That's why I love reading and discovering new literature ( new to me) because two very different people can have the same visceral response to said literature! Have a great day 😁.

20 years ago I lost my husband to cancer when he was 48 and I was 46. I read many books during my grieving. “A Grief Observed” was the most impactful of them all. What a gift that book was to me!
@ Susan Damsen Thanks for the " word of knowledge in due season"! ...abt the book "A GRIEF OBSERVED". I just lost my good friend and ex-husband very suddenly but not unexpectedly, just days ago. I never expected to feel like this. Perhaps your suggestion is just the balm to remove the sting of tears that I feel. He was a true Christian friend...we had eachother's backs. He sheltered me when I was homeless, offered food out of hospitality and sat at my bedside when I needed an advocate for my pain...even crying bc he hurt too! I enjoy your channel sir, almost as much as I enjoyed reading Lewis' series to my boys those many years ago, with voices and emotion, evoking the usual call from my wife downstairs, "You're supposed to be putting them to bed, not getting them wound up!" Respect.
I have never ceased to be an avid fan of my friend, C. S. Lewis. No author has ever kept me so spell bound as he has been here. I do agree with him that the younger generation has no cause to disbelieve in God and His Creation if they find someone to tell it to them faithfully and as softly and convincingly as possible.
Folusho, amen ! Now may we be one of those who speak so softly and convincingly, that God would be pleased to use our testimony of the Good News. 🙏🏼🎶 So , are you ready to tell someone else about Jesus ?
I thought he was talking about himself, until he said that his birthday was 1909. I thought what, no way is he that old. That’s when I realized that this was a performance of unequaled quality.
I’ll have some lines from this read at my funeral. I just listened through twice , and cried each time, marveled each time, and learned each time. And then yearned for more.
Cannot begin to know how he had all of this memorized while also as something with such feeling and naturalness, believably as if it was his own story personally lived. What a gift this was.

@Karl Jansen Yes, Karl is correct. You were given the gift of the Holy Spirit at your original baptism, and your commitment is a sign of the outworking of - your response to - that priceless gift. I now: I was persuaded to have a second (immersion) baptism, but realised years later that God had been present in my life all along. @@annbrucepineda8093 "Christening" is simply a nickname for baptism, from the priest/minister making the sign of the Cross on the forehead of the person being baptised. Superb. Listened, watched as I gardened to the Screwtape letters, then this rolled over, how lovely. I laughed, smiled and cried.. And praise the generousity of a loving God.
There’s only one TINY little problem with what you wrote above, Sir.☝️ There has never been, nor will there ever be, even the SLIGHTEST shred of evidence for the existence of the Godhead, that is, a Supreme Person or Deity.🤓 It is high time for humanity to awaken from all INANE superstitions such as the belief in a Personal God which created the Universe, would you not agree, Slave? 😩
@@TheWorldTeacher you call yourself teacher, yet you don't know what is obvious. The evidence of God is all around you. You are without excuse. Even your own conscience is proof of God. And as extra proof of your not knowing everything, I am no sir. Read the Bible, read Romans, before you throw away thoughtlessly your only hope, read it and ask if it's true.
@@T-aka-T you are correct, but the Lord Jesus did not come to earth to teach a social gospel. He came as a propitiation, an atonement for your transgressions against a Holy God. Romans 6:23 " the wages of sin is death,...." " No liar nor thieves, But nothing unclean will ever enter the kingdom of heaven nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb's book of life" "...but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Love your brother, because that is righteous, but understand someone must pay for every time you did not. Someone must pay for every lie you have told, every rude word you have uttered, every time you have thought something wicked, every theft, no matter how small you are guilty of, had to be atoned for. You are guilty, make a deal with the judge before your appointed time, because then it will be too late. Accept that the Lord Jesus willingly paid for debt so that you don't have to, then trust Him, read His Words and follow Him to life everlasting.
I'm pleasantly surprised the U of California would tolerate sharing the wisdom of one of the great Christians. More is needed. UA-cam carries a ton of the late Archbishop Fulton Sheen. He had a long running favorite prime time TV show in the 1950's. His insights are badly needed today. Great humor and wisdom in 24 minute shots.
The mark of brilliance is not the intellectual that comes from the mouth that so many believe. The humility and grace that comes within now that is radiance. In many of his stories CS Lewis created characters based on this and the Lion Aslan is a brilliant example. I am grateful that his books filled my heart during my childhood. Mr Payne you did a wonderful characterization of an amazing man who faced many trials and tribulations but kept rising and his faith alone was the reason. A testament to the love you had for him.
C.S.Lewis has a special place in my heart, as my father read all the Narnia books to my brother and I as children. Remembering my father weeping after Shadowlands, as he recalled his own parents' experiences with cancer, brought tears of my own now that he too is gone, from cancer. This play was beautiful and I could have listened for hours more. Thanks so much for sharing it. It has rekindled a desire to read Lewis again.
For the numbers of views this video has had, I find the number of likes is sorely lacking. This was excellent, humorous, emotional, thought provoking, and David Pain has a sumptuously smooth voice.
Unfortunately the true Character of Ravi Zachariah made many jaded in believing men like Lewis also might have fallen short of the Glory of God . Lewis was a confessing Christian and Ravi used his name many times in his lectures…..There is a reason why Christ said “Many will come and say they know me ….)
Absolutely incredible performance! Stunning! I felt I was in the presence of C.S. Lewis. David Payne has extraordinary talent. He's a master of his craft. It has been an honour and a privilege to have viewed this video. Thank you for posting it and allowing us mere mortals to see this heavenly performance
With tears of appreciation I applaud all ...May I be such a witness through my pending death where I am to be born again of spirit..God bless you and keep you HIS children...He is faithful and true!!! Amen

