    We just found a leak in 1 of our walls in the livingroom. The hubs does not want to rip the wall out and replace it cause he's worried about how to do it. I really want to remove the wall to get rid of any mildew and damage

    I have been following along since the day 1. We are repairing water damage and renovating a 2006 puma palomino I’m trying to find materials to match what you are using. I have managed to get mostly everything out and identify the what’s wet and why. Having trouble of best order in putting back together I think I’ve watched every video a dozen times

    Great work. Wouldn't a template made of several paper sheets taped together be more accurate and easier to transfer to your final material?
    I've done this with very good results in most of my projects with odd shapes.

    I’m watching your videos because the 10 yo travel trailer I just bought, has a few curiosities . The mystery of mega lap sealant on front cap seam / Straddles the vent fan and skylight.
    All vulnerable if the seam isn’t sealed up and leaks. Mystery lead to suspicion, so I scraped ( scraping , actually I’m not through, that stuff is gooey 🥵) lap sealant from seam/trim and removed skylight . Found a few rusty screws and a few much longer wood crews . ?? And there wasn’t a gaping gap like I thought, afterall . (So why all that lap sealant ? )My suspicion was that the cap meets the fiberglass roof: to put 3M Marine grade adhesive/sealant since that is rock n rolling down the road, maybe keep it from shifting . Yet flexible. To me, lap sealant and screws doesnt give me peace of mind, even if it does keep the water out. It’s hot on the roof - it’s been put off and now I’m having to talk myself into finishing it. What’s your advice after the 3M marine sealant/adhesive cures - can I just use EternaBond tape over the seam , then self tapping screws on the trim . Cover over again ?

    • @fallenintocamping
      @fallenintocamping  Рік тому +2

      Great question-you definitely had a leak if the screw underneath was rusty. I have suspicions that the wood around the vent might be soft, so someone put a longer wood screw in to pull the vent into the roof. You won’t always be able to ‘see’ where the leak is. Sometimes it’s guessing based off signs from around that area. If it were me, I would take that vent off and investigate. If you don’t want to do that, scrape as much of the old sealant off as you can, and apply new self leveling sealant. Don’t skimp, be generous with it. Don’t use eternabond tape-that stuff is like a temporary bandaid. Over time, the sun will case the edges to lift up and create air bubbles underneath, leading water to get trapped inside. It’s great stuff in a bind, but absolutely terrible as a permanent fix

    I see you use many different sheet panels (wall panel, plywood underlayment, etc.) for the walls internally and externally. Does it matter what and where they're used? Under filon, could you use a wall panel or better to use plywood underlayment / something else?

    • @fallenintocamping
      @fallenintocamping  Рік тому

      Yes and no. I really fluctuate for the Interior between 1/8 and 1/4 inch. If I need it to bend, or if it’s an interior wall, I always use 1/8. Ceiling is always 1/4. Floors I try to match whatever thickness is already in the camper, and same with roof thickness

    • @fallenintocamping
      @fallenintocamping  Рік тому

      I use 1/8 for under filon, just because it bends and the manufacturer originally uses 1/8 inch so I want it to be seamless. Think: If you put a 1/4 inch panel beside 1/8 panel, you would have a 1/8 thickness difference and it dosent really look that good

    • @anthonywinge8722
      @anthonywinge8722 Рік тому

      @@fallenintocamping Thanks for the reply, that makes sense but I was more thinking about the type of panel. 1/8” wall paneling vs. 1/8” underpayment. I think of the wall panel as something that has a finished surface on 1 side. It looked like you used that but had the “back” was what you epoxied the filon to. Either way, thanks for the videos.

    You use a 16g nailer with 1 inch nails. Finish nailer? Will a 18g work? Having a problem envisioning them going into metal and holding on the bowed wood but you're the pro not me!! Great video, learned allot!!!! Going to do the interior nose on my Palomino. Guessing I'll be running in to rewatch alot!!!!!

    • @fallenintocamping
      @fallenintocamping  Рік тому

      18 gauge won’t work. I tried 😂 it jammed my nail gun up and broke it. 16 gauge can throw a nail through aluminum no problem. A 16 gauge staple gun is probably better but I don’t have one. Liquid nails also keeps the bow in addition to the nails

      @@briantrusty9906 it’s terrible, stay far away 😂 It’s ok if you have a hole and are in a bind, but never as a permanent solution. It can bubble up in heat and water gets trapped under it…bad situations

    Thank you for your videos! I've been chasing some water damage in the rear wall of my rPod. The trouble with these trailers is that there is no way for the interior panels and flooring to breathe, if they get wet. . I thought I read that it wasn't recommended to use paper backed insulation. What are your thoughts? Thanks!

    • @fallenintocamping
      @fallenintocamping  Рік тому

      Nah paper backed is fine. And even then, there’s only paper on half of it because I split it. If it makes you feel better, they sell unfaced, which is the same thing just without the paper. It’s not like an all aluminum trailer, where the walls will condensate and cause moisture. Most horse trailers are all aluminum and need a different type of insulation, but campers either use r-13 or some type of foam.

    I don't think it would have occurred to me to nail into the aluminum strips. That is why I watch these videos to learn and pick up tips. Did the manufacturer leave out insulation in the front cap?

    • @fallenintocamping
      @fallenintocamping  Рік тому +1

      Some do and some don’t. This camper only had 1 inch space between the walls so it would have been really hard to get it to stay in there while I put the panels up. I probably could have (probably should have) but it was hot and I was tired 😂 The original insulation was like 1/4 of a sheet and I don’t even know if that’s enough to do anything

    • @trentcarbino921
      @trentcarbino921 Рік тому

      @@fallenintocamping Probably too small of a space for insulation to be useful. The heat is horrible so I know how you feel. I've got a few projects going that could have been completed but I bail out of finishing them on a regular basis because of the heat. Be safe and as usual good work.
