Me not understand.
I sure hope that Keeps knows that they hired a Charles Manson lookalike for that ad read.
Bourbon Moth Jason is easily my favorite UA-cam personality!
Your channel is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Love the self deprecating humor but respect the talent you possess. I'm learning a lot. Thanks.
I think the most important thing from this build is the template and as a reminder of this build it deserves a special place on the big Bourbon display board, tucked mostly out of sight, but still just visible for the discerning viewers.
That scarf joint cutting technique was sweet. They say we learn something new every day. I did. I'm glad I watched this video first thing in the morning. Thanks
The Goat Island Skiff is similar to this boat. I built one. It's very light weight - 15ft and 75kg/165lb. And it has a total of 2 permanent screws in it, the rest is held together by epoxy! One point about scarf joins, you don't really need a jig. Just lay the boards like a set of stairs on top of each other, mark you line, and plane (power plane initially speeds up the process) down to a smooth straight slope. Flip every second board over to glue them together.
We built a rowing boat in our woodworking class when I was at school (1970's). Trouble was the teacher hadn't planned it properly and built it too big to get it out of the workshop. As far as I know it's still there.
😅
You are seriously doing a good job with this boat! Keep it up.
17:07 the newest “wood pecker” tool
Lmao, was thinking the same thing
My favorite UA-camr. Informative and fun to watch. Thanks Jason.
hes rad
I used to do a lot of shipwright work in addition to my normal marine maintenance business. One of the last jobs I did before retiring was to build a 25 foot long A frame for the front of a gold Coast Yacht that had been damaged. It was built of Clear Douglas Fir which came in 12 foot lengths of 2 x 12. The A frame was 5 layers thick and thus a lot of staggered standard 12 to 1 scarf joints (18 inch long). I did this with a jig similar to yours and using a 10" skill saw cutting from both sides and hand sawing the middle out and a little planing. What fun. The a frame had glass at all the joints and 6 layers of tri ply glass top and bottom of the apex. It had to hold 60K pounds of tension. All went well and the Coast Guard inspections were 100%. Not something I wish to repeat.
Fantastic build video man! Keep it up!!!
I’ve been so pumped for part 2. Can’t wait for 3. What a great build series! Thanks for sharing the work with us.
Any link where they sell the plans for this boat?
Awesome, thanks for posting. You can save a ton of money instead of using cabosil, you can use saw dust (wood flour). You can buy a 1/30th Sifting Pan that miners use from amazon and run the sawdust through it and boom savings.
The boat build has become my most anticipated update videos of all the channels I subscribe to. Keep on rocking.
i'm jealous from your workshop, brilliant video and sense of humour.
Really please for you mate. Been subscriber since you only had about 20k subscribers. Now watching all your work pay off with more than 310k subs. You really have made me find my passion again for wood working. So thank you 😊
Seeing part two was uploaded today was the best news I’ve had in a while and I say that with no shame!
your intros are the best!!!!
I am really glad I found you. I enjoy watching your videos.
what are the measurements of your scarfing jig?
Hi Jason, the boat build series is really entertaining, I loved how you covered up screws with more screws, your totally insane. Don't forget at this point in the build anything extra that you add is extra weight to your boat. Eagerly waiting to see the final outcome. Thanks for sharing
Nice "Drift Boat" progress. A drift Boat is a boat that has a lot of rocker ( like a rocking chair shape) that with little effort rowing you can hold your boat in a fast moving stream so people can fish while you maintain position. I have had aluminium and wood boats but wood boats aren't as noisy as metal boats and noise can spook the fish. Great work and fixing problems. I was waiting for your second installment. Keep up the excellent work and get this puppy finished!
Awesome videos. This comes from a 3rd time boat builder, nothing as complex or beautiful as this wonderful dory you are building. It ain't like normal woodworking, that's for sure.
*Hello there, I have requested your DVDs, for simpler and quicker approach to manufacture a shed **Allmy.Tips** I trust the substance are as you guaranteed it will be. Just I'm worried with the substance, it won't be anything but difficult to settle on a decision from the various plans.*
Another great video, Jason. Love your humor and attention to detail. I wish I was your neighbor, so I could help. I mean, if we were not still fighting over the last barbeque we attended in 2019 due to COVID. I really didn't mean to drop you hammer on your car.
