 100%
Ibanez bolt ons beat esp/ltd bolt ons but in general neck through feels way better than just about every bolt on except for a few that have really nailed it. Can't say I'm a fan of the neck on the rgar42 I have, a setup is a given but it had pretty bad fret sprout that had to be addressed right out of the box.
Is that first riff Queensryche Jet city woman?
Interesting, never heard that song… I was playing along the lines of Metallica - Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
Spiral Out Guitar right on. After I listened to it a couple more times I realized it was Metallica lol
Ibanez takes the day
Ibanez hands down
Same price?
I got rga42 and humbecker sounds more like single coil compare to my other guitars
ibanez rgar42
That's the one I kept... More versatile and modern sounding 🎸🤘
Distortion Sound from GT-100 too harsh and wet. I not satisfy with both of two. Maybe better try use all tubes AMP with drive booster.
ibanez any day
Ibanez 🤟
Mejor la ibanez.. 👊👊
Ibanez all day any day...
Ltd
ESP E-II WILL BEATS THE HELL OUT OF THE IBANEZ
Ibanez está mal regulada. Está trastejando. :/
LTD IS BETTER
Şekilde görüldüğü üzere prosesor bok gibi bir şeydir.
