    This was such a fun project and we couldn’t be happier with the results. It’s a great place to share with family and friends and we love watching our children enjoy it. @alexkalish1 3 роки тому +3

      @@joshuaganzermiller5213 This was one of the more overwhelming decisions. There are endless options with Palliser and multiple grades of fabric and leather that at the higher levels can be as much as the chair itself. This one again came down to budget and practicality. I have 2 little kids and didn’t want to spend a fortune on these so we went with a “leather look” option called Dax Charcoal that looks great, easy to clean and didn’t break the bank.

    Great basement and theater! Ignore the height comments. Most people let rules of thumb ruin their experiences! They know very little about head occlusion when you have 3 to 4 seats and don''t understand how you can lose fidelity when you are ear level with two rows- little extra height can actually add to experience as long as they do not interfere with Atmos speakers. Great theater. Do you plan to get acoustic panel treatment. Artistic Geometry or GIK are two really good companies. Enjoy!!!

    • @alexkalish1
      @alexkalish1 3 роки тому +2

      Thank you Mel. I had started looking at acoustic panels, a bit overwhelming to be honest. I was hoping to find something off the shelf that fit the space and I could do DIY but haven’t had much luck. Will likely have to look at custom options down the road.

    For those who are upset with the height of the speakers: You haven't heard them . Neither have I. I will give the designers the benefit of the doubt. When you go to a commercial cinema the speakers are not at ear height either. Calibration really makes a huge difference. Also you can always appreciate this epic theater and politely ask WHY the speakers are not at ear height. People are always more receptive to a conversation when you start with positive comments first. Just my $.02

    • @jjchmiel78
      @jjchmiel78 3 роки тому +3

      Nice way of saying his money, he did as he pleases. Simple fact of the matter is ALL audio formats recommend a certain speaker height, ear level, for a reason. Trinnov the king of room correction will tell you to lower those speakers. Any theater room designer worth their salt will tell you to lower those speakers. When building a room from scratch there is no excuse not to put the speakers in their most optimal position and not rely so much on room correction. Simple as that.

    • @keepingupwiththejones2933
      @keepingupwiththejones2933 3 роки тому +3

      @@jjchmiel78 you won't get disagreement from me. I just think there is tactful way to go about it. He probably did not do as he please based upon the placement of the speakers. My guess would be the speaker placement was compromised by something in the wall at one spot which then it would/could make sense for all of the horizontal bed to be at or near the same height for panning effects. My guess would be either sewer or water which isn't easy to re-route. If the issue was in the front wall , could have built out a baffle wall but that would have decreased available space in the room. Every project comes with its own challenges, budget being one of them. Even in a space such as this there is still a budget. I had a bigger issue honestly with projector choice and not using separates for audio. My guess is with all the expenses of the rest of the basement you have to cut expenses down a little where you can.

    • @hstudio30
      @hstudio30  3 роки тому +1

      Sometimes its not always about whats in the books, im sure it sound alot better than alot of peoples setups done by the books. Every room is different, every ear is different. I think if he had dropped the front speakers..he would have struggled with screen being too low? I guess we will hear from Alex soon. 👌🍻😉

    Another great tour of an amazing theater! An apartment while waiting for your new place... that's a good idea, technically I'm homeless as of next Wednesday when I close on the sale of my current house. Good news is I'm traveling for work at the moment so it doesn't matter. I'm planning on moving in or at least camping out in the new place when I return on 8/28 whether it's finished or not! It was supposed to be done in June so I'm tired of waiting!

      @@hstudio30 I like the bar, I made my theater room as large as possible so I don't really have space left over to do anything quite that nice. I do at least have space for the exercise room however.
      Yes, shortages on labor and materials due to Covid have caused a lot of delays. I also think my builder was doing too many things in series instead of parallel. The tile guy was, "coming next week" for six weeks and in the mean time he didn't even call in the electricians. After I jumped on him about it, progress started being made and things got done while waiting for the tile. When I left on this trip, power was on and the septic was started last week. I'm hoping the plumbing will be working when I get back to Texas but there is a porta potty out front so I'm moving in regardless! The slab was poured last October, I'm really sick of waiting! The bank even called and said the construction loan expires Sept 17 so it needs to be done and certified so that loan can be converted to a mortgage. I have to say I'm really starting to get pissed off, it's really frustrating!

    Nice looking room but so frustrated with it. I just can't understand with all the money and effort to put something like this together, why IGNORE the audio format recommendations for best audio. It is not just this theater but so so many of these tours. They built it, yet still put the base layer of speakers way to high above ear level. Now they don't have proper height separation from the ceiling speakers, so they are not realizing the full potential of Atmos and DTSX. Proper placement would have had zero impact on cost, yet dramatically improve performance. Such a shame.

      Thanks for the input mate, but sometimes its not always about whats in the book and specs, every room is different, every ear is different and sometimes you have to sacrifice sertain things in a build, which im sure Alex soon will reply with. What would you have done differently?

      @@hstudio30 Since you ask:
      A 5:07 you see the speaker wall cutouts for the LCR with the tops being inline with the door jam meaning about 7 feet high. That would place the tweeter about 6' high. That is not quite, but almost double as high as they should be. At 6:11 you see the screen and the bottom is just above the subs and wall outlets. There is PLENTY of room to lower those closer to or at ear height like they are supposed to be. Behind the screen, custom built room, cost nothing more to place them properly, no excuse.
      At 5:37 you see the rears. Those should be dropped to where the bottoms are just above the back headrests. That is easily another foot. At 7:15 you see the same thing with the side surrounds. Those could have easily been dropped to be at same height as rears.
      Another thing I would try if I was the theater owner in that room is moving one of the subs to opposite rear corner and see if I could get better bass response. And then flip corners to see if doorway has an effect on which corners are used to give the room the best bass.
      Speakers being so high makes Atmos and DTSX a complete waste. There is no separation of effects. Might as well been all ceiling speakers. If placing speakers that high, save money and just do a good 7.1 setup. Basement is awesome, room is nice, speaker placement is a shame and such a waste because of free consideration and placement would have improved the room audio so dramatically. If you don't agree, please send manufacture literature where they recommend their speakers are best listened to off axis and their vertical dispersion is greater than their horizontal dispersion and where having the speakers 1 foot above with alone 3 feet above ear level is better.
      Yes sometimes compromises must be made. Youthman is a great example of having patio doors on one side and room entrance door in the way of the rear and placing speakers before the advent of Atmos. Custom built room from scratch affords one the opportunity to do it right. This owner is not alone. It is a repeated offense in these theater tours. It seems as if "look cool room we are going to place aesthetics above all else, damn the importance of audio in the theater" across so many UA-cam tours. It is a shame all that effort went into this and they end up compromising the audio so much. It can be fixed with some patch drywall work and paint.

      Unfortunately we had a concrete foundation wall to contend with where the screen is located. It comes halfway up the wall. The Triad speakers required more clearance than we had available so we had to place the speakers higher than desired. I’m 8ft tall though and prefer to watch all my movies standing up so it works for me…🙂

      I get where your coming from but its all up to the individual owners knowledge, taste, budget and list goes on..yes there are specs for better audio etc that should be followed but not everyone is into the books of things. Im sure if we sat in that room we would be still be blown away. These room tour videos are to share and inspire others, giving them ideas, it is NOT to educate them about right and wrong etc..hope this makes sense. 👍