Thanks again, Felix
this is awesome! We live on our sailboat, preparing to sail around the world and do all of the work ourselves. you are so inspiring!
You are inspiring!! That’s awesome
Hands down the best and MOST entertaining woodworking videos ever! Awesome job brother
For all the comedy, this is a craftsman at work...Damn this this is gonna be huuuuuge!
Your humor is unmatched.
Love your channel. 👍❤️
Your intros (and woodworking skills) never cease to amaze me.
Jason, love everything about your videos! This boat build reminds of your lofty tank build. You take on intimidating projects and truly crush them all. I’ve been following you for some time now on my personal account but am now switching over to my channel account. So you get 2 subs for the price of one. Because of you and others like you I have started woodworking myself. It’s my new passion. Right now I’m building a king size bed for me and the mrs. I used your bed build as a guide for the structure but put my own spin on it. Thanks so much for the great production value you bring to the woodworking niche. The bar you set challenges me to bring a quality level most you tubers will never achieve.
Thank you. Can not wait to see the next steps. My buddy and I have been plotting the build of the bigger brother of the kit you are building now.
Wondering why with the short chines you didn't run a 1/2" of asb, chine height all the way across... like the chine be wrapped around
Great way to end my day, better than watching the news. Thanks!
As soon as you turned the boat over Noah's Arc is the first thing that came to mind. Great video. Waiting for part 3.....
Stunning woodwork absolutely amazing
You are making amazing progress on this! We are absolutely loving watching this journey!!!
Adding a keel on the bottom would help manouvering the boat in the river. Also covering the screws on the bottom with epoxy and saw dust mix is a nice idea. Can’t wait for the next part. Good job.
A drift boat deliberately doesn’t have a keel to make it more maneuverable.
Love the video! There are two kinds of people in the world.......teachable and unteachable!!! Be the former!! How does the driveway look?! Be safe.
The driveway looks black
You could do that bottom section by yourself using laminate application methods - of course, with laminate, the glue is dry - so it could get a bit messy. But, apply the glue. Lay small dowel rods across the frame every couple feet to support the panel above the glue. Start at one end, removing rods - touching up glue - and securing panel - as you go ...
next couple of weeks? ARE YOU JOKING? I`m hooked, bring Brad back!
I am a young carpenter and I recently bought a canoe and I got so much crap for not building one. I plan to some day and this is amazing to get an idea. Looks amazing so far!! Keep it up man!
I worked as a electrical foreman for 34 years I always told my guys if you make a mistake make it through out. That way it looks fine. Pre-planned, pre-engineered always part of the "master" plan...no worries.
Combine the glasses the hair and teddy bear 👍cracked me up !
Really enjoyed the first two. Cant wait for no. three.
As your not a wimp in thinking beyond the designer you really should add a small keel. Our good buddy the Lou the Tips From a Shipwright found out quite some time ago the absolute need for one. Even a rowing dinghy needs one. 1.5" tall front to 2" tall at the stern by 1.5" thick will do it nicely.
Drifting is fun in a car. Lousy in a boat.
Bad dream intro... you're a funny guy. Thanks for posting. If I started a boat I'm sure it would never be finished.
Love the boat series. Also, your ad reads are as entertaining as your build content....I don't know how you do it!
Great job covering the screws; and especially lining up the grain of the bung with the grain of the piece! Anchors Aweigh!! DD
Love that sanding body wiggle you do
Awesome project. And dude you are hilarious. Love your videos
I'm building one very similar, but with less humor and a lot more foul language. I learned a bunch, thanks!
Thanks for sharing this amazing project! With bottom now held down, it’s time for bottoms up for the next phase! You’re the best, Hibbs! -Beaz
Thanks buddy
I want to thank you for doing this, I just turned 54, recently remarried, recovering from COVID-19, so this video series is wonderful. I bought a set of these plans in dec of 1989, and had to set them in the shelf as I was getting married , and after having children and going thru a nasty divorce, this has rekindled my desire to try this again.
That boat is insane but coming along nicely, Need part 3!
Really enjoying this series!
