This reminds a soundtrack to an old western movie.

OMG! This is your first Marty Robbins song? Well, songs " El Paso" and "Big Iron" should be high on your list! What would Country & Western music be without cowboy songs. Some truly great Western songs out there for you to discover.

Marty Robbins was one of the greatest singer/songwriter/entertainers in music history. I daresay that in the next 100 years they'll still be playing his wonderful music which was topped off by one of the greatest voices that ever stepped up to a microphone.

Marty Robbins was in every home that loved country music especially ours. No one could tell a story better than him. All of his songs drew you in. He wrote 17 Number One Hits and 80 top billboard 40. I grew up in the 50's and am so blessed for that. I have my folks entire country collection all on 45 RPM and 78 Vinyl even 8 tracks. El Paso is one of my favorites. along with A White Sport Coat and Devil Woman. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall Of Fame but way before that he was inducted into The Country Music Song Writers Hall Of Fame which not a whole lot of country singers can brag about. He was one of the best song writers of his time. He was only 57 when he died from a heart attack. Another great one gone way too soon.

I disagree about the album, was listening to this album yesterday and most were... not great. Big Iron, El Paso, and Master's Call are the only ones that were good, Cool Water was alright.

Marty Robbins, was an American singer, songwriter, actor, multi-instrumentalist & NASCAR racing driver. Robbins was one of the most popular and successful country & western singers for nearly five decades 40's-80's. He had so many hits such as "Singing The Blues", "Devil Woman", "A White Sport Coat", "The Story of My Life", "El Paso", "Don't Worry", "Big Iron", "Knee Deep In The Blues", "Honkytonk Man", Don't Worry 'Bout Me", "My Woman, My Woman, My Wife" etc.

I grew up listing to this album (and still have it 😀). Marty Robbins is such a great storyteller and has an extensive catalog. Yes, everyone suggests "Big Iron" and "El Paso" (which I do as well), but also look for "My Woman, My Woman, My Wife", "Devil Woman" and "Lord, You Gave Me a Mountain"). He served in the Navy in WWII and was also a race car driver and was credited with likely saving the life of Richard Childress when he made a split second decision to turn his car into a concrete barrier while going 160 mph rather than plowing into cars that had wrecked and were strewn across the track in front of him (had he not turned he would have T-boned the driver side of Richard's car). He ended up with 37 stitches on his face, a broken tailbone, and several broken ribs.

When I was a kid Marty Robbins was hugely popular. My parents had this album and I learned every one of these songs from listening to it.
Another popular singer and songwriter at the time with similar cowboy/gunslinger music was Frankie Lane. His music was used in Western movie soundtracks.

I'm about to vie for the most eye roles in one of your comment sections. I grew up just after this sort of music was on its way out (In the late 60s). I have always had an Eclectic and quirky taste in Music, Loving a good mix of genres and styles and some even from this era. However, it was my enjoyment of the latter Fallout games, (3, Vegas, and 4) that reenergized my love of the real classics like this and many others. Marty Robbins "Big Iron" being prevalent in 3 of the Fallout titles and one I loved.
