The sprite is so large that even with the sprite limit disabled, the emulator cannot fully display it.
"This hack increases the player size fourfold, enabling them to destroy all blocks simply by touching them. While falling, holding down the down key also allows the player to destroy the block they are riding.
Compatible with ROM hacks created using SMB Utility, you can enjoy destruction even in levels you’ve designed yourself. (Note: It is not compatible with SMB Utility itself. Apply the IPS file to your custom ROM.)
Go ahead and destroy everything!"

Best Super Mario Bros. 1 Hack Ever!
This is how I feel playing my childhood video games again as an adult.
Although it might look kinda wrong, if the block bits weren't there when breaking a block, Mario would look pretty solid for most of the game. I'm sure there must be some way to convey the blocks being destroyed other than the extra sprites flying around that's causing the huge amount of flicker on Mario. Other than that, and that is a big thing, this is actually really cool for running on a NES.
Edit: Maybe even allowing the broken pieces to be part of the cycling flicker routine would help there, as then it wouldn't just be Mario that's have to take all the flicker damage.
It would be nice if tiles can be used on the background as the block bits.
What I'm suggesting might sound overkill, but mostly hypothetical.
The letters F J X could be replaced with new block bits in graphics.
I don't think those letters appear used in game normally. So they can be changed.
Make the letter V unused by changing the ending princess message from
"YOUR QUEST IS OVER"
to
"YOUR QUEST IS DONE".
So 4 tiles can be overwritten with block bits in different positions.
Although I think altering the flicker for block bit sprites may seem a more sensible approach though 👍

Man, that flickering thou. I'm sure that if this hack ran on real hardware, the NES would explode. Also, the way Mario entered the pipe is so funny, because it looks like he sits on it 😂

The timer can run out. You can get lost in a maze castle. 8-4 requires that you go through multiple pipes and you can break just one and soft-lock yourself.
Or, you can fall into a pit. That one's a given.

Yeah, even you can suicide yourself if trying on breaking the floor, creating a pit on the ground.
