I don't think the "heavy" spenders are mad at all. This isn't about them, they were getting those characters at those star levels anyhow. This has always been about the medium tier like Boomer (or myself for that matter). We get the passes, we get the lowest unlock offer for a new character, and while that certainly is likely in the neighborhood of $200/month, and while that certainly can be seen as a heavy spend, in the context of real whaling, it's barely a drop in the ocean. Now, of course I recognize and appreciate that from a F2P's perspective, that is heavy spender behaviour - and in practice as I mentioned, there's a pretty big jump up in cost between unlocking characters at the lowest offer, vs. getting them to 5, 6 or 7 star right off the hop. So in the spending universe and world view, it's low tier. Us low tier spenders matters as little as F2P in the grand scheme of things from a power curve perspective, even if we are spending more than a thousand dollars a year on this game. Sure, we get to build characters a bit faster than F2P, but not to the extreme the real spenders can. Now Scopely of course has always been about the squeeze, it's a business after all. However, we do seem to fail to recognize that the model Scopely has right now, is actually beneficial for us lower tier spenders, and F2P for that matter. Why? Because 2* characters can still hold great value and be useful. If you look at other similar type games, it's very often 7* or bust. The prime example is the one from Boomers past; SWGOH, and the now cancelled LOTR:HoME. So I understand the conflict, and I actually felt it too. On one hand I do not give one iota about this increase in cost, I've done more in other games - on the other hand, for the first time that I recall in this game's history, Scopely went past the $99 top offer cost for a single offer. That to me holds significance, and gave me pause because it crosses that mental barrier most of us have. $99 is fine, $101 is too expensive. On top of it, the $125 offer is actually a trap as Boomer mentioned in this video, which makes it even worse. The second aspect is the vault. A lot of the content creators discussions that I've watched has been around the cost, and how that is bad - however, the real problem for F2P and lower tiered spenders is the vault aspect. If this was treated like GCC, Nova or Black Cat, we would have shrugged our shoulders and not worried about it. But instead Scopely applied the stick instead of a carrot. That to me also holds significance. So to sum it up, black is the new black, and the squeeze is still on. Scopely is just moving down in the spender stack.
I agree. Everyone just needs to play at their own pace I spent close to $1000 last year for Apoc, haven’t spent since. And I still compete. Just need a good alliance that participates in the events because they’ve made it vital if you’re F2P.

So I might as well just play the game 100% f2p from now on and accept the fact that I can't be competitive in cosmic crucible anymore which WAS my favorite game mode. It might make me wanna stop playing the game all together.
I was/am too a strike/battle pass buyer. But started F2P since the last ones that are out now. I still have the urge to buy them, I'm so tempted... it actually shined a light that I am some kind of addicted. I still resist the urge, because I know I'm in a peccary economical situation and 50$ per month is a lot for me right now. (That's almost the full value of a video game, per month, wasted on a mobile games pixels.) I keep thinking, if Scopely decides to close the game tomorrow, I'd be so pissed. I guess the only true solution would be for me to fully quit it, but I enjoy the game enven as F2P now... just gotta resist.
@shadinz it made me realize the same thing. I have this urge to purchase the battle passes. I've been through addiction before with opiates. The best option is to quit the game completely, but I will try this f2p and see if I still enjoy playing the game.

I refuse to spend that kind of money on any of these type of games and it's not about having the money or not. I just find spending money on this game to be a huge waste. It will eventually go down and all that money you spend is just to go in some rich CEO's pocket.
As a content creator you absolutely should buy new character offers to have the ability to make videos with those characters (and yes, videos past the "here try this out on the test server" access Scopely gives you). If it's going to get you views and be a net increase in revenue for yourself, it's a no brainer. For us, when this is a hobby or entertainment, these offers are pretty insulting. The game goes from free to play/play to win to pay to play/pay MORE to win with release schemes like this. I don't think there would be even half the amount of drama there is if they just stuck to a low star but usable free to play unlock.
This capt britain release method came because oml stargating its release was a financial success for them. If again the revenue is as expected, future new epics, legendaries and mythics will continue and become more and more expensive.

