- In this video I will do a run down of the RGB-Pi OS4 and the JAMMA board. This is a project that allows the Raspberry Pi to output native res to a CRT/Arcade monitor using RGB.
The key is the OS and how it handles all of the load to pass it on to RGB. Super slim and no fuss OS with easy text menus similar to the Mister. This isn't saying one is better than the other more so that we have alternatives these days.. and also to show that RPi solutions should not be dismissed.

Technically the DE-10 Nano DOES come with a microSD card, 8GB. Enough for MiSTerFPGA itself, but ROMS would have to be on another device.
Can you boot straight into a game with no access to the menu so it can be put in an arcade for consumers to play?
What size Pi4 are you using? How is the input lag on Naomi and CPS3?

Looks like I need to add an RGB-Pi to my DIY MiSTer arcade.
It’s definitely a great add on for sure.
Don't bother contacting the RGB PI offices they have no interest whatsoever in helping you. That's my own opinion based on my own experience and interaction with them, very very unhelpful and just tell you to go to discord where again you get 0 help, again based on my experience. I even got told support was only for people with original hardware lol....That's what I thought I'd purchased haha, maybe I imagined waiting nearly a month for delivery of a scart adaptor that only works properly with mame games. Silly me, think I'll be finishing my MiSTER build thanks RGB PI guys, that works!
That sucks. For me, I have the complete opposite. The folks on discord have been helpful, especially in getting lightgun games to work. What do you mean by "support ... with original hardware"? Are you referring to the official RGB-Pi scart cable? If that's the case it makes sense only to provide support to those using the O/S with the official cable, because there is no guarantee for other setups. Love my RGB-Pi setup, works perfectly with all the systems I've thrown at it (and not only in MAME like you claim). I've always intended on moving to MiSTER after RetroPie, but from my experience RGB-Pi O/S plays and looks phenomenal on my 27" CRT that I may not even have to go to MiSTER.
@@nerdloftgaming No idea what original hardware means mate, they said that not me I'm just guessing, As for what I have I made it clear to them I have both the original RGB PI cable and used their software downloaded directly from their website as instructed. If you've had good luck using discord that's great im pleased for you but I'm stating my experience as that's all I can comment on, all the best. I found a way round my issue by changing to horizontal mode loading up a non vertical game and changing the aspect ratio in retroarch menu, then change back to vertical AR and load a vertical game, then back into retroarch and search for recent games pick the horizontal game and load it that way. Bit of a faff but hey it works 😁👍

Hi, watched all video. I have rpi4 b 8gb version and RGB-PI SCART adapter (not RGB-PI JAMMA). Could you please explain on how to overclock it to 2.2ghz? Mine is fitted inside the Argon one V2 case if that helps. Tnq!
i hate that they're not Open Source. how can you develop a Linux Based OS with too many other GPL licenced tools and keep it closed source. i cant believe that!
Excellent showcase of the RGB-PI. I really enjoyed everything you shared. Thank for taking the time to put this together. I have have Mister and a Pi3/4 collection as well. This is a great plug and play option to use before I go down the Mister to Component video rabbit hole just to make sure my setup is working. Thinking about RBG-PI into a SCARTtoCOMPONENT RetroTink box for my setup.

What games do you have on it? I'm thinking of building a mister OR pi based cabinet, but the former has not that many arcade cores: MK2, SF2 etc.

Have the same air cooling and can't overclock above 2000mhz.
What did you use for a connection to the monitor, CGA pins? I don't have an arcade cabinet, but wanted to build a mock one using a TV with 240p over component. I'm not sure if that would work?
So, I’m working on a follow up. But for that you probably want to use the normal SCART RGBPI not the Jamma one. And then you can use a SCART to Component adapter. I use one for my TV set up.
@@TheMidGeekCrisis I would, except I want this setup to solely be for light gun games. I wanted to use the Jamma composite pin to the Guncon 2. I wanted to know if that meant the video feed also had to be composite or if you were using the CGA. I want to use the CGA for clarity of picture. There are near lagless converters out there that will convert. Just not sure if that's an option when using the Guncon 2.
@@brettpelaez7161 there is I’ve used it with my convertor and you attach the gun to the green out. The convertors for component are lag less as no scaling is being done. As for CGA. You might look into the RGBpi + which is for hobbiest and allows for custom setups
@@TheMidGeekCrisis I decided to give your idea a shot with the SCART cable. I have a near lag less SCART to Component converter. I'm going to try the green out from the converter for the Guncon and see if it works. What type of connection did you use for the Guncon? Is it a signal combiner or splitter?
@@brettpelaez7161 you need a combiner. Find a pass through cable. They have them online for audio. I use those
Looks great, Was trying to set up my on my Pi 4, but it seems I have a sync issue. Did you have any issues, can not seem to stop the screen from rolling. If you have any ideas please let me know. Thanks

