I'm glad I came across your channel. I was going to skip this project I was working on but, something was telling me to keep pushing.. now I am getting a chance to expand my knowledge with your book! thank you for you work and dedication to the blender community!
@@mtranimation No, really, tutorials for the thinking person... thanks. I mean I absolutely don't need any wing or feather but the way you deal with problems is very elegant.
I just animated a craft with flappy wings, no feathers. But I parented the bones to vertices I controlled in GN and the motion was 10x easier to create than if I had done it traditional. This video was killer! Your book is too.
it's minute 1 and I decided to comment before hand, man this is amazing! I've seen professionals do wings like this in houdini in movie making! now I can play the rest :D
Although it is intimidating at first. The whole tutorial was very easy to follow. Thank you for a comprehensive guide to making a procedural wings in blender.
@@mtranimation Can you make a tutorial on how to create a sandstorm using geonodes? I have been trying to find a way to do it but no luck. and i love your teaching style :)
@@mtranimation I was hoping to learn how to create a desert atmosphere like the one in Dune with procedural/interactive sand and a large sandstorm, again like the one found in Dune. It seems that I can’t wrap my head around creating this using geo nodes.
I bought your book. It serves as a good reminder. The most useful part def was the examples and tips. You should really add more. Like putting an example of all the most common practices per node. That would 4x your book's value imo. Make it the actual go to book for geo node. And if you could give most common application examples for the math nodes that would even be better as this is usually where people struggle most. It's a good base/reminder. But has crazy potential that hasn't been harnessed. Also is missing the texture node section with examples.
I watched your tutorial and it is pretty great! I was at the stage of making webbing for wings in Blender as I watched this but not the feathery kind...I wonder if it works if there are more wing fingers to include? Still a great watch nonetheless. Thank you!
Love this. The image file for the small feathers seems to be missing from the startup file however. Maybe you forgot to pack it into the blend file? Just shows up as the classic pink color for missing texture when previewing the image node. Could you link to the specific images of the feathers please? Much appreciated!
@ Hmm, still not working for me. Could you uploadd just the image files to a google drive folder perhaps? That way we can just plug the image texture in manually :) Might be easier that way!
@ Yeah, even tried putting it in a different folder when downloading again, so it wouldn't mix the original with the new one somehow, still nothing tho.
I haven't finished the tutorial yet but I'm sure it will be great as always. It is just a pity that the cube wasn't selected in viewport when you started adding Geometry Nodes, because without the orange outline the lines you create in the beginning are hardly visible thanks to YT compression. I comment this every once in a while on tutorials, I personally often do not like like to see the orange outline either when working on something because it sometimes distracts from the original appearance, but when I watch tutorials especially on my TV it is hard to see what's going on. But maybe I'm just an unfortunate single case.
@@mtranimation Maybe it is not even YT compression per se, but the compression in the YT streaming app on the TV, because on the computer it is okay. I guess apart from having the object selected and getting an orange outline the only solution would be to set a different Wire color in the Preferences, but this might be just as undesirable as the orange outline. The thickness cannot be changed, only for edges in Edit Mode. Probably I just have to live with it if most people are watching this on their PC and do not experience any issues.
i have 2 questions for you first question : how long are you been doing things things like this? like geometry nodes and other things second questions : is big node book virtuel or physiqal sorry for my bad english
Hey! I have been doing Blender for almost 5 years and geometry nodes since it released (I think that was about 3 years ago). The Big Nodebook is an ebook in PDF format :)
first question 7 min in: why do we built the initial structure of the wing with curve lines instead of mesh lines, if we need to convert them to mesh anyway for the merge by distance?
Great tutorial. Given the timing of Marvel's new cap amer movie coming out Feb. 14, Brave New World. Who has exo wings, right. Even if just as a marketing experiment. See if you can ride the algo to get more exposure. Your content deserves to be seen by more people. Another suggestion for a possible follow up video to this one. Is to make gizmos for different wing rotations. I think a lot of noodlers would like to see that.
The Downy Feathers aren't showing for me, even in material preview - which is all it seems you did to get them to show. Not sure why. The planes become pixelated, but that it. I've tried the rendered view toggle, but no change.
@@mtranimation UA-cam doesn't permit it, I'm afraid. I'll finish your walkthrough anyway. I'm sure it's something simple and I'll figure it out. I've used a few of your geo node setups for stuff. Thank you for doing these and making them available. I sure appreciate it.
Your set up doesn't work for me in Blender 4.3, you have to add Realize Instances nodes on all 3 curves before joining them or the final joined curves points aren't what you expect.
