Utterly complicated, sluggish and confusing to use at any real emergency and under stress. Purposefully over-engineered to account for usage of entire grant/project fundings!
Boy I bet that would give a couple passengers a heart attack , but that’s a better alternative to going down with the ship , the problem is all the chaos when a boat is sinking , can they have the staff stay focused and get them all launched , when a boat may go down in a hour or less ! But still an awesome design , I think the smaller ones , should be used with a catapult design and just launch a whole bunch of them in the water with a weighted anchor
Great to see it... I am Ship scale model Builder.. I do Fiber glass Hollow Rescue boat ... mainly to avoid heavy weight of resin as generally builder do solid Resin rescue boats.
I read many comments about the time needed to launch those lifeboats, but no one considers the good idea behind as well as this is a test filmed at least 7 years ago...

as high up as that looks, when you're actually in the life boat it doesn't feel like that far of a drop
Hopefully they would be a LOT faster in a real emergency !!!
and if the ship is listing 20 degrees, what does it do, go off the rails sideways?
I think I broke my neck watching this
Where is the inside video of the lifeboat full of real people enduring this test drop? What? no volunteers?
That would make for one hell of an amusement park ride. 😲😳🤪
So WHO gets the job of staying outside to pump the release while the rest of the crew gets away safe?

Well, at least they preserve the remains for the families to bury. After you reassemble the limbs, of course.
I have tried a drop like this with same type of lifeboat, a bit lower, but much the same. I had some great fun doing it ;)

Not how long, but how well you have lived is the main thing. - Seneca
They could have sank and raised the Titanic in the time it took to launch one of these.
