Showing the kit in action is the best way and I like the way you focused in on the tent logo, the viewer can gather the information they may want this way, but the enjoyment of the video and great outdoors isn't spoilt.

I would appreciate a review video on essential kit for new wild campers as I'm new to it all and would love if you could point me in the right direction, taking into account ease of putting stuff together and the least kit to carry for single night in spring time. So tent, ground mats, sleeping bag, cooking facilities, and essential waterproofs if needed and a decent pair of hiking boots. Obviously on a budget. What you feel is good enough to start to build on and ideal to gain experience with getting familiar

After you inspiring me to get out there, I positively escaped and went on a last minute walking holiday to the Isle of Mull - when I got back, I broke a 25 year habit going cold-turkey on cigarettes - nearly a month in and I'm feeling so much better, both physically and mentally. So, thanks so so much for exercising your mouth and the lecture, Al!!! 🤣 Still enjoying my bottle of vino at the weekend but even that's easier to cut down on now. I wouldn't say I'm particularly exercising more but when I am, I'm certainly getting much more out of the experience. Anyhoos, in summary, be reminded of how many lives you are helping to change for the better with your firm yet positive messages - thanks a bundle again, Al 🙏🙏🙏

Great stuff Al! Keeping it simple.. Yes! What more do we need?
Don't apologise for thinking you might have come across as 'a bit preachy' ..You didn't. Wise words. Without going into my life story, I maybe 'enjoyed' my younger days a little too much. Ditching putting 'crap' (as you put it so well) into my body and getting out into the outdoors, I'm fitter and hungrier for life more than ever. The only problem is that now there never seems to be enough hours in the day or weeks in the year to satisfy my enthusiasm! SO many places to go, SO many things to see, SO many as-yet-unknown adventures to be had! I'm in the second half of my life now and without bragging, I'm more than a match for my younger friends (although I couldn't keep up with your dad!).
Your message is spot on: Stop putting crap into our bodies, turn off the TV more often and get out there.
Oh, and Al don't say things like 'an old fool like me', because you haven't even started mate!

Been meaning to ask you if you can include reviews of your existing kit, so it’s great that you’ve raised this topic in this video. Aside from general camping and hiking kit, what kit have you got that suits your fast packing or trail running trips? How has that RAB jacket held up? What’s that lightweight blue insulated jacket you always pull out (not the phd one); even little things like wear-and-tear on stitching, or modifications you’ve made to kit. Really enjoy your videos and looking forward to seeing where you go with these new content ideas.

Your videos are fantastic - such a good balance of all sorts of things…the kit, nature, adventure, exercise, benefits, company, weather, etc. Your positivity, attitude & outlook are inspirational - I hope you get as much in return from those who appreciate all that you give & do, as you give to others…you certainly deserve it! More kit reviews/ recommendations/ mentions would be amazing too. Would be great to know your thoughts on kit suitable for certain conditions/ seasons/ temperatures etc., & any advice/ kit you’d recommend based on different experience levels too (if you think that’d be helpful to others too, of course). Would be great to get your thoughts on building experience too…in case that helps others that are daunted about getting out due to fearing a lack of experience/ knowledge, to enable others to find a way to safely pursue the things they wish to & increase their abilities. Hope you don't mind me submitting my thoughts in response to your question about additional reviews...just hope they make at least some sense! 🤣

Regarding content, I know this may not really be applicable to you as you have blue who seems to be made for camp life. But I’ve been wild camping for a bit now and I want to start taking my Rhodesian ridgeback as she loves the exercise, so all things dog kit recommendations would be much appreciated!

Brilliant as always! "Don't tell me....show me" as my old man always said! Your gear is seen where it needs to be seen, in the conditions it needs to be used in and that's more than good enough. That being said, knowing all the gear you have and where you have used it, doing your top choice kit reviews based on each season etc would be beneficial to many.

I'm coming up for the big Hawaii 5-0 shortly and have taken up fast shuffling very recently. My 5k times are nowhere near yours Al (almost double!!!) but I did a couch to 5k plan and enjoyed it. It usually takes me a while to get the dodgy knee and ankle warmed into it but once i'm off then it's all good! All my previous running was restricted to rugby which was short bursts of pace mixed with upper body exercise, so trying to actually run for a solid period of time is a very alien thing to me :)

Did you say it was brewed in ALLEN. (Your name ?) I don't know how to listen anymore. My 77 years is starting to affect my brain I think. I don't put "crap" in my body
I've been exercising "in place ", because of my not being able to walk. I DO feel better and I also can sense that my mental and physical body is rejecting the "foul" things of the world.
Thank you for yourself, Blue and all your wonderful advice. I only wish that you had a magic exercise that would make me walk again. But I ❤ doing what I can and traveling with you, Steve. Foresty, Rudin, Xander, Jon and Erin, and the rest of you wonderful UA-camrs !!!

