Outstanding editing on this video. People don't get enough credit for such tedious work. Also using the ratchet straps was genius. Thank you, I learned something today.
12:55 Really cool effect during hammering. The frame rate matches up with your hammering, and it makes it look like the plug is moving by itself while you hammer in slow-motion.
Thanks, Ken! I agree, I love watching traditional woodworking as well. I'm a bit of a tech guy too so that sneaks into many parts of my life. Thanks again. I appreciate you checking out the channel!
Like the style - very modern and neat. Was wondering - instead of buscuit joinery or dowel at the curve joint - why didn't you inter-digitate the bench and curves. Extend the curves in a flat line by say 10cm and reduce every 2nd bench slat by 10cm - much stronger join. I am assuming this is to support body weight. Or is it a display bench? Just a thought not a criticism!
Yes, I had planned on doing that but then changed course at some point. I think if I were to make it again I would do something like that. Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching.
exactly, i would hate to see the piece fail at the biscuit joint. even a shallow tongue and groove would strengthen it, a long sliding dovetail would be difficult but very strong and could make an interesting visual additional
Nice piece of furniture but the computer generated wood cutting is not wood working. I am sure someone can make the exact same piece of furniture the old fashioned way.
Thanks, Vernon. You are right, this piece could definitely be made with hand power tools. It could even be made well with just hand tools. In the description I have a link to the former. I like tech stuff too, so a mix of computers and wood working is fun for me. Thanks for checking out the channel. I appreciate you watching.
its called a cnc or computer numerical control, you could also read a book by candle light, instead of using you computer with your electric. Doesnt mean its wrong
@@noireblack8865 it really gets my goat how dismissive people are about cnc power tools jigs, like if you use any of them the finish product quite literally made its self and u the maker had zero input. WOW, this is so satisfying to watch! Just ordered a fully loaded x carve and I dont really do this but I hope you dont mind me asking questions in the future. This deserves a sub from me man.
I built Shaun's version last year, and it was a fun build. I did like the idea of the walnut inlay. However, I was concerned about 3 biscuits holding those seams together. I would worry about it not being able to handle the applied weight.
Thanks for checking it out, Jeffrey. I haven’t bought a domino joiner yet. It’s on my wish list though. That said, with the amount of surface area and the three biscuits, I think it’s plenty strong. We’ve been using it in our house for the past several months and so far so good. Thanks again for stopping by. j-

It’s actually on its way down, the views peaked about two weeks ago at a little over 90,000 a day. I couldn’t believe it on a year old video. I actually just got a laser attachment for the X-Carve. You can carve with the router, and then switch right over and run the laser. I’ll be doing an installation video in the next couple of weeks about the laser. HI, just bought xcarve, waiting for shipping and came back to this project. I gotta say, this is one of my favorite builds on UA-cam. I'd really, really love to try it out when xcarve arrives. May I ask ... What the height of the bench is and what considerations did you make to arrive at your height? For some reason this build is so satisfying to watch, just great work, and excellent end result.
The overall length is 44 inches. The height is 17.75 inches and the depth is 13 inches. I chose the height based on a different bench that we had, seemed like a comfortable height.
