- I've Lost HOURS of Sleep to the Polyend Synth!
When Polyend first reached contacted me about trying out their new Synth, I didn't expect to be making this video at all. But in the past two weeks, I've had many late nights just sitting at the Synth, simply playing with it. Normally, when I sit down with a piece of gear, I have some sort of end goal. Make a song, design a sound, lay down a framework, etc. But with the Polyend Synth, I simply get to relax, experiment, and have fun. There's no pressure to make anything, just a playground of sounds to play with each other, and it's been a blast! Enjoy the video :)

Love it! It's honestly such a good reminder of the fact that instruments are made to be played, and I think that exact verbiage is highly apt here.
Also that there’s no obligation to write/record tracks at all - I love playing guitar but wasn’t connecting with all my synths for that reason until I focused less on the sound design/sequencing and just playing. We tend to take a hobby like music too seriously
Yeah I LOVE how much it plays just like an instrument!
I love instruments you can get lost in and then hours go by and you don't even realize it. This seems to check that box. A firmware update or two, and I think this may be one of those must-have instruments in people's setups.
Absolutely, I'm really enjoying it!
The only problem out here is that there's so many of these sequencers on the market and it's impossible to choose one
This is definitely about the synths, the sequencer is very bare bones. I would get this to use as just a sequencer.
I just ordered one. I’m a hobbyist, so the polyend synth clicks all the boxes for me.
Oh yeah this is gonna be a GREAT device for hobbyists!
I totally see the fun factor! Despite that I think that if I were looking for a multi layer synth in mid price range, I would pick the Korg Multipoly over this one even though it is more expensive, because it sounds significantly better to my ears.
But is the Multi truely mutlitimbral, can you assign each layer to a midi channel??
@@waddy707 I am pretty sure you can do that. I haven't checked the manual but from my Korg Wavestate (which is very similar to the Multi Poly in terms of device software) I know that you can assign channels to the parts, and you can also define keyboard splits, so you can turn a midi keyboard into zones, and these zones can also overlap if you want to have voices play at the same time. You don't get as much inter-part-coordination (so no restricting the notes of part2 to the chords you play on part 1), so that is a downside of Multi/Poly over the Polyend Synth. If you do know the key you're playing in then you can however restrict the notes to a key.
You can absolutely assign the 3 different synths to 3 different MIDI channels
If a device provides fun, nothing else matters. I too am having fun with the Synth.
Absolutely! Glad you're enjoying it as well
I think it seems great for your live rig!:) so continent to have three synths so close to each other. Can’t you pan the audio in the stereo to separate at least two channels?
Maybe I'll give that a try!
I made the mistake of buying a synth when I started, in that I didn't know what I'm doing so I'm really gun shy at buying a device now. I find that it's easier to learn software, and usually less expensive. I'm intrigued by this model of course, but not enough to spend money on it. I also really intrigued by the modular designs vs an all in one. but that way lies being broke.
Which synth did you get started with? And yeah, modular is a money pit for sure hahaha
@@FreeBeat I got the Korg Monologue XD, while a great synth was not for me. keys were too small. I now use a NI S61 + Software synths mostly, but have been dabbling with the Moog semi-modulars and just got the stack of 3 to learn on in 2025.
Great rundown and the joy really comes thru. Love the macros for that 🤌
Absolutely, thanks so much!
I like most of your jams here. I'm really thinking this would be the perfect compliment to the Novation Tracks. Are all three synths controlled by one midi channel?
The synths are controlled each by their own MIDI tracks, but I believe you can set all of them to be controlled by the same track if you'd like :)
How do the synth engines sound? Can you get some less digital sounds out of it?
I think it sounds pretty good, but I'm also not a huge sound expert haha.
How does this compare to the Minifreak?
I've only ever used the Minifreak VST, so I don't feel like I can provide an accurate comparison.
