Thanks for uploading these videos so quickly. My wife's aunt lives in Mayfield. The tornado destroyed her home but she survived and is not hurt. We did not understand how much devastation there was until you see these drone videos. Hopefully federal assistance comes to help those in need.

My son and his wife and new baby live there. When he messaged me this morning and said that they were ok....I had no idea what had happened. I am in Northern Michigan and woke up to the sound of thunder....but had no idea....so thankful for Father's protection.

This is the next town and county over from me. It got pretty scary in my town. I heard one of my Amish neighbors lost everything on Highway 58 right before it hit Mayfield. Many deaths are being reported. Thanks Brett for the coverage, Mayfield is totally unrecognizable. Prayers for all.
Drones seem to give a whole new perspective on just how damaging storms like this can be. My heart goes out to the folks in Mayfield. Just amazing, yet sad, footage.

I have seen wind over the past few years like UK have never seen. Losing power and home damage is becoming normal. I lost half my home a few years ago to wind damage. It was a micro burst. The new norm.

I live just a couple hours away from this town, in Leitchfield. Last night was terrifying, I am praying for the families that lost their homes and loved ones. I am so sorry for what you all have gone through.
My grandparents are visiting my family in Ashland rn, there house has luckily not been destroyed but they might have to move somewhere else now

It was more than this town. It went through 4 states including my own town. Most damage was done there in Kentucky and in Arkansas.
They should start with their State Representative/Senator. To Build Back Better.

Just think of the horror these the folks felt who miraculously survived this.
I'm in Canada but back in the late '70s I was employed by Ingersoll-Rand Canada and got to visit Mayfield several times; what is now the Progress Rail used to be the I-R Centac factory. A pretty little town that is sad to see in it's condition today. Best wishes to all there and condolences to those who have lost friends and family.
My God, some of the worst Tornado damage i've seen. This footage gives you a perspective showing how widespread and devastating the Tornado was.

I still haven't figured out which state we're in. I've seen this same scenery from all four states the "big one" went through. Been since 1974 since one tornado traveled that far (I believe).

My Mamaw lives there, her whole life. Takes care of everyone, is the town Notary, church worker, husband does all the landscaping. My heart is broken. Her home is still standing and she is alive, so I'm thankful. Hold your family close y'all, some people don't get to tonight😭

Been through this a couple of times. I was single in the military and didnt own much, so I didnt lose much, many others lost everything. I have been through 12 actual storms. 8 of the 12 resulted in structural damage of either my residence or workplace. That is what happens when you live in IN, TN, NC, KS, OH, WI. NC got the hurricanes as well. So sorry for those that lost loved ones and their homes. These guys chasing and covering the weather saved many lives.

@@brettstuart4000 as someone who grew up in Kentucky and lived in both Ohio and Indiana for all of my 24 years out of 25 on this earth I'm afraid he's probably right. I've been in 4 storms, and helped clean up Dayton Ohio a few years ago after it was hit with a large tornado. It is in fact pretty common in these states. I recently moved to Texas and they're an issue here as well.

This type of weather wouldn't have been considered normal during the day... It certainly isn't normal having nocturnal tornadoes... They require the heat convection of the day

I just can’t get over the fact that I was in Mayfield at school just a little over 24 hours ago when everything was fine. I went to give my aunt and uncle some water and stuff because they don’t have power or running water currently and seeing what has happened is just heartbreaking. I didn’t even go near the center of Mayfield where the worst damage is.

@@jonnydanger7181 my aunt and uncle are ok, they are getting to use some of their neighbors power from their generator. And yes people are getting shelter. From what I know the mayfield high school is letting people stay there and my old Elementary school is open for people to get supplies and take showers.

My home was destroyed one year ago while I was asleep. My neighbors dragged me to safety. I will help raise money for these poor folks. I was not allowed back inside for a long time because it was far too dangerous.

Seeing the concrete slabs from homes completely leveled is very sad. Knowing that people were most likely inside these homes. Hopefully not many people lost their lives but It doesn't seem like the case in parts of Mayfeild.

This is so overwhelming it almost makes one go numb looking at it all.
I have extended family (Dever) - cousins in Mayfield. I do pray they are unharmed.
My sympathy for what your family is and will endure. The destruction was all night and across many states. If you are somewhere safe, keep calling till you hear from all of them. Even if they and (and their place) are fine, they will need to talk about this and will be glad that you care.
That Tornado 🌪 broke the record for longest Tornado path in recorded history at 223 Miles & crossed 4 states!
And the path was over a mile wide as it went along.
The National Weather Service has to verify that. Likely it was a family of violent tornadoes whose paths coincided. Some historic tornadoes that were once believed to have 100+ mile paths have turned out to be tornado families.
It wasn’t one tornado, though. It was a series of tornadoes.

