  • Hey y’all and welcome back to our dumpster diving channel! We had a great time checking some local apartments today to see what usable items we could rescue from the trash. Pretty awesome to have found a potential backboard for Alex’s basketball project.. we didn’t expect to find something that could work so quickly!
We also found a brand new bread maker and, unlike the Keurig, we got it to work and ended up making a loaf of French bread with it!! It was a lot of fun to test out and we think we’ll keep it to use again.
As always, thank you so much for watching and I hope you have a wonderful day! Happy diving xoxo

Howdy y’all! This was a fun dive, especially because we found a potential backboard for Alex’s basketball project (that was quick!) AND we found a brand new bread maker! We had fun testing it out once we got home. Hope you enjoy this video and see you next time. Movin’ on!

A note on the breadmaker. I saw Alex used active dry yeast. In a breadmaker, instant yeast works better. You can also find yeast for breadmachines, but it is just instant yeast. Your bread will rise better with the instant. Happy baking!

That is so cool to have found that breadmaker I was so lucky my neice found me a Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer with lots of attachments and a flour shield and grinder and shredder all in a box on a curb side for free it works perfectly I was so happy had been saving for one but always had to use the money I saved for something really more important I had bought a dough hook and a paddle in a thrift store in mint condition he have used it several times I'm a happy owner of a Kitchen Aid stand Mixer for free.😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊

Always wait for the bread to cool at least an hour before cutting into it. You can also just use the bread maker to mix and proof your dough and bake it in the oven, it can also make pizza dough. I had no idea a bread maker could make jam. Maybe you can make orange marmalade in it.

Good you checked the pockets on that suitcase.. Oh memories.. Years ago, when traveling, my suitcase wheel broke, I threw it out & bought a new one. Totally FORGOT I stashed, on another travel, a jade & gold ring my Uncle gave me; he brought it back from Japan while in the service . And I threw that suitcase out in haste as we had a flight to catch! Grrr..
😊Ya never know what you might find!!!

Hi guys, saw the suitcase and wondered if you’ve thought of rescuing them and donating to the department that is associated with foster kids. Most of the kids just drag their stuff around in garbage bags. Thanks for all you do.

Yes, we have! But this suitcase wasn't in good enough condition. It wasn't really visable in the video but it had a large crack across the top and tears on the liner. Thanks so much for watching :D

Just a thought. We moved a couple of years ago from a house to a condo. It was a fairly new community. Ours was about half way through. With the rest to be built or finished. There were two large dumpsters always full. So. As people moved in there was no place to put stuff they didn’t have room for. I found a lot of usable furniture and other stuff. Maybe keep an eye out.

That is an awesome find with the bread maker. I never really liked how the bread cooked in the bread maker so I would do the dough setting and then put it in the bread pan and let it rise again before baking. That is a nice thick piece of plywood should work great for the basketball hoops.

I have this bread maker! I saw someone told you about the yeast. Make sure it's still good or just add a bit more. That always seems to work. Once the dough ball is almost done if it seems too dry, just put a a bit of water in ... a half teaspoon. It should be nice and smooth but not sticky. Mine always seems to need a bit less flour than the re ioe calls for. Happy breading!

The haircut is cute! Congratulations on your new bread maker. Try different types of bread - you'll be amazed at how much fun you'll have. As for jam? You don't need to can jam, though you could I guess. Follow the recipe and if there's jars you won't use up right away just go the old-fashioned route and put a layer of paraffin on top after the jam has cooled. If you make sure that the liquid paraffin has spread all the way around the edges it will preserve the jam. They used to do it this way in the olden days. I have done it myself. Easy-peasy. The paraffin solidifies of course and when you're ready to use it you just lift the solid disc off of the top and eat your jelly or jam. If you want some help doing it just let me know! I live in the Metroplex and would be happy to help. You can also make freezer jam. And you can just plain cook the fruit down a bit and then freeze it. It will be the same as if you are buying frozen fruit at the grocery.

To make a softer loaf of bread, be sure to sift the flour into a bowl first, _then_ measure the 3 1/4 cups or whatever from that bowl. Lift the sifted flour into the measuring cup spoon by spoon, add into another bowl, whisk in other dry ingredients. If you just take the four straight from the bag, it winds up being too much (tough loaf.) Makes a big difference!

My other very basic advice is to use fairly fresh flour and new yeast. The flour especially gets me as I dont bake often and it changes over time... changes the density of finished project. While it may be safe to eat it really does have a best by time for baking, especially texture things like bread. Just curious to even try the same recipe with a few of these tricks. I know others say to let the bread rest but I still catch it warm as yum fresh hot bread should be the best!
I dont adjust the salt I follow recipes for baking but then some unsalted butter and a sprinkle of salt, flaky if u have it, on bread machine bread really brings it up a level! Doesn't taste salty, give it a try.
Yum, tempted to get my bread machine out! Best to program to run overnight and have fresh hot bread in the morning. Wake up to that smell...yummo.

    • @lia-liz2012

You're right...no need to let it cool. I've been baking bread for years 40+ and I use unsalted butter but I use 1 tsp. Salt per loaf. I also mix in 5 tsp. Sugar ( for 2 loaves) because it makes the yeast activate better. I've never used a bread maker but that looked very good! Over the years I've noticed that flour has changed. White Lilly and bread flour seem to do better but it's still not as good as back in MY day! My family loves it. I even braid it sometimes. 😊

How cool was that to find a brand new breadmaker. Too bad the accessories fell out. lol But, no biggie. Next time when grabbing a good find, maybe it'll just make you remember to double check around the item for any extra parts, etc. I bet those people contacted amazon because the item was scratched and amazon sent a replacement and they were told to just keep the item. We've had that happen. I'm glad you found that, I'm sure you will get lots of use out of it. Made me want to get my breadmaker out and use it. Haven't forr a while, but, I use to make bread all the time. Cool that you found the plywood for your project. Hopefully it works great for that, as lumber can be very costly. Hi, I always love to watch your vlogs from The Netherlands. Can you go back to that dumpster and pick up the things that fell out of the bread maker machine box? They can be useful.

Love you guys, y'all crack me up with your joking. How great to find a bread maker, bread is very expensive these days! I love my bread maker, I've had it for years. Find a good bread recipe and make your own bread!

Great haul and Great find with the bread maker.
by the way there is such a thing as orange jelly, orange jam, and orange marmalade! if you ever find a large quantity of oranges again you should try to make some.

Nice dive. Awesome find with that bread maker!😮😊You can definitely can those oranges & make orange marmalade. Strawberries are risky as one little bad spot will make the whole batch go bad.

It actually got up to around 70 degrees here today (1-29’04) so thinking y’all weren’t actually out diving today. Have y’all been in the newly remodeled Albertson’s? It just looks so awesome now, they’ve really done a nice job.

Just saw the comment about HEB, the closest one to Denton is the one in Frisco, it’s located on Main Street just off the toll road, corner of Main and Legacy. There’s also one in Plano on Spring creek and they are building one on 380 and Gee Rd (423) and construction may have already started on one in Melissa. 😊
