In short, being a trainee will not be so easy. I salute you all who are so passionate and determined and are working really hard. You people are so inspiring, I love you. Thank you for being there, making me happy and keeps me going with life with a smile and a happy heart.
I love how Peniel with the most years in the industry offered that balance in the conversation. He's probably seen so many instances of unhealthy body issues over the years.
Peniel just finding a loop hole with the "keep your phones at the dorm" rule. Also love how when the managers asked for objections, Peniek just shot his hand up😂
god this clip was so painful to hear I cant even imagine how it was to actually experience that kind of trainee life, mad respect for the idols going thru it
I feel so sad for the trainees. Just imagine going through all that hardships and once you debut it will only take one nasty scandal and your career is done.
I wish Korea will understand one day that once you make someone focus too much on their weight everyday, a lot of disorders will most likely occur and bad eating habits will happen and that’s not healthy at all
I feel so sad, idols are humans too, we should love them because of the messege they give and how we feel when we hear their music, no one should control what they eat
I honestly woulda though companies could pay for fitness trainers and nutritionists. Like wtf people literally exist to do that as a job why arent they using them
I don't think any nutritionist would agree with the weights they want the girls to be. That is why the girls are just eating cherry tomatoes or I also heard eating one yam per day. They are all getting plenty of excercise with all the hours of daily dance practise, fitness trainer isn't really going to be helpful. Bottom line, it's an unhealthy weight to maintain for the majority.
We can agree to disagree. A nutritionist isn't going to be of much help in maintaining an unhealthy weight, as they are not going to advocate eating only 300-500 calories per day.
It's high time the k-pop industry is exposed, challenged and revolutionized. We need more artists speaking on these issues. The things that these companies do and ask from human beings are all human rights violations. It's just sad.
The people on the top of the kpop industry chain need to be revolutionised. If their minds don’t change, nothing will, and so many things will happen behind closed doors even if from the outside it looks like things are improving.
7:10 but that's the thing! If an idol is able to sing and dance amazingly, who cares what they weigh?! Idols like Hwasa and the girl (i forgot her name!) from Purple Kiss got so much hate for being "chubby" but, they're still beautiful and sound and dance amazing! It's such a shame that people are so obsessed with idols having to be stick-thin.
that last sentence ashley said about professionalism, man that's really what they said over and over like I was just an audience watching korean shows and I went from "wtf no?" to "um yea probably?" I couldn't imagine how it would feel for the actual trainees, hearing those words said to you multiple times a day. That episode on Sixteen where they sh*t on jihyo for not maintaining her weight, called her unprofessional because of that and how she deserved to be in lower ranks because of that, dmn
In short, being a trainee will not be so easy. I salute you all who are so passionate and determined and are working really hard. You people are so inspiring, I love you. Thank you for being there, making me happy and keeps me going with life with a smile and a happy heart.
I agree. The industry is so fixated with looking perfect. This topic just touched the surface and its just weight issues. They should have another topic about how entertainment pressures idol to have a perfect face, surgery, etc. which has trickled into normality in S. Korea. It's sad when you hear ur SK friends say their parents think they don't have a BF is because they are ugly and need to fix themselves. It's disheartening to hear this and also see them go through low self-esteem and thinking that its all because don't have pretty external features that equates to not having a bf.
There's something that suddenly came to my mind. In my country, minors are the superior interest by law. So their rights are placed highly above anyone else. One the most important rights is ✨ Health✨, apart from education. So, if there were companies here like kpop agencies -starving kids and teens on purpose, for the sake of show business, more than one executive would go to jail.
hi dive studios i just want to say after watching this get real ep with heejun, i was binge watching every single clip he had in american idol and interviews after. he's so hilarious i love him
All this trainee life, idol's and the certain image they have to keep and kpop industry as a whole seem super toxic from outsiders pov mad respect for all the idols out there
ah peniel trained only for a while in cube so maybe he didnt experienced the journal/diary thing as hes entered to abut to debut team right away but glad hes outspoken and can speak for his right. not sure about beast/4minute era either they got to use phone right away but i guess starting from BTOB onward in cube they get to use phone right off their debut cuz certain company still confiscated their phone until they no longer rookie artist etc etc.
I struggled a lot with ed growing up, the whole weighing in front of others is triggering horrible flashbacks 😅 That's terrible, I can totally see how it would mess someone up mentally and emotionally, specially if they are preteens or teenagers.
Wow, that is stressful having to be weighed in front of ur peers!🙁 Man, I tell u "diet culture" can cause people to form eating disorders. It is so important to learn how to properly fuel your body & cherish it especially as a dancer/idol.🤗 So sad BM & Ashley had to go through that experience!😥 Thanks for addressing this sensitive topic guys!💜💜
Wow I remember Heejun because I watched American Idol and he was best friend with Philip Philips! He even did a song by Michael Bolton and I was blown away! hahaha gosh, this makes me feel old ~~
This is too ㅠㅠ A lot of idol really stress about their weight ㅠㅠ I wish company would take a lot of care of this issue seriously. For me as long as ur bmi is normal then its okay :/
Yeah, I hear that Kpop trainee’s live with a lot of restrictions and rules! I guess it all part of the mindset - “if you can’t handle a few restrictions while training, how can you handle the stress of being famous?” 🤔🤷🏼♂️
I dont understand why being overweight is unprofessional If you want to perform. The point of a performance isnt how much you weight but your singing, dancing, stage presence and the like "aura"
I'm so glad to hear idols recognizing how toxic the "diet" culture is in the industry. I feel so bad for all the young men and women in the industry who are being subjected to this mistreatment. No weight is unprofessional, and idols will always be attractive to the fans regardless of their weight, I guarantee you that. I hope they can all get to a point where they have a healthy relationship with food, weight and body image.
For this sedentary soul of mine, just getting into a dance practice room for 2 hours would be enough physical activity or exercise to lose some weight. I'd be done for the week. But my own nutritional plan? No one can take it away from me. So, I definitely agree with Peniel: you can't pretend to lose weight by eating salads, and killing yourself with so much physical activity, like idols are used to. You have to be consequent with your actions. How can someone try to be happy and cheerful all the time if they're not healthy? Please, do something to change the system! People's health is at risk. Can't you stand for yourselves? 😭💔
would never understand how risking your health just to look skinny would ever be "professional". if they really wanted to pursue such image, then at least teach trainees how to do it healthily 😫😔
Wow... there's laughing to try and find humor in it but it's obviously not funny. I'm sorry for all the trainees. Us who follow Kpop are well aware of all of this but hearing it doesn't get any easier.
It’s called it creates an unhealthy culture and can lead people to eating and mental disorders with food. Anorexia and bulimia are real problems. Binge eating or starving yourself… it’s not healthy. Also muscle weights more than fat. They should have a nutritionist or doctor and an exercise person teach them balance. You should be able to enjoy food and not be on extreme diets or meal plans and exercise. Dancing is exercise. It makes me sad and I wonder how many kpop guys and gals have struggled with it.