This is absolutely the best oration I’ve ever heard about love, sacrifice, redemption, revelation, salvation, and translation. This was life-changing for me. Siri very much with my time no thank God for the blessing of being privileged to experience it.
This is truly amazing. As I have done my share of acting I can appreciate that one man sitting in front of an audience with only a chair and a table and speaking more or less non-stop is quite remarkable. To remember all those lines and I agree with the positive comments that others have written. A most unique method of portraying a person's life story. Well done indeed Mr Payne.

Thank you for the work you have done🙏 May God lead you ways on this path👑✝️🕊

Superb. Listened, watched as I gardened to the Screwtape letters, then this rolled over, how lovely. I laughed, smiled and cried.. And praise the generousity of a loving God.
There’s only one TINY little problem with what you wrote above, Sir.☝️
There has never been, nor will there ever be, even the SLIGHTEST shred of evidence for the existence of the Godhead, that is, a Supreme Person or Deity.🤓
It is high time for humanity to awaken from all INANE superstitions such as the belief in a Personal God which created the Universe, would you not agree, Slave?
Romans 6:23 " the wages of sin is death,...."
" No liar nor thieves, But nothing unclean will ever enter the kingdom of heaven nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb's book of life"
"...but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Love your brother, because that is righteous, but understand someone must pay for every time you did not.
Well said D Thomas- the beauty of the earth screams “A Creator”- no excuse for not believing in God-

Mr. Paynes did a phenomenal job. I was totally captivated. I don't see how C.S. Lewis could have portrayed himself better. Bravo!!

David Payne shows true brilliance in this performance. A master actor in this portrayal of the life of C.S. Lewis.
Eloquently & beautifully

Such a wonderful and beautiful story. Thank you.

There are no word just laughs and tears.
Wow, what talent, what life.
Thank you

As I have done my share of acting I can appreciate that one man sitting in front of an audience with only a chair and a table and speaking more or less non-stop is quite remarkable. To remember all those lines and I agree with the positive comments that others have written. A most unique method of portraying a person's life story. Well done indeed Mr Payne.
What a wonderful surprise. I always have UA-cam on auto play, and then I woke up to this gem.
totally awesome . Tears streamed down my face all though the last part.
Same here
Absolutely beautiful. In the words of the Westminster Shorter Catechism: What is the chief end of man? Man's chief end is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever.