When it comes to gear I am mostly interested in why you use the gear you take on different trips. It can be as simple as "I like the colour".
Also, it would be interesting with the different functions the kit needs to fill for different situations. Not a "this brand, this model" but a "you need a shovel for winter camping if..." This would be helpful for people to get out regardless of budget.

The countryside where you were looks very similar to where I live, but then I live in Yorkshire too, near the North Yorkshire Moors. Speaking of that...have you ever been to Marske-by-the-Sea? Another great video! You are absolutely right about getting out. You are passionate about it - same as me - so you want to talk about it because you truly believe the positive outcome. Very good, keep talking about it.
I have many, many questions regarding winter camping. I see myself as an experienced hiker/camper with temperatures around 10-15°C degrees celsius for hiking and/or camping but I struggle to get into winter camping. We go out almost every weekend for a day hike around 15-25km for the last 3 years. We camp around 15 times a year in our trusted tent. The problem that I experience is that I would like to buy gear that will last me for many years. I don’t like spending €400,- to start with winter camping and then have the gear laying around for the rest of my life. I would like to spend some good money now but make it last. My sleeping pad will be the Thermarest Xtherm Large and my girlfriend bought the Rab Hotsocks and Mitts for me while we were watching your videos, same with the Rab Argon down pants. They are laying under the tree for Xmas for me haha!
    Problems I encounter:
    - Sleeping bags. I have a Decathlon sleeping bag rated for 15°C which I love for summer camping. With my medium Sea to Summit Reactor I can get this down to 8°C comfortably. But now I struggle which sleeping bag to buy for winter, my interest is going to the Rab Ascent Pro 600. For colder nights I could again combine it with the Reactor, maybe even the Extreme.
    - Winter down jackets. I find the hard to compare the winter jackets with each other since they have no limit ratings. My interest is going to the Rab Electron Pro. BUTTTT :-), this brings me back to my sleeping bag. If I combine the Rab Argon pants, Electron Jacket, Hotsocks and Mitts, isn’t it enough to combine this all with my Decathlon 15°C sleeping bag with temperatures down to -10°C? Maybe even with boiling water into my Nalgene bottle?
    - Winter GTX jackets. I love your ‘extreme’ video’s with the winter storm camps and I want to encounter them myself, but when do you need GTX jackets? Obviously in very rainy conditions, but what about winter?
All the other gear like winter tents and stuff are clear to me.
Next up, I never camped higher then 900m above sea level since I live in the Netherlands, I usually camp in the Ardennen, Belgium or Luxembourgh with my Golden Retriever named Cooper. Next year we will be making some trips and camps in the Kalkalpen, Austria and we are planning to sleep at the Hoher Nock around May or July as our first mountaineering experience. How are the conditions in the mountains in summertime compared to sealevel? And all my questions start over….
We will be visiting the Kalkalpen next year (2024), hike the full Tour du Mt Blanc the year after (2025) and I am now training to climb Mt Blanc in 2026.
Personally I would really appreciate a video where you do talk about gear, more in-detail with most circumstances and situations. My apologies for my very long comment but I wanted to give you some insight on my tought process. Maybe something to consider while you are making another gear related video.
Thanks a lot for reading this and I’m looking forward to your next video!
Great job bud, I hope we, including Cooper and Blue are able to meet up in the next years because Lake District is definitely on my bucket list to plan a vacation! Keep doing what youre doing, and enjoy the outdoors!

      The Argon pants are great👌
The Rab Ascent Pro will be spot on. Combine it with your argon pants and a down jacket and that will be suffice for pretty much every night in the UK. Maybe test your old sleeping bag first but the Rab one I promise you’ll love.
For dry winter camps any decent shell outer layer will do mainly to protect the down and be windproof but if you’re planning lots of expeditions I’d look at getting a decent shell layer.
Mainly you’ll get more idea of kit suitability by getting out there and testing it in safer circumstances before you take in some challenges.
      Enjoy mate👊

Great to hear that I was on the right track there. I've just ordered the Rab Ascent Pro 600 including the Rab Electron Pro Jacket! Can't wait to have them arrive.
We are heading to Luxembourg tomorrow for a hike at the Mullerthal, definitely a place you should look up. Truly amazing.
