    Thank you, has helped me a lot. Way harder than learning to gybe. Been making steady progress and pass between 2 to 4 per session, my success rate is increasing, man, you are so right about getting that kite timing right. It's all about the kite. Thank you

    Another awesome video, thanks Evan! I have pretty much viewed all the tacking videos on UA-cam and this rates as one of the top ones.

    Nice one Evan! I have been trying this for a while now, and I still feel pretty useless at it... I hope some of the tips in the video help me send at tack soon. I would like to see one of these videos to focus gear... I am working all these methods on a slingshot 5.10 celero and a 12 or a 9 RPM depending on conditions. I know the kite choice is probably not ideal, but it will take me a while to save up to get something else. I seem to be able to jibe pretty well but tacks still seem impossible. Thanks!

      Thanks David! I touch on gear a bit in a few later video's but good idea, perhaps I will make one more gear based in the future. Since I ride for Cabrinha I don't want to come off as biased (which is inevitable) but certainly a kite with more depower or lift even can help when tacking that the RPM. Something when you sheet in that gives you a bit more time to get your foot work down. The drifter works great as it has a lot of depower giving you a nice range to build power when sheeting in and I also used the Swichblade in a lot of these clips and while it is not a wave kite it is maybe even easier to tack with as it has even more lift to time to make the transition. Jibes you don't rely on any lift from the kite so that totally makes sense. I hope this does help!

      @@evannetsch Thanks Evan, that totally makes sense. I will keep trying! (while a save for a more appropriate kite! ;) )

    Just like to add. It is more easy in the Swell to tack when you do it uphill. Hope you unterstand what i mean.

      Yes, good point, it could have been worth the mention for sure, timing in waves is key. Often that helps push you upwind and it is for sure harder carving into the wind on the backside of the wave rather than headed up the swell.

    Awesome video - you make it look so effortless.... QUESTION: is this easier with 2 fins or 4 ...?
    Thanks in advance

    what I'd really love to know is how do you know you're ready to jump from twintip to directional?

    • @mlavenne
      @mlavenne 4 місяці тому

      The earlier the better. If you can ride a twintip, you can ride a surfboard. Start with straps on the surfboard. Surfboards float a lot more than a twintip, so they are a lot more error forgiving too

    Does the kite matter? I use a switchblade and got core xr5 kites

    • @evannetsch
      @evannetsch  3 роки тому

      I'd say it will be a bit harder with a kite that doesn't depower well like a C kite, but both the Switchblade or xr5 will work good!

    Is there a fin setup that's better for tacking (Ie. thruster vs quad)?

    • @evannetsch
      @evannetsch  3 роки тому +1

      I don't think it makes a huge difference either way, board shape and size probably plays a bigger roll. A longer narrower board may be a little harder...
