Working out in your home gym, and haven't invested in a leg press machine? Have a leg press machine, but just feel like trying something else? Try some of these substitution exercises out. They go from straightforward to a bit zany, but you should be able to find your Goldilocks somewhere in the mix.
All of the following exercises meet AT LEAST 1 of 4 requirements to be considered a proper leg press substitute (by my definition):
It doesn't directly put weight on the spine / no axial load.
Minimal stabilization required
Can be "overloaded"
Bilateral / both legs simultaneously (forgot to mention that one)
Exercises (check out the equipment used below in the description):
Dumbbell Squats held at the side (3:20)
Elevated (using cinder blocks in this case) kettlebell or dumbbell squats (4:09)
Elevated belt squats (5:09)

Barbell hack squat (7:23)

Henny Yoke Bar Hack Squats (not in the video): I found out later that you can also flip the SSB around (opposite direction from the last exercise), and perform a hack squat variation...very cool.

I really like how casual you are discussing this stuff. Too many gym pages are over produced whereas this video just had a real loving feel to it

3:30 Holding dumbbells squats
4:15 Sumo elevated squats with dumbbell/kettlebell
5:55 Sumo elevated squats with plate
7:55 Barbell hack squat
8:50 Hack squat machine dupe with barbell
10:10 Barbell squats with holding hands (captain squats if I heard correcly)

That landmine attachment is sick!
Usable creativity!!!
I've done the leg press using a barbell swinging off the squat rack! I honestly thought you would lie down under the viking press set up in the landmine and leg press upwards. Especially sine you had it set up on the bench! I do that, but I use a trap bar in the landmine because I don't have the viking attachment! The trap bar allows for an OK foot placement but the weights are right over my chest so use the safety bars on the squat rack, similar to the set up you had with the barbell on the bench.
I've never done that one. The idea of the barbell snapping or slipping over me freaks me out a little...I don't think the emergency room would believe my story when I come in with a barbell up my butt :)

I thought this was supposed to be about doing leg press exercise without the machine? The whole point is not having any equipment or accessories 🙄 Only have chairs and basic weights no blocks, racks etc...
Do the first example then?? Use two milk jugs/pints full of water if your weights are too light.
After a while, integrate water with rocks to push weight progress.
Soon, you'll probably switch from a jug of water/rocks to a pint full of rocks.
This is easily accessible, cheap, and works. No need for chairs or blocks.
Why don't you just buy a cheap and effective vertical leg press machine instead?
