RIP Toys R Us thanks for the memories 🛒
Sounds like Thurl Ravenscroft was the voice of Geoffrey. Gary Owen's read the copy.
Toys ‘R’ Us of Matteson lasted from 1982 to 2018.
Wow! What a throwback!!😅😅
Voiced by Thurl Ravenscroft and Gary Owens.
The original Toys R Us. Gone, but not forgotten.
👍👍👍👍I don't wanna grow-up, I'm a Toy's R us kid. from bikes to games to video games. it's the biggest toy store there is. I don't wanna grow-up, cause baby if I did/the girl HITS that ball...I wouldn't be a toy's r us kid. you are an 80's kid, if you remember that one. LOL LOL I was 14 when that one aired.
I thought I dreamt this up when I was younger, but you manged to find a hided piece of my lost memories! Thank you so much, fella!

Poor Matteson, not what it used to be. But neither are a lot of south suburbs. Like being from an alternate and much better dimension.
Matteson isn’t even a sliver of a pale shadow of what it once was. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say it’s dead. That mall and the area around it was iMatteson’s heart and soul. Its death was even worse because folks watched it happen gradually. Once that first anchor store left it was a domino effect, the outer stores started to close up, the other anchors left, then the stores in the mall rapidly closed, and at the end it was just Carson’s and literally just a few stores inside the mall. I liked Lincoln Mall far more than Orland Square.
Yep. I grew up in Olympia Fields.. still go down to the South Suburbs to see my parents.. driving down Rt. 30 is so depressing. Everything is GONE.
@@CathyBill It’s literally all just gone now, alnost like none of it had ever been there. I’ve had folks tell me you gotta be exaggerating when you say that, believe me I wish I was. There’s no other way to put it. Everything moved further West after the mall died.
Evel Knievel made an appearance in the 1970s at a Toyrsus. Around 1976. I will find the video and post it when I find it.
I wish someone had footage of this, because I'm now curious on if Donkey Kong was throwing barrows or not, specially at a Pre-Mario Mario. 😉😂🤣
My 1982 Geoffrey from Toys "R" Us face flashlight is bulbless nowadays.
Gold!
Toys R Us are GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREAT!
Kinda sounds like Thurl Ravenscroft doing the voice (Tony the Tiger).
The question now is, who voiced Gigi and Baby Gee?
Geoffrey the giraffe has no gloves.
Some moments of my childhood I'd rather forget.
You must have had a lame childhood.
@@sjdrifter72 Yeah I guess you could say that.
The commercial itself was from 1976 which was known for the iconic Christmas commercials like they did in the movie “Cobra” with Sylvester Stallone.
I don’t think so. It shows a 1982 copyright at the bottom of the screen.
@@DAMusic-qu2ecyeah, and Donkey Kong and The Masters of the Universe didn't debut till the 80's
@@KenDAKL4everThis is an alternate version, as they had a template they could use and all they did was add guest stars and a store address and dubbed it, multiple stores used this commercial as early as the 70s
Sadly the store in Matteson is now a Discount Rugs and Furniture store
I’m a five nights at Freddy’s fan but I seen this everywhere!
you're joking, Toys R Us was there when i was only 7 years old from 2006 before it went out of business back in 2018 i'm sure glad i have good memories back then.
Gran hallazgo
they spelled nintendo wrong
Isn't this a Ruby Spears animation
Donkey Kong FTW
It was probably just an old fashioned gorilla costume.
@@williamcrowe2576 Yea probably lol
I cosign with the thought that that might be Thurl doing Geoffrey, and man, that giraffe does not sound right with a voice that deep...
Say are there any more toys r us grand opening commercials
The backwards R (Я) in "Toys Я Us"... Kiddie writing?... Or Russian? 🤔🤔🤔🤔
The company wanted to simulate kiddie writing with the backwards R.
@@bryanloveseighties - But unwittingly led to some wags to refer to it as "Toys Ya Us" ('ya' is the pronunciation for the Russian Я).
I wondered that too, thought it was some Cold War joke.
Toysrus 1964
Venture capitalists killed Toys R Us. I miss that store so much. I'm so glad that my children got to experience it before it was capture and destroyed.
I gotta bad feeling for Strawberry Shortcake.