Scopley are cashing out and milking what they can from players. As soon as people stop biting on these auctions and price hikes, the game dies. They don't give a fuck about game quality or anyone having fun, They dont give a fuck about the envoys or the players voice council. They just want to milk the spenders as much as possible.
Completely agree. And it's been ongoing for a few years now, I think it kicked into gear during covid. This is their end game, and they're going to squeeze as much money out of the players as they can. The prices have been increasing silly amounts for at least 2 years, and yes I know there's a crisis in the world and whatnot. But people don't have that sort of money to spend on a game, not the average player anyway. They are going to kill this game before long, even big spenders to stop once there's less and less players involved. Everyone will just move onto another game, and the spenders will follow.

Well said MobileGamer. I'm an f2p player since day 1 of the game. My account is as of now lagging behind by a year++, yet to start DD6. It's ok, for me, I enjoyed the game better without having to see these offers. I just unlock and play what I can as I go. I do hoard cores so when a really decent team came out, i will unlock them using cores or else I just unlock them as and when. I'm also in a casual alliance so there is no pressure from anywhere to rush and unlock characters/content. I play and enjoy the game at my own pace.

Really appreciate your honesty, MobileGamer, I remember the SWGOH Revan video you made and it really helped me. I was able to cut that game and 2 others out. The big difference for me on the Shuri event is how deceptive and deceitful this business practice is with the 2nd hidden offer and so many unknowns it's impossible for the consumer to make an informed purchase.

Im not sure what to think,, i started around same time by launch an came from swgoh, it feels like its just snowballed since they launched spotlight raids,, like its been thrown at level150 g25 characters (which is where its heading init) with no steady gradual rise in difficulty, like the difference between incursion2 raid difficulty 1 and 2,,, we can all handle 20-30% increases but not 120%, its just mean..we are frogs in pan of heating water,, ya cant just throw us in boiling water and not expect us to try jump out for self preservation,, what happened to letting us get in and gradually turn up the heat?, makes sense in my head anyway 😅

I complained to support and tried to get a refund because I would have bought two $50 offers had I known... Support responded and gave me those awakened shards... Then the next day the sent me another support mail REMOVING the shards. They gave me 5 gold orbs for my trouble. Also, great video Gamer. Enjoyed your background. I can relate... Ive had some gripes over the years with certain things youve said or done ya know sporadically here and there, but seeing you talk about these issues and voice how shit things are with this game atm is something i can really get behind. Not that youve never said things in the past before but something feels different about this but maybe thats just me. Ive been watching your channel for about 5 years now i believe and i already know based off of things youve said in the past that to make content and be successful plain and simply you need to buy character offers to showcase how things are working and because ppl obviously want to see it. Its times like these that i just want to see you get angry, not for the sake of just getting mad, but to see the passion that you have for this game and its community. There are times when things get bad and you make a video kinda just talking about it and in the back of my mind even though youve called something trash, at the end of the day someone will donate you money and you buy a certain character and then its just whatever. I will sometimes buy the Battle / Strike passes, it depends on the included characters and other goodies. I spend cores on the characters but do not generally buy offers. This whole thing has shifted me to a spot where I want to switch to 100% F2P I have not purchased either of these sets of passes because of this issue. If I didn't recently switch alliances to one where I can Use the new teams because there is actually raid progression unlike my last alliance I would have most likely thrown in the towel, like many from the previous alliance did. It should be noted that the old alliance and the feeder alliances are now all defunct. This is not a good thing for the state of the game.
I spend where I want to, when I want to. When they tell me I need to spend, pass. No thanks. I'll do without. Thank you for your input Gamer, it is much appreciated.
I agree, this is a different situation for you [and other content creators] than it is for us plebs. If we don't buy CB, we may miss out of a few events, milestones, etc but it won't be the end of the world. For you and other content creators, it could be huge content loss. Even if CB might not be needed for the next event, there's no guarantee CB won't be needed for the next-next event. I recently joined MSF this year and have been enjoying it as a new player. Now that I'm getting to that mid-game [needing these resources, building more efficiently, etc], it feels worse missing out on these materials from milestones or using saved materials on sub-par teams/characters now that I know what I'm trading off for. I like marvel [which is why I got into this], but if this is the direction the game is going, I'm thinking about going back to FF WOTV.