My RGB-Pi has seemingly disappeared off my home WiFi network list, anyone else had this issue recently? Assuming it's a friendly Windows 10 update that's changed things that before worked fine. It used to show up every time on the network without fail now nothing, WIFI is on RGB-PI menu and it says it's connected to the network.
I hadn’t seen this. What happens if you SCP right to the ip address?
Yeah try turning on screen rotation then look for your non mame roms again, they won't be there to play...trust me.
Correct. The system is set so that if you have rotation on, it won’t find the horizontal games. Devs keep the list updated
@@TheMidGeekCrisis That's great to know now , but where does it say that anywhere clearly in the RGB pi product page? Maybe I missed it in which case fair enough, but when I initially asked them about the issue they said nothing to me about it, never even suggested it as a possible thing. I'm just saying the RGB PI guy who replied to me could have just said that to me a week ago, maybe that's too much to ask but I'm not an emulation expert and some people need more clear advice and help than others.
@@Teckno77 yeah. Their support is definitely a language barrier. That’s one issue with all of this. If you speak Spanish, you won’t get such a blunt answer. But when they have to reply in English they always seem to come off brash. I asked them this early on and one of them didn’t understand. I eventually asked correctly and they understood what I meant. I’m hoping the team gets some native English speakers with some good customer support under their belt :). They really are nice and it’s an amazing project. It’s just the PR side needs some help. Like most geek run things.
@@TheAfroman Yeah don't get me wrong I'm not knocking RGB PI its bloody awesome, but yeah the dev's need to learn how to talk to people better in my opinion.
Very cool video showcasing the RGB pi. I got a mistercade setup and of course I've been wanting some more arcade games. I've tried CRT emulation with my windows PC via RetroArch and the screen tearing was horrible. This seems to work super well in comparison
I use my wii on crt but it cant handle so many arcade games. But it can handle some neo geo games and looks fine

Hi , question...in alpha 11 , sd card... arcade directory, default there are only two dir , to put the roms...MAME and FBNEO.... , I know there are also ADVMAME, MAME2003plus, and MAME2010....like just alternative for running games better... How do that? add new DIR and named?
I know you can have a mame and fbneo folder in arcade.
@@TheAfroman not real, you can have also advame, mame2010 and mame2003plus, I see on many videos, games launched with that executible...but no body show how is set the DIRs roms, (add and where) or explain how do that....so you have only 2 side where put roms...MAME or FBA.... mame is one of the last mame released..but very very slow!!! for many games, advame run mooooooore better, and also mame2003plus, sometime also mame 2010 need.

As far as I know the late MAME version is the only one you can use. It doesn't even run Kung Fu master on Pi4. No mame2003plus or advmame available. I just went back to Pi3B+ using CRT Evo as the performance is better on the emulators available that I use. Very little customisation, documentation or help with RGB-Pi. It is still in development though.
Am I right in thinking that the "classic purple" theme is basically just a port of the original rgb pi theme to OS 4? I really like how the original OS looked.

It’s not stretch more so this is on my cab and I probably had the CRT to stretched. The cab has controls to adjust the picture.
MK3 was not stretched. It's being outputted in the correct resolution on a CRT.
Sir, please help me, I downloaded the last OS from Rgb-pi, it's started but how the hell I can open the system setup menu?
Having some issues and would love to see more....I don't have it a cab yet..and have it hooked to a CHAMA (60in1) and K4900 I was using to test CRTs. I plugged. a USB keyboard in and you get ESC, F1, ENTER, directional keyboard, and you can navigate...on their virtual keyboard there is an END, which took me a while to figure out in the mirror of my CRT bench. Loaded a rom but don't see it and says no system. Thinking cores are missing. Also would like to know what collection is the Classic Arcade from..ie ROMset
PS was thinking I was having initial sync uses until I reseated the GPIO and JAMMA cable. my CRT connection was from another GO7 CRT where it was on the negative connector with a jump-over from Pin2&3

Could I please pay you to build me a unit, I am a bit overwhelmed with the whole process but own a jamma arcade with a trash pandoras box. I would like to throw this unit in to replace it. I literally started tearing up when i saw you boot up MVC 2 and it played so smoothly. If not could you please point me in the right direction, Also can Killer instinct and tekken 1-3 arcade run on this setup smoothly? Thank you!
My next video will be a step by step on building this. It’s super easy. I promise. Also.. sadly KI and the way it’s emulated really needs even more power. X86 can run it. But the way memory is handled on mame with Arm it’s just awful.

Surely the rgberry is the better solution as it doesn't require its own os and works with everything. It's also cheaper.
The biggest issue is video timing and native res. The OS works flawless especially for games with weird timings. Things like MK run at 54hz and many normal CRTs can’t handle the weird refresh rates. Again. It’s multiple options.
@@TheMidGeekCrisis that's nice to know. I live in a 15khz world, so it's important to get there, but we all have different requirements. It's good to know that this may work where the rgberry may not and vice versa, I hadn't thought about that.
The custom os of rgbpi is one of the best parts of it.
the only issue I have with Rpi is the input lag.

It's one of the reasons I am still undecided on what to use inside the cabinet I'm building.
I let play on my RGB-Pi set on raspberry pi 4 some folks that are doing speedrunnig. They said that they would never tell it's an emulation if I didn't tell them.

MiSTer is not hardware emulation, its hardware reimplementation. Just like every single revision of the snes motherboard for example , made by nintendo itself, is a slightly different reimplementation of the same hardware. If you are gonna call MiSTer cores buggy, hardware emulation that differ from the original hardware, you should apply that label to every single console revision rather than the first batch, on every single console, which is silly IMO.
