watching you start to turn that piece of yew scared me, but then watching your wonderful skill show though made the vase very great. thank you for tuning wonderful pieces
A gorgeous vase Robbie, Yew is still my favourite wood, you just never know what beauty you may uncover while turning it, and this is a fine example of that beauty. The shape of the vase, the inclusions, and figure make this a truly stunning piece mate. Take care Mike
Hello Robbie, I have spent fifty years in the joinery trade, set out in wood turning about four months ago, and i find it great. Thanks for your work and videos, it' really inspiring. carry on the good work. Counting on you.
Wow Robbie, there is no way I would ever think of chucking a piece of log that shape...You make it look so easy! You must have your lathe set in concrete! Good looking vase you made, nice work! Roy
Another beautiful piece of work. You never know what the piece of wood will take you. You have a wonderful vision for Woodturning and you also are a wonderful craftsman. Can’t wait to see what you create next.
Alan Simpson I forgot to mention that I've been following Albert Furtado for several months and he really is a remarkable and enthusiastic turner especially when he tackles seemingly impossible pieces of wood and turns them into works of art.
Christopher Fisher Hi Chris good to hear from you plenty of talking in this one i hope it helped you imagine what i was turning i cut out all the beeps jess man i was fecking from a height turning this one lol All the best big man Robbie
Hi Robbie !! Yeah, I really enjoyed it mate and understood what was happening.I was glad it all came good after a weeks serious work put into it. Cheers. Mate.
Glad to see you back on the lathe Robbie. I know this vase changed from your initial idea but the beauty in the end shows true craftsmanship and all looks intentional with great results.WOW Robbie I was writing this at the very end and turned back to see the final piece in you hands to hear the shout out. WOW completely unexpected and Thank you so much Great finish my friend. Albert
In the end your vase shines through, I just know that feeling of getting back to the lathe after a few days you can't work in, and finding your turning with cracks, or distorted.. that just sucks, but you pulled it off, I love the colors of your Yew, I'll be getting a piece from Ireland in a few days, and I've never turned the stuff, I hope my piece will be as colorful as yours Robbie, thanks again for an engrossing video!
Beautiful piece. I hope to try turning a vase like that some day. For a hollowing tool I have a Crown 5/8 Revolution tool. Still getting use to it. I also use a Sorby multi tool tool, but the 12in. Handle is just to short for anything over 4-5in. Deep.
The Little Garden Shed Workshop Thanks Harry i was in and out of the Cave turning this one for days jess i thought it would start growing again it took that long lol
That came out very well and taking the knots out made it look even better. I have a deep Yew vase waiting to be hollowed out but I can't get down to the bottom so I'm going to have to practice with a couple of huge scrapers my mate made for me and give it another go. Best Wishes, Brendan.
baconsoda Hi Brendan this was one of the crough you gave me i have another one ill might give it a try Hopefully i won't forget what i am doing and not cock up lol All the best Robbie
Great looking vase Robbie. That finish looks nice. Be interesting to see over time if the UV protection works. I've been looking forward to this video since you posted the picture of the piece on the lathe. Despite taking off the branches the vase looks great. Al has some fantastic videos and as you say is really passionate about turning. I always have a serious amount of tool envy watching your videos, the hollowing tools look great.
Martin Boyle Thanks Martin i am a tool junkie well i don't buy anything just tools ill have to wait and see how this finish works out i'll be letting everyone know as time passess
Robbiethewoodturner my next investment is going to be a bandsaw. Been keeping my eye out on the second hand market but hopefully going to pick up a 12 or 14 inch bandsaw in the next few weeks.
really nice robbie! I was curious to see what you were going to get out of that piece of wood and it came out far better than I would of thought. Nice bit of turning there Robbie! All the best, Peter
Beautiful video, Robbie. The vase looks very nice. The yew has a beautiful wood color. Thanks for the "recipe" for the surface treatment (lacquer, tung oil, white spirit). The turning tool, which have worked in the end. Have you sharpened it, or was it when buying already so?
Robbie: Love the vase. I especially enjoyed the close ups of your tool work. Very educational for me, a fairly new turner. Oh yes, can you amp up your voice in the videos? When you speak I am sure you have something of value to say. The music is great while you are turning, but I want to hear your comments. Thanks; Mark
Robbie, I have not seen anything new in a long time. I pray all is well. Do you plan on doing any new videos? You are certainly missed. God Bless, Regards, Bob
Robbie, nicely done. Got to your site through Stephen Ogle. Your vases are an inspiration. What sort of tool rest were you using at the end to go deep?
People, don't ruin good videos with music. If you are making a music video, we'll and good. But don't use music as background sounds to cover up turning sounds.
watching you start to turn that piece of yew scared me, but then watching your wonderful skill show though made the vase very great. thank you for tuning wonderful pieces

Is Robbie still doing the wood turning
Ps: I prefer satin finishes too except for bird house ornaments
Robbie, nicely done. Got to your site through Stephen Ogle. Your vases are an inspiration. What sort of tool rest were you using at the end to go deep?
God
+Robbiethewoodturner how come you stopped posting? All ok?
Anyone know what happened to Robbie? He has not posted a video in quite some time.
You do nice work, but your music is too loud and I can't hear what you are saying.
People, don't ruin good videos with music. If you are making a music video, we'll and good. But don't use music as background sounds to cover up turning sounds.
Hey Robbie, are you still alive or did your ancestors drinking catch up with you?
