- After remaining lost for over a decade, I decided to some light on the forgotten Layton fangame, 'Professor Layton and the Lost City', uncovering its perplexing past and enigmatic author...
Check out the game here. Not sure if all the links still work as I made it in Powerpoint in 2012, and now it's being hosted on Google Slides.

the insanity of the plot was so incredibly charming in a way that only an inexperienced kid making a passion project for fun could have produced. although i don’t and haven’t interacted much directly with the layton community since getting into the series around 2009/2010 it reminds me of simpler times as a silly kid on the internet making terrible art and fanfiction of my favorite video games with other likeminded kids online. 10/10 story and i genuinely mean it.
Honestly, if it was presented better, is it really that more insane then your average layton game?
My only friend IRL who understood my love for Layton was an employee at my town's video game shop, thank you Bernadette for putting aside a Luke plushie toy for me when they arrived.
Yooo shout out to your friend!
I was not prepared for that plot twist it genuinely surprised me lmao. Honestly it's impressive you did all of that in POWERPOINT
Me too haha, my favorite part was when the “black knight” just rotating a dinosaur leg
Thank you for having my voice in this, Hershel!
Was not expecting the meme edits around it, but it's bloody brilliant hahaha!
One of my favourite parts of the video. Thanks for being a part of it!
The author's reveal gave me the same feeling I got when Nick Robinson revealed he was the one who bought the McDonald's training DS game
This was so wholesome. It got me reminiscing on my own teenage cringe (like completing a school assignment using The Sims 2!) and it honestly made me smile. I know it's fun to look back on the stuff you did as a kid and laugh at it, but honestly, I think the game you made has a lot of heart. It really showcases just how much passion you had for the series and a lot of creativity, while also making me audibly laugh a few times because, "Oh God, that's something I would have done".
As someone who gets a little melancholy during the holidays, for what it's worth, this video really made me smile. I'd love to see you cover the other games that you did back then.
Im always so happy to see the Layton fandom being so passionate in those dry times in terms of new content. Keep up the good work, I adore it
11:13 we need a Layton game we’re Layton has an epic sword fight on dinosaur bones in a museum
Fantastic stuff!
Loved the big reveal.
It was a pleasure to do the drawing!
Cheers dude. Thanks for your help!
@@DearestHershel An interesting suggestion: Have you ever heard about a game called May's Mysteries the Secret of Dragonsville? No? Weird considering that this game was heavily inspired by Layton... And it still being sold in shops! It's available for the Switch! And I am actually surprised by this fact cause when I first saw the original version for this game on NDS I thought I might have found a forgotten treasure that nobody spoke off...but Nope! Anyway if you REALLY want to know just how HEAVILY the game was inspired by Layton better play NDS version but any other version will suffice too, but checking out NDS version is still a must in my opinion! The game has everything Layton is known for: puzzles, drawn visuals, wacky and weird mystery, weird characters. Simply put, check this game out. This will def.be an experience... (Just make sure to skip rhythm games! You'll know what I mean!)
I love how absolutely insane this is! It seems like you had an amazing time creating this and that makes me really glad lol Thank you for including our fan works as well!
"long after the series has ended" NOT ANYMORE LFGGGG
This genuinely made me emotional. Excellent presentation and incredible scripting throughout this video. I tip my hat to you sir.
This is some inspiring work right here, which raise the entire fandom up due to high quality edits, a fantastic script, and very heart warming yet informative content.
I wish you only the best in the future, as this shows just how much you've been able to improve.
This is so wholesome and sweet and that editing 10/10
Our lives are connected! 😱 I created Layton-likes in PowerPoint in my childhood, too - but with completely new characters. For the most elaborated project, another inspiration were the Kyle Hyde games and it has a secret organisation like A Series Of Unfortunate Events. And yes, I also have names for the 5 sequels to this game. :D To this day, my concept would not let me go, even if it needs a bit of a rework. I actually concepted an Escape Room 3 years ago, which would be a prequel to this game. Maybe some day... 😥
This is AWESOME. Thank you for keeping the series alive with your passion and creativity.