Hello man, just a little tip from a guy building bigger boat, just remember PS, (post scriptum), when looking aft to forward, PS, Portside on your left and Starboard on your right. Your transversal section are called Frame. You got got it right for the Transom and the Bow. Your boat looks like it will be awesome. Merci pour la vidéo, your humor his so good, but I'm 40, your grumpy style is my coworker and me lifestyle.
Soo cool watching the thoughts pop into your head, such patience in the details...
Sweet drift boat!! You must love fly fishing
Man I can't wait for boat build videos to drop. So fun to watch a unique build.
Good for fallowing the instructions. But, you can do this all without any fasteners at. Crazy right? Look at West Systems epoxy. They built their company on building boats with only epoxy. Great group of guys there.
Crazy Awesome 👏 😎
What I like most is the way you speak ,so funny and enjoyable .....thank you 😊
Great build so far! I like that fact that you are keeping it real by showing your mistakes. Can't wait for the next video!
Scarfs look good can we check on the driveway paving while the glue dries? Are the screws brass they don’t look like stainless. You are really smarter than I gave you credit for so keep building...I will see you in the next video...
Amazing job man! You are the best!
This is looking fantastic!
So entertaining...what a beautiful project. Started thinking about transporting it to different places? You building the trailer also? Can't wait for the next part.
No I did order a trailer though.
not gonna lie this is the first time seeing a boat build with ton of screws..a modern take is really interesting keep it love the way you tell what you do
That boat is looking sweet man, great craftsmanship shows with every project you do
I've loved watching this boat take shape. Thanks for sharing every step of the process (including the screw ups). It's been so fascinating to watch. This is definitely one of my favorite channels.
The most fun one can have on a YB builder's channel. Looking forward to the next installment.
Nice looking boat! Can't wait for part 3
I'm so happy I discovered your channel, a nice mix of woodworking with calming voiceover and comedy. I have a long watchlist to catch up now!
This is the only YT channel where I dont skip sponsor video parts 😂
Can't wait for the next part👌🏻
I liked the decision to trim both rails short, I was expecting just an additional 1/2" across the stern, but I prefer the short plugs. Great video!
Super cool build man keep up the good work!
The narrating of this vid is golden.
Love the narration, very entertaining!
I scrolled to find if this was mentioned, but, you learned about scarfs with the plywood. Also, on the transom(the rear blunt part)why not join the chines? and for sure, 100% approval of duplicating your mistake into what i term, a miraculous accident. Also, i'm watching because i'm about to begin this journey.
I appreciate the laughs along with the woodworking... cheers!
New favourite channel!!
Awesome video and narration! Your a good story teller!
I loved this video series. Brotherhood of Beards.
Excellent like always!!!!
Congrats!!!
How is the Hart impact driver?
Ughhh I was hoping youd finish it ... looks awesome
Entertaining and enjoyable. You certainly can make a boatbuilding series a boatload of fun.
The shape of that jig was hilarious!
I have a lot of fun watching your videos. Your little quips and gags are so entertaining!
great work moth ! I'm looking forward to part 3.
Yes! I showed my hs students the first one and they’ve been waiting for part 2!
Did they chuckle when he pulled out the falic shaped jig?
You are never alone... you have 311k of us following you
Nice job but I'm surprised you used white ash. It is great for furniture and fittings, will bend easily is strong and shock resistant but is not durable at all. As long as you glass it all in you should be fine but ash and water do not mix well. You can almost watch it rot away in front of you. The open grain and tubular cells make it soak up water like a sponge so make sure you glass it really well.
I thought so too but most wooden canoes seem to call for ash.
Many attempt humour but you actually succeed. Love it! Thanks man.
Awesome! You make me want to build a boat now. I don't know what had me laughing more the fact you called your neighbor over late night to help with your bottom or showing him your fancy "Jig" Hahahahah
So have been waiting for Pt. 2!!!!!
Looks like you're having fun there, at least we're having fun watching you having fun !! I hope you're using stainless steel or brass screws, don't want your wooden boat rusting away! The weight of all those screws should cut down the need for ballast required to balance the boat in the water. Don't put too many screws in the lifebuoy .... That should definitely float and your anchor sink!!
Until the next exciting, fun episode, stay safe there ( and start taking swimming lessons)
Very good craftsmanship you’re awesome
