Is it not bad for the microbes that you add them to very hot water?
Bokashi bran is made with 1:1:40 . 60ml of EM1 (not activated) with 60 ml of melasse and 2,5 liter of water +1 tablespoon of salt no refine for 10 lbs of wheat bran. T° = 100° F.
Just to clarify: This is not the same recipe as reffered to in the video.
In the video the ratio is 1:1:100 = 30ml EM, 30ml Sugar molasses, 3L water, 10lbs of wheat bran.

How do you create the “ effective microbes” is the question that remains after watching this. Unless you explain how that is done, most watchers including myself are still puzzled.
I keep hearing about how compost smells. Obviously, if it smells, you are not burying scraps. My compost bin never smells because the scraps are buried. I save up scraps till I have a couple pounds that I first freeze, then bury them into the center of the compost pile. It never smells or attracts rodents...and I live by a wooded area where wildlife is very prevalent.

i would think that it would be smart to wear a superfine particle mask as you add the ceramic particles and to continue to wear it until you have finished adding and mixing in the liquid. It can't be healthy to breath in ceramic particles!

+NotoriousNUGS it's just imo/lacto, wheat bran, and some brown sugar. mix it with water and ferment for a month. google that shit.. you can make your own lacto and imo.
Can be soft rock powder
Glacial rock dust or Azomite work just fine, I also add Biochar. You can take this a step further and learn to collect your own microbes from your yard and surrounding area. Check out Korean Natural Farming and JMS/ Jadam Long live the Natural Farmer

yes you would use activated EM not em-1. However, you would not use it directly on the soil(I mean you could but it would get expensive). You would instead use the activated EM as the EM solution which Podchef adds to the water along with the molasses, which he then adds to the bran and allows to ferment.

In my city, there is no wheat /rice brans. Is saw (wood) dust ok as a substitute?
Cost update - a 40# bag of pelletized rice bran cost me $27 in a rural area of North Georgia. Wheat bran was much cheaper at $15.75 for 50#.

(which is about 17Liters for those who are using metric scale. )

Thanks for sharing, but a few points are vague. What is the ceramic powder? what is the microbial inoculant? is that EM or just a compost tea? also, the way you are projecting your voice, from the back of your throat, instead of from your diaphragm, is whats making your throat hurt, i think.

Gypsum is a mineral that is good for fungi.....I am assuming it is good for these bacteria as well. Otherwise clay powder is a ceramic powder.

We make EM1 serum here with water rice, brown sugar or molasses and fresh milk.

I found a smaller recipe, not tried it tho, but its 500g wheat bran, 250ml water, 1tbs molasses, 1 tsp EM...am not sure so much water is necessary, maybe just add a little at a time until its similar consistency to the batch in the video
I tied my bran off tightly in a big trash bag after mixing it. After a week it is producing gas and the bag is inflating quite a bit. Is this normal? Should I get rid of the gas?
You can buy Em-1 which is used to make the activated EM from teraganix dot
com. It also says how to activate it on the site....as for Podchef's own recipe with fish emulsion, I don't know..but there are many recipes that will work..even plan activated EM will do the job.
I know it's a weird question but, why do all these videos have to put measurements in milliliters? Why can't we use the measurements we're used to?

EM species have a tolerance of over 140F. no issue here.

What if you don't have 17lbs of bran and want to make a much smaller amount? Where do you get the other ingredients from? It was such a small amount for that amount of bran do you still need it when mixing smaller amounts? The feed store in my area doesn't carry wheat bran ...

+Cheeto Fingers I researched that myself. When you try to compost weeds roots and seeds in regular composting it will grow back, but from what I found is that fermenting will make sure that doesnt happen. They even say to kill off poison ivy just put finished bokashi straight on it and cover with black plastic. For this reason you have to let bokashi "finish" in dirt before you plant. And spraying just the diluted EM liquid on all your regular compost and covering it will also help break it down and introduce good microbes etc. Hope that helps, this is such a learning curve and hard to keep up with new info!

Hi. I made some Bokashi a couple of weeks ago using ratios similar to yours. I read somewhere that it's ready when there's a layer of white mycelium on the surface. So far, it hasn't appeared. Is this feature essential in order for Bokashi to be "ready"? Also, you don't mention a drying step. Is it essential?

you ferment EM 1 with molasses, and add some kelp powder....EM is very forgiving, you can just experiment with it
How do I know that fermentation is terminated?
Usually the bokashi takes from four to eight weeks and usually the temperature goes down and humidity is low

why the steaming water, doesnt it kill off the bacteria?
Hot water helps thick molasses incorporate with water. I’d just let it cool a bit before adding activated EM-1. Get a cup of coffee, get the mail, sweep something, throw in a load of laundry, water a plant… just sit & enjoy the garden. Water will cool quickly enough. Or mix molasses water earlier in the day. So many options 😂

Compost piles get to high 110 and 120 i believe, same environment factors.. one thing is the uv from the sun, soil bacterias typically die in sun, thrive in dark soil..

Buy the wheat bran at your local feed and seed store. It is often feed to horses and other livestock.

This conclusion hardly supports your claim that EM or Bokashi is bullshit. All you can claim is that EM didn't work under those climate conditions in Central Europe. Might work elsewhere just fine or simply be too soon to tell without further science debunking it