Ahnald spends mostly 300$ on each toon swgoh releases mainly because there you have to get them still to 7 star before you can relic them at least in swgoh you can just get them to 5 to do these events though the whales will get them 7 star I only pay to unlock raid toons event toons they can wait and I'll just farm them
didn't mind dropping some $ on a game I was enjoying, but the "reward" gap between light and heavy spenders is getting so big it's not worth the bother.

I refuse to spend that kind of money on any of these type of games and it's not about having the money or not. I just find spending money on this game to be a huge waste. It will eventually go down and all that money you spend is just to go in some rich CEO's pocket.

As a content creator you absolutely should buy new character offers to have the ability to make videos with those characters (and yes, videos past the "here try this out on the test server" access Scopely gives you). If it's going to get you views and be a net increase in revenue for yourself, it's a no brainer.
For us, when this is a hobby or entertainment, these offers are pretty insulting. The game goes from free to play/play to win to pay to play/pay MORE to win with release schemes like this. I don't think there would be even half the amount of drama there is if they just stuck to a low star but usable free to play unlock.
This capt britain release method came because oml stargating its release was a financial success for them. If again the revenue is as expected, future new epics, legendaries and mythics will continue and become more and more expensive.

Thank you for making this. I’m having a hard time not uninstalling the game with every choice they’re making. The scourge changes makes no sense. I don’t understand why they try and make us quit like this? It was going in a great direction at the beginning of the year. They can’t get out of their own way.
Scopley are cashing out and milking what they can from players. As soon as people stop biting on these auctions and price hikes, the game dies.
They don't give a fuck about game quality or anyone having fun, They dont give a fuck about the envoys or the players voice council. They just want to milk the spenders as much as possible.
Completely agree. And it's been ongoing for a few years now, I think it kicked into gear during covid. This is their end game, and they're going to squeeze as much money out of the players as they can. The prices have been increasing silly amounts for at least 2 years, and yes I know there's a crisis in the world and whatnot. But people don't have that sort of money to spend on a game, not the average player anyway. They are going to kill this game before long, even big spenders to stop once there's less and less players involved. Everyone will just move onto another game, and the spenders will follow.

I got so upset yesterday over this offer that I was so close to calling it quits but the thing is, I like this game. I enjoy my alliance I personally just won't spend my own money on it anymore. But I am glad I get to see you with BP and see her in action!

Well said MobileGamer. I'm an f2p player since day 1 of the game. My account is as of now lagging behind by a year++, yet to start DD6. It's ok, for me, I enjoyed the game better without having to see these offers. I just unlock and play what I can as I go. I do hoard cores so when a really decent team came out, i will unlock them using cores or else I just unlock them as and when. I'm also in a casual alliance so there is no pressure from anywhere to rush and unlock characters/content. I play and enjoy the game at my own pace.

Really appreciate your honesty, MobileGamer, I remember the SWGOH Revan video you made and it really helped me. I was able to cut that game and 2 others out. The big difference for me on the Shuri event is how deceptive and deceitful this business practice is with the 2nd hidden offer and so many unknowns it's impossible for the consumer to make an informed purchase.

Would you have bought the character shards if it wasn’t a business decision i suppose is a question? As a business decision its total understandable but as a normal person would you have bought the offers?
He made it pretty clear on stream he wouldn’t have but at the end of the day it’s a game and if buying a character makes you have a more enjoyable experience then it’s worth it

Did I not understand this right? I used power cores for one orb of Shuri and picked up 6 shards, then bought the $50 120 shard offer. Now I’m NOT seeing the next shuri offer with the awakened ability. Did I get screwed???

Im not sure what to think,, i started around same time by launch an came from swgoh, it feels like its just snowballed since they launched spotlight raids,, like its been thrown at level150 g25 characters (which is where its heading init) with no steady gradual rise in difficulty, like the difference between incursion2 raid difficulty 1 and 2,,, we can all handle 20-30% increases but not 120%, its just mean..we are frogs in pan of heating water,, ya cant just throw us in boiling water and not expect us to try jump out for self preservation,, what happened to letting us get in and gradually turn up the heat?, makes sense in my head anyway 😅

I mean, they did this for Daken. I bought the $100 Daken offer then the awakened popped for OML special. I complained to support and tried to get a refund because I would have bought two $50 offers had I known... Support responded and gave me those awakened shards... Then the next day the sent me another support mail REMOVING the shards. They gave me 5 gold orbs for my trouble.

