The following season, Cincinnati also won twice against Houston by big scores: 40-20 and 41-14, but it never felt like Wyche ran up the score on Jack Pardee. Must have been a Glanville thing
@@MarvinClay-ck7zj Yes. It’s good that you remember it was Taylor. Every now & then I find myself reminding ppl that the TD wasn’t Rice. That Super Bowl was quintessential Bill Wall with Montana. When a great coach has a QB whom he trusts to execute the plays then he really game plan all three phases of the game. Walsh, Parcels & Belichick were teachers & coaches who had their teams prepared for everything.
@r.williamcomm7693 I apologize for reminding you of that. Been a 49er fan since I was 10 on 1988. I now know how it feels to lose super bowls since the 49ers have lost their last three in dramatic fashion.
@@MarvinClay-ck7zj no apology necessary. I’m a Steelers fan but on that January night in 1988 I was in college & cheering for Pittsburgh area guy Joe Montana! 😀
Oh ok cool. In my personal opinion if there was one game to be played and the fate of the universe was at stake the guy I want as my quarterback is and always will be Joseph Clifford Montana Jr.
The Browns won the division that year with a win over Minnesota that day and the Oilers the following week. They haven’t won a division title since then. Talk about a tight Division: Cleveland 9-6-1 Houston 9-7-0 Pittsburgh 9-7-0 Cincinnati 8-8-0
At least it wasn't Glanville's birthday--I can just see Sam leading the Riverfront Stadium crowd in a singalong of "Happy Birthday", much like what the Dallas Cowboys did to Joe Theismann in 1985 when they defeated him and the Redskins at Texas Stadium. And, yes, Sam would have done this, IMO...

Tradition is that many announcers do leave the windows open when possible. I've even heard announcers lament being in a booth with windows that can't open.
Yes, the windows are always left open so the sounds of the game aren't muted. Joe Buck recently admitted to this. There's no point heating the booth if the windows are left open.
Steelers fan here, and I love what Sam Wyche did. People respected the Oilers when Bum Phillips coached them, everyone HATED the Oilers when glanville the clown did because he intentionally had his team play dirty.
@stevencooke1027 Reich didn't stop shelling out pain when his playing days ended. He then went to indy and kicked the colts in the nads every chance his "4th and 23 we'll go for it in the shadow of our own goalpost" would allow.
When is part 2 coming out? I love this video rubbing it in to my wife and in laws. I live in Htown now. Have no hatred for the Texans but absolutely despised the Oilers almost as bad as shittsburgh.
@Brian Siler I appreciate that but the game is 3 hours and 40 min long with commercials. I like these highlight clips better to where it's not as long.
Glanville coached 2 more games with the Oilers including a playoff loss to the Steelers (note: the Bungles didn't make the playoffs). Glanville went on the coach the Atlanta Falcons from '90-'93.
@@thegame8377 Sam Wyche was a much better coach than Glanville. Oilers blew how many playoff games? Had Warren Moon never even made it to the AFC Championship game
Saddens me I will never see the "Houston Oilers" again in my lifetime, they are gone forever.
Remember this and enjoyed seeing Glanville and the Oilers take it on chin! It was justice -- Cincinnati style.
He was easy to dislike. Though Wyche was a bit of an ass too.
I don't think Cincy made playoffs that year
@@thomasmoncrief883They went 8-8 and finished last in the AFC Central.
I remember this......this was fucking hilarious......and at the end of the game Sam Wyche was waving bye bye to Glanville while laughing !!!!
He knew jerry would get fired at the end of the season

Warren Moon doesn't play with gloves in cold weather...FUMBLE
It's a well known fact if you aren't a similar color to that of snow you need to wear gloves.
QBs never really wore gloves back then
That's what happens when you play in a dome
As a lifelong Oilers fan, I have one question. It's been 9 months. When is Part II coming???
The Bengals did not make the playoffs . ?
When the Bengals finally stop scoring.
I loved this game!
Boomer Esiason was an excellent QB. He was 34 seconds away from being Super Bowl MVP vs the 1988 49ers.
Montana to Taylor ended that fantasy. Go 49ers!

For me the late 80s were the golden age of the NFL.
Cincinnati went for the jugular
I remember this game. 61-7
Almost like the final game of 1972 Bengals ran it up on the Oilers 61-17
Please upload the full content especially the post game interview where wyche called Glanville an embarrassment as a coach in the nfl..
Media: Any regrets about your team's performance, Sam?
Wyche: Yeah, we missed an extra point.

Shit the Steelers were the dirtiest team ever .
Me too. Cheered for the Steelers too, but Bum was a personality, but in a likable way that Glanville definitely was not.
You got what you deserved from Glanville
8:51 just imagine what could of been for the UK wildcats program if they land Shanahan from Denver.
This video only shows the first half … what is the point of that?
Sam Wyche was a fuckin savage.
First this, then Frank Reich. Tennessee here we come!
The Oilers/Titans experienced a lot of post-season pain. Though this, of course, was not a post-season event.