From looking at that structural debris, I'm guessing it was at least an EF4. For a wedge of that strength to last that long and cover that much ground at night, in December, is nothing short of unreal. Great footage, btw.
The Quad-State? Had to be an F5. No doubt about it
@@seanyager3177 An EF5 is very difficult to attain. Damage surveyors will need to find damage consistent with enough power to not only sweep houses clean, but ones that are secured to their foundations through proper building protocols. Just from this footage alone, it was hard to see such damage. I think I saw maybe one or two structures that might have been swept, at least partially. We'll have to wait for the surveyors to analyze everything, which could take a while.

I live in ky about 100 miles from there and this is not tornado season. Its usually in the spring. Shocking tornado in december..The weather is 60 degrees now 20 degrees above normal and it is really windy here. I'm afraid another one coming

... and realize that people may have been sheltering in some of those buildings that were completely demolished!
Who ever took this video of the devastation upon this town, did a good job of showing it. May all recover from this, and my prayers are with you, lost ones, and recovery from it.
With this visual, immediate action can be taken to bring relief, funds, and whatever it takes to start the rebuilding process today, Saturday 12/11/21. Not tomorrow, the next day, or in the next week or two when someone can clear there agenda to get there physically…today 12/11/21.

@@patriciaegan7244 You may be too young to remember the Pennsylvania tornadoes, also at night, in the 1980's, we received damage to our home but many people lost EVERYTHING, or died. Nobody recovered, they just started over. I was stationed in Europe in the military, and it made international news within minutes. I felt helpless because I could not come home. I've also personally been through 8 tornadoes... And I have glass in my neck and shoulder that can't be removed. Tornadoes are totally unreal, as are earthquakes and hurricanes which... I've also been through.

It was a terrible night even just watching (from California) the small youtubers who did cover it as it was happening. It is a relief to hear anyone survived.

I was in my home when it was destroyed by a tornado in Madisonville in 2005. It's just east of Mayfield. I know how horrifying it is, but that happened during the daytime. I can't imagine what it was like for people trying to take shelter in the dark. Just know that we love you and so many people are ready to do anything we can.
I am physically sick watching this I lived just 30 miles from this beautiful little town....

Cry when you have to. Talk about it till you don't need to any more. 9-11 taught me to grieve publicly and I am glad because I got through most of it. (The pain and shock was deep, wide and layered). This kind of tragedy has a way of sneaking into little corners of the psyche and hiding. This is a long term thing for your community. We are more connected than we usually are aware of. Be careful when the "extra" losses show up (the things or people you find out about later).

Thank you. I used to live in Mayfield. My daughter moved from there a year ago to Murray, which wasn't hit. The apartment complex we both used to live in appears to be gone, as it was in the south east part of town. Very sad. Prayers for all affected.

You are so very right. I'm from this area and have seen numerous tornadoes and whites and blacks work together to bring back town. Even way back in the 50s the town next to one I grew up in had tornado thst only hit black side of town. My white parents and other whites spent weeks digging thru debris and cleaning up this black neighborhood.

I grew up in Indiana & in all my years I lived there, we only had tornadic weather in the spring. Never in winter. I'm also old, so this was many decades ago.
We are not in peak season, but winter tornadoes are not unusual in Southern states. Much less likely to happen in upper midwest in Dec, but even Illinois gets the rare December tornado

The storm chaser said this twister on the ground 4/6 hours, three states 200 miles longest on ground Trac recorded,with the damage and length ( some days wind at 300 mph at a point) ef 5 is my guess. This twister did alot of damage in other cities as well.

I live 3 miles from Mayfield, but I live 3 miles from Mayfield in England, not USA! But its still so sad to see all the damage and I am deeply sorry for all those affected!

A gigantic vacuum is the only way I think of a tornado. This monster was on the ground for 200 miles and can't imagine how wide it was. I'm sure people will be finding debris and personal things many miles away from where they stared. Plus, there's nothing to hold things down on the roads or parking lots so debris tends to pile up on the sides. I'm sure there was some stuff on the roads but not as much as you would think.
How did the roads get cleaned out so fast? Even parking lots

Guess people got real busy, they got hit @930pm & I’m pretty sure they were up all night
I also wondered. I do remember last year here in UT we had an 'east winds' storm of 100mph + and within a two-block neighborhood, I counted 62 huge trees that were toppled. Houses smashed, all roads blocked. And within 6 hrs all the neighbors had pitched in with their chain saws, etc, to open up the streets. My heart aches for the people affected by this ungodly swath of tornadoes.

I live 30 miles from where Ida hit land in Louisiana, I lost my roof, trees snapped and uprooted everywhere,.. and I have never seen destruction like what this tornado did.

The whole town has to be built from the ground up, unbelievable.
A tornado came through our town last March and did a horrendous amount of damage. They're still cleaning up and will be for a long time. I feel so bad for that state and all those people. I'm going to look for an organization I can contribute to that can help them.