''If they're gonna make people lose weight they gotta teach them how to do it properly, not just eat leaves''
I couldn't agree more ❤️
I love how Peniel with the most years in the industry offered that balance in the conversation. He's probably seen so many instances of unhealthy body issues over the years.

Lmao Han Heejun is such a mood.

After School Club host

"no this my ipad" Peniel channeling a 12 year old oh my god XD

@@visualbeauty3427 i rlly dont think its the sk gov's fault, it's the public and the society there that pushes the beauty standards to this extent

Exactly people honestly should just worry about themselves instead of making people fit this “ideal” standard

I think you missed the point.
I just love how this show gets real and breaks it down on everyday topics. Let's us see other sides of kpop idols
"No one wants to see that" I would like to see it. I would like to see healthy weight idols, who are happy, whose bodies move with them.
I think conversations like this should happen more often just to bring greater attention to how unfair expectations can be

"it's unprofessional to gain weight"
wow, that's some heavy and painful statement
In that case Ive been unprofessional for a lot of times loll
The mask of han her jun: it's what which matches to BamBam's solo album riBBon. The dancers even wore those while dancing in one stage.

entertainment companies will get every type of staff but not a nutritionist or a trainer 🤡
my first memory of han heejun was as a child watching him ask will.i.am. for fergie’s number on national television
As someone who know Heejun just from ASC, hearing him cussing just blew my mind
The reality of a trainee 😕
The sacrifices of becoming an Idol. This is so sad to hear. My respect to all Idols go 📈📈
now that ive seen mark of nct together with dreamies in eric's podcast, i badly wanna see johnny in this one
