- It was in 1941 that Eric Coates was inspired to compose his "Three Elizabeths" Suite depicting Queen Elizabeth the 1st, Queen Elizabeth later the Queen Mother, and the young Princess Elizabeth who became Queen Elizabeth the 2nd in 1952. His portrait of Princess Elizabeth took the form of a march entitled "Youth of Britain" and in this performance, taken from the complete Suite, it is played by the BBC Symphony Orchestra, conductor John Wilson. It was included in a concert entitled "Great Masters of Light Music" given in London's Royal Festival Hall on 25 June 2011.
I WISH JOHN AND HIS FABULOUS ORCHESTRA WERE STILL TOURING. NOT ALL OF US CAN GET TO LONDON.
John Wilson is, without doubt, the only contemporary conductor who "gets" Coates... the tempo, the drive, the lilt... of every note. This is the sound that defines Coates and The Best of British.
Once again, and AGAIN I ask when will we get a Knighthood for John Wilson????
@@johnmh1000 Maybe when the elite actually start to appreciate the very concept of Britishness?
By the center "Quick march"!
Mr Wilson conductor and smile
