Hey Russ, Hope all is well in Jersey. Finally some cooler temps here in Upstate. Question, I’m going to do a light overseed next week. I have a bag of Andersons PGF Complete 16-4 8 fert. Would you use this as your fert for overseed? I really don’t want to invest in another bag of starter fert? I checked out your lawn overseed video from last year. Nice detailed video.
Thurston. Thanks on the video that one was fun to do! 16-4-8 is fine to use. Starter fert has higher P to support seedlings but some people don’t even fert their seed! I’ll be doing spot seeding this month and will be going with PGF-C also. Let me know how it goes, send some pics when it’s up too😀
@@LawnJourneys Send me your email again I also caught the one on fungicides so going to try liquid as opposed to granular. Propiconazole just arrived from Amazon. Your videos are a big help to us cool season people so thanks !
Thanks again Ruben. I'm trying to do more interesting content and not just push out something that people click off of. Its fun to do. Any suggestions? Anything you've done that I can share (ideas etc..., I would surely give you cred). Stay well and enjoy the turf. I love the summer but looking forward to the fall push.
@@LawnJourneys thanks for the feedback Russ. I am currently attempting to grow seed in trays for the purposes of spot repair in the fall. I am also planning to go with liquid fert for the rest of the season. Feel free to use either or none of the those. I am not one for getting credit. I really enjoy seeing content from the northeast of the country.
@@LawnJourneys I agree! Enjoy his content as well and would like to see more. I’m in Upstate NY so his content is beneficial for us cool season people.
Great video Russ. I thought my new sod have a fungus problem a month after it was installed. Had applied the Bio Advanced and two weeks later the Disease Ex. Turns out it wasn't fungus but instead was heat stress from mowing too low before it was fully established. Extra watering helped bring the lawn back and also applied more Disease Ex once it rebounded because of the humidty and extra watering. Haven't had any fungus so far this season which is really odd because the KBG always had it in the past.
Keith: I hear you. You should see north Jersey, lawns are burnt out and many are even worse with tire marks from landscapers you keep cutting nothing. South Jersey is not so bad. I have irrigation, no water restrictions yet, so I'm hanging in their. The fungs crept up on me, maybe I need to start prevention earlier. In any case its just a few spots so fall overseeding will fix it. Your lawn is rocking!
Hey Russ, Nice to see new content. I did battle a little fungus from the humidity and lawn struggled for a bit with some browning. I applied HeadwayG back in July. It’s a challenge with tall fescue. I actually struggled with finding the proper mowing height with my tall fescue and kbg. I was mowing at 4” but finding 3” is best. My grass stated laying over because I was mowing too high and grass was not drying out enough. I have a patch of Poa trivia that I need to reseed over. Would like your suggestions in killing this patch off and reseed. Thanks again for good info.
Thurston: I cut my KBG really high one season and it did the same thing, starting laying over on itself and looking bad. Maybe a more powerful mower would of helped me? I have Poa in my back yard, it usually fades by summer but I should try to knock it out. I believe the most popular options are to nuke the entire area and reseed, although I'm not convinced that effort is worth it. I know other also try Atrazine based herbicides (see below ), but I've never tried it. If you use it or something else and it works, please share. www.amazon.com/dp/B007CP32UQ/?ref_=cm_wl_huc_item
@@LawnJourneys Thanks for the reply. I did invest in a new mower- Honda.. You are right on the Poa, it does green up in the summer heat but comes right . I may try digging these patches out and reseeding since they are small area. Hope for the best. By the way, GCI Turf Academy grass seed is really good if you’re every shopping for a good quality seed. My lawn has never been this thick and green. Thanks again.
@@LawnJourneys Hey Russ, Would you apply Andersons 16-4-8 to your lawn now? My last app of Stress Blend was on 7/25. I do like Yard Mastery but I have a bag of PGF Complete I did not use. I do plan to do a light overseed in September. Also, I’ve had this bag of Andersons for over a year. Do you know shelf life for ferts?
@@thurstonr9929 I believe shelf life of fert is long. I wouldn’t hesitate using a bag from last year. I did another round of Stressblend last week and probably move onto PGF 16-4-8 in mid September. We’re back in the 90’s today so summer stress is still running. With that said it’s almost September and if your ready to seed and fert I’d put the PGF out since it has Phos. I’ll be doing spot repair seeding mid September and laying out PGF soon after that.
Is it true u can’t use the hose in sprayer in heat. ? How do I apply it when it’s 100 degrees in south Texas. I get fungus every year. And the disease x doesn’t even touch it. But I’m gonna use the blue stuff this year but don’t want to ruin the grass cause it’s hot.
Instructions do say not to use during periods of stress or drought. I'm irrigated so I haven't had a problem. Maybe you can do a test patch and watch it for a few days? Check out this thread on the lawn forum, some are spraying in the evening and watering in with no problems: thelawnforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=11986
Rust and dollar spots which I thought was heat stress. I up my watering think its the heat and it got worst. I Apply bio advanced 10day and about to do disease ex soon.
Good move. I've done the same thing, thinking its heat stress and then finding out that I'm wrong! Apply at curative rate. Any damage you can overseed in the fall. I have a few spots that got away from me this year. Appreciate your contributing to the conversation.
Yes, its funny because when I do see fungus its usually in the same areas. Going to start prevention earlier next year. In any case, I think I knocked it down fast. Fall overseed will restore in the impacted areas. Thanks for chiming in.

Is it safe to apply Azoxy at the low rate just before an overseed?
Yes It’s ok to apply fungicide at seeding or after seedling emergence. Good luck with your project 👍