Is this the beggining of an epic saga
Yup, such an adventure in a niche community is one of the nicest experiences the internet could provide, especially in the Layton fandom, which is always so nice and upbringing. I mean, it is pretty normal from such a community, after all, that is the way of the gentleman. We're just too eager to see what you and the whole Layton fandom can bring next, especially those fanmade games/engines/stories. BTW, do you happen to still have the link you used for the IGS cosplay championship that you used in the intro? I would be interested to see the show in integrality but can't seem to find it.
The cosplay clip at the start of the video was sent to me by apreslulu herself for this video. I'm not aware of a full video elsewhere, sorry.
Hi, I’m apreslulu! That clip was from MCM London October’s cosplay masquerade, I was sent the video by a photographer and I’m not sure the full competition video has been uploaded somewhere yet
@@DearestHershel ok, thank you very much and I'm eager to see your next projects !
@@Apreslulu Hi, thank you for spreading this information. The talent and dedication behind such passionate cosplays as those that can be seen in the IGS masquerades (66,67,68,69, and thus hopefully soon 70) always amaze me (yours at the 69th included, of course).
as a european i still have no idea wtf london life was
Well this is Hype
Agreed
that is the most epic reveal i have seen!
This is so awesome, I spent the entire time smiling while watching this.
Oh my, I also tried to make countless Layton-style games with PowerPoint! That was, like, my main hobby from 2009 to 2013.
I never finished a single one, mainly because I was frustrated that I didn't have good background art. I tried to make some using pictures of my house and the streets around but then I became frustrated because I wasn't very good at inventing puzzles.
Nevertheless I spent countless hours making these useless things mainly because I loved creating the menus and the GUIs which is something I'm still passionate about to this day.
2:34 gasp, what a shirt eating grin you have.
I think you're wrong about fact 4, it became self fulfilling
Fact 4 at the time of writing was 100% not true.
Brilliant, so when’s the HD remaster?
So do you think your going to make a new fan game in the future ?
I doubt it. Wouldn't really know where to start, but 'Raven's Curse' and 'Thespian's Curse' are both things to look forward to!
I MISSED THE PREMIER NOOOO-
How can I become your friend 😅😂 reminding me too much of myself when I got into PL
This is the type of shit I love to see
OH WOW
11:58
Yes
@@MisakiP-1 hello fellow bocchi enjoyer

Wait!? Layton fangames exist?
Okay that story was tons of fun! Honestly it makes me think about all the old projects I’ve abandoned when I was younger. Thanks for sharing, DH! Maybe one day you or someone else can create a brand new PL fangame for everyone to enjoy! Here’s to hoping! ^7^
11:51 looks really wrong out of concept lmao
This was beautiful. Wasn't expecting to see Andy Newman or myself battling Dodie. MIss you 🤍
I was originally looking for the clip of you in that wrestling game but this was much better. Will talk soon!
I suppose being broke all the time is indeed lol cringe. I hope this phase passes.
I had no idea that there was a whole Little London community! That's so cool! I made the OC that I have in the mini game and made an entire story around him. =)
thats some amazing fanwork right there
Professor Jackal is probably from Grimsby.
2:29 what a mic drop moment
Please tell me these are being released
The first one is in the description but the others... we'll see...
amazing
Tomislav.
Can you please disable the premiere function? Nothing is worse then getting a video in your subscription box that you need to wait on especially when it’s from one of the best Layton UA-camrs❤️❤️
Only really do this for big videos so that everyone can experience it at the same time and can discuss it together. Thanks for the support though - hope you're gonna like this one!
Loved the video!! You’re long form Layton vids are awesome!! It’s just that premier stuff always gets me excited and then bumped out
It always warms my heart to see people being very passionate about this amazing franchise. We can feel the devotion and effort people put in these projects! Discovering the fangame you've made was very enjoyable and certainly made me smile!
Nice video! Your editing and jokes are always charming!🎩💕
I'm always excited to see fanworks from Professor Layton fans.
