My grandma used to sing this as a lullaby for my younger brother when I was young still enchanting and still imagine my grandma singing it I really missed her
I'm an Indian, and I never liked western music because I listened to 2000s and later music. Ever since I heard Brian Hydan, Neil Sedaka, .... I felt apologetic to myself that I judged western music without listening to these gems. West is truly best.
This version was released in June 1962, and my memory of it takes me back to summer camp in Pennsylvania. Sanford Hall was a big barn on camp grounds where all sorts of activities took place, including mixers between the boys and girls camps. One of the counselors played DJ, spinning the 45 as young teen boys and girls (aged 13-14) held each other close, and slow danced across the wood floor.
I remember when this song came over the transistor radios in 1962. And even then thought "man this is romantic". Summertime was notorious for the straying of steady school time relationships. This song speaks of heading off the possibility with letters "sealed with a kiss ", and ending very fittingly and perfectly with an emphatic 3 " sealed with a kiss ".. The surname 'Hyland' also meant something to me as my paternal grandmother ( whom I never got to know, in fact aside from a few pictures even my dad never got to know her due to early death ), her maiden name was "Hyland". She was from Norway.
SWEET JESUS, i am 54 know and my mother said this was our song and when she was going to europe i would sing this song from my heart. LORD JESUS i sing this song today so one day i will see her and hold her as she doesn't want anything to do with me. my heart yearns to hold her and say mom I LOVE U.

One of my favorites of my teen years. I liked to hear this song and did so frequently as it was played on the radio. Nice to hear again and enjoy it once more.
A powerful song from my childhood, and in spite of all the great songs that have come out since, I would still put it in my top ten of all-time favourites.
A touching teenager's song, with some sweet lyrics. I love 'I'll send you all my dreams'. I also like the straightforward way Mr Hyland sings - the absence of false histrionics gives the performance its charm. Thanks for posting
In love at camp and listening to this just takes me back sitting on the bus as a young 13 year old! Like the others here I will never forget the endless supply of beautiful fresh music playing on radio stations year after year after year. The list just goes on & on!
I was 12 when this song was released and for some reason it popped into my head recently, so I searched youtube and here it is. It's such an amazing channel and I've yet to be disappointed with finding a song or tv show from the past.
Nobody sings this song as good as Brian Hyland, & I adore the lyrics. If I remember right he had the first version out in 1962. It sort of makes me sad right now because I am Thinking of my loving 潍坊 over in China. I hope this summer flies by because I can't wait to hold her in my arms and get a real kiss in September. I'll send her the link to this and seal it with a kiss. They knew how to write songs with romantic meanings back in those days. Thanks so much for putting this on here.
I agree, I'm 23 and I grew up with this music, and song. I remember when my boyfriend and I were working on getting back together in 2010 (we dated for a little in high school), he went away to basic training in Missouri for that summer for the Coast Guard, and I played this song during that summer when I missed him.
yes, the harmonica just does it all!!! I heard this song yesterday out of the blue during a radio talk show break and....oh my...that really is a beautiful song!!!! I miss those days...i was 10 when this came out
My father used to sing this song to us, it was around 1987 ++. Evergreen song, keeping all the sweet memories. He is 66 now, and still sometimes sing to his grandchildrens.
I was on holiday in Isle of Man,a popular holiday for Brits in 1960s (no long or short flights abroad in these days) when this great song came out.My best friend and his girl friend, the only girl he ever had and married, would phone each other frequently she was far away in Blackpool holiday resort .She just died recently and my friend was heartbroken, may she Rest In Peace. This song always reminds me of them, while we were on holiday in Isle Of Man

That's because it was a GE - made in the USA! Got it with first payday, June 1962. This song played many many times.. Ft Knox, KY. Had it on our camp out.. aka: 'bivouac'. I remember we had a roach coach 'Murphy's' come blasting their usual way, even though we're supposedly 'roughing it' - guess the brass got a kick back from the sales...
This song has a special meaning for me. I remember I thought like the lyrics say when my sweetheart and I had to part when her family took her away for a summer trip. I never saw her again. Yes....I am too
Possibly the most haunting melody of all time. And that harmonica...sweet. Beautiful.
Interesting are the lyrics; melody isn't that important.
시골 어르신들이 도시로 나가 사는 자녀들 에게 영상 편지를 전하시는 모습이 눈에 선하네요. 웬지 가슴이 뭉클 해 집니다.
A gorgeous song with a beautiful melody, love from Greece!!!

2022 and this song always give me chill ❣️
A hauntingly melancholy, beautiful ballad with ghost-like female backup vocals, and a lonely sounding harmonica accompaniment/solo.
Just heard this in SnowPiercer and I had to search it up mahn... nostalgic
A boy wrote these lyrics in a letter to me 40 years ago I've lost touch with him , but I still have the letter x
Gill Walker I'm guessing you guys never met in September

There's something about the melody in this song which is so bleak and haunting, it's beautiful.

Incredibly sensual, and heartfelt, a fave pop song for sure. Wish he had made some more with this beautiful production, and serious tone
Loved this forever! But it's the first time I've noticed the harmonica solo in the middle. BEAUTIFUL!
There was a lot of good things for us all when this song came out---wish we could return to the day.