I feel trapped as well. Like I gotta spend do keep on pace or fall behind which would make me quit. IDK how to compete in the top 20 alliance I have without spending. It's disgusting. Every time I finish a team, I tell myself I'm gonna just do battle passes and stop buying characters or offers. But it still happens
I very much appreciate you making this video. Talking about your upbringing not that its owed to anyone, puts a different perspective on how i view this channel. Ive had some gripes over the years with certain things youve said or done ya know sporadically here and there, but seeing you talk about these issues and voice how shit things are with this game atm is something i can really get behind. Not that youve never said things in the past before but something feels different about this but maybe thats just me. Ive been watching your channel for about 5 years now i believe and i already know based off of things youve said in the past that to make content and be successful plain and simply you need to buy character offers to showcase how things are working and because ppl obviously want to see it. Its times like these that i just want to see you get angry, not for the sake of just getting mad, but to see the passion that you have for this game and its community. There are times when things get bad and you make a video kinda just talking about it and in the back of my mind even though youve called something trash, at the end of the day someone will donate you money and you buy a certain character and then its just whatever. Not that everything needs outrage but in this case i think some of the content creators need to show some anger towards this and keep up the discussion’s about whats happening in this game right now. Idk maybe a pissed off rant video isnt the way to go because maybe it doesnt accomplish anything. Maybe not a single person from Scopely sees it and its just wasted energy idk. Either way, i like what ive been hearing the last few videos and i hope you and anyone else that might read this understand i say everything here with respect and no ill intent whatsoever.

You know what, I read a post in FB a few hours ago. The editor had question about unable to unlock CB after he bought the Shuri offer and got the shield...I think $copely literally need such players that they just throw their money out without using their brains.

All I can say is you are doing a service for those of us in the community that love the game there is no other game to play mobile- wise I tried them all. In that I do feel trapped. I have tried every five V five turn based rpg, this is the only one that I enjoy playing.

I will sometimes buy the Battle / Strike passes, it depends on the included characters and other goodies. I spend cores on the characters but do not generally buy offers. This whole thing has shifted me to a spot where I want to switch to 100% F2P I have not purchased either of these sets of passes because of this issue. If I didn't recently switch alliances to one where I can Use the new teams because there is actually raid progression unlike my last alliance I would have most likely thrown in the towel, like many from the previous alliance did. It should be noted that the old alliance and the feeder alliances are now all defunct. This is not a good thing for the state of the game.
I spend where I want to, when I want to. When they tell me I need to spend, pass. No thanks. I'll do without. Thank you for your input Gamer, it is much appreciated.

I agree, this is a different situation for you [and other content creators] than it is for us plebs. If we don't buy CB, we may miss out of a few events, milestones, etc but it won't be the end of the world. For you and other content creators, it could be huge content loss. Even if CB might not be needed for the next event, there's no guarantee CB won't be needed for the next-next event. I recently joined MSF this year and have been enjoying it as a new player. Now that I'm getting to that mid-game [needing these resources, building more efficiently, etc], it feels worse missing out on these materials from milestones or using saved materials on sub-par teams/characters now that I know what I'm trading off for. I like marvel [which is why I got into this], but if this is the direction the game is going, I'm thinking about going back to FF WOTV.

Ahnald spends mostly 300$ on each toon swgoh releases mainly because there you have to get them still to 7 star before you can relic them at least in swgoh you can just get them to 5 to do these events though the whales will get them 7 star I only pay to unlock raid toons event toons they can wait and I'll just farm them
didn't mind dropping some $ on a game I was enjoying, but the "reward" gap between light and heavy spenders is getting so big it's not worth the bother.

You know what I mean. Anyway, thank you for being the voice of reason. If it were a business decision for me and I was in your same position, I would purchase it and make the video. I know it feels dirty and you might feel it goes against your principles but this is not the case in your position. In my position, my wife and i are very comfortable financially but I choose not to spend thousands a year on this game. The money is not worth the experience. However, like I said, this is not a source of income for me.
